A Sudanese man has been forced to take a goat as his "wife", after he was caught having sex with the animal.
The goat's owner, Mr Alifi, said he surprised the man with his goat and took him to a council of elders.
They ordered the man, Mr Tombe, to pay a dowry of 15,000 Sudanese dinars ($50) to Mr Alifi.
"We have given him the goat, and as far as we know they are still together," Mr Alifi said.
Mr Alifi, Hai Malakal in Upper Nile State, told the Juba Post newspaper that he heard a loud noise around midnight on 13 February and immediately rushed outside to find Mr Tombe with his goat.
"When I asked him: 'What are you doing there?', he fell off the back of the goat, so I captured and tied him up".
Mr Alifi then called elders to decide how to deal with the case.
"They said I should not take him to the police, but rather let him pay a dowry for my goat because he used it as his wife," Mr Alifi told the newspaper.

Next headline :
man ritually slaughters wife and eats her with his family.
Pretty sure that got posted a while back. The article was from February.
Yeah, it was posted way back when. Did he refuse to marry the goat, though? What a wimp.

And I thought I had a reputation for gravitas. ~:mecry:
As others have noted, it was posted a while back. For some reason it has hit the 'Most Emailed' list at the Beeb again.

Breaking news:
Goat to divorce her man-husband.
In a statement 'Nellie' says that she has consulted a solicitor and lodged divorce papers with the court.
"It's the end of our marriage" said a tearful 'Nellie', "I tried and tried to make it work but I can no longer take the emotional abuse from Derek" (her husband), "It was bad enough when he used to compare me to Jade Goody, but when I caught him making love to a melon, it was the final straw".
A spokesman for Derek solicitors declined to comment on these developments, except to add. "Our client has today received a divorce petition for unreasonable behaviour and does not intend to contest it".
The whereabouts of Derek and his new squeeze 'Honeydew' were unclear last night.

Well, it's not easy to keep up with the serious issues of the day here without being overwhelmed by all the Middle East Politics and Theological Philosophy spam.

Yes, I thought this thread had been dug up until I read the date. It was posted when it was first in the news, methinks.

It beats marrying a hedgehog...
In such a country/culture where it may be difficult to get your leg over, due to religious restrictions, I see a flourishing trade in "vice goats" emerging...
