but is Caesar, Pompey, Crassus or Sulla, or Marius or kato
or any of the famous characters in EB?
(i havnt got to around 50BC yet)

please tell me Caesar is in it!!

If they are alive when the game starts, yes they are in it. Which means a big no to all of those but Cato.

We do not spawn historical characters into the game unless they were alive in 272. MTC is just a random name that appears, but we certainly do not spawn any famous characters, that would be against what we are trying to do, recreating history, not copying it.

For generals, that is. People who were not really characters we do give out as ancillaries. Philosophers, rhetoricians, etc. We think of that as a way to educate folks and I doubt we would ever think seriously about dumping them.

I hope not, the bonuses Archimedes has been giving to Hamalcar have been great, I'd hate not to get him in the next versions.

Because Hannibal is -25 years old at the start of the game.

could it not be possible to adopt a certain character when they are born in history?

you say its all about education and having some one like Hannibal and many of the other characters is not needed, you say its not what you're trying to do

It's no big deal, but we have made the decision that we will not "script" historical generals' appearance. Just a choice we have made.

One thing about names some folks don't realize - we can't have two characters have the same name in descr_strat.txt (i.e., at the game's start), so you will notice Theodotos and Diodotos (a father and son) for Baktria. They really share the same name, but these are two alternative renderings of that name, so we cheat and get around the problem that way.

Do people read the biography trait of every character at the start of the game? Your new Hamalcar is the Barcid one, the other one is an older Hamalcar.

The thing I asked was to give Hamalcar Barca a bonus to make him super fertile and that he can marries fast so we at least (with good luck) can represent his 4 sons and 2 daughters.

I read the biographys, in 0.8 but they were the same, and both had the same name : Hamalcar (stationed in Sicily) and his not jet adult son was Hamalcar as well. The biography was the same after the second came of age, that was what confused me. (don't mind the wrong speling).

I find myself wishing I could change the names of certain characters, every once in a while, or even just assign them a title like "the lunatic". ;)

Is the Romani tendancy to produce daughters an intentional way of showing Republican politics rather than a royal family? (i.e. most new generals are married in)

Three times now I've been upset by the Scipiones leaving no male heirs. Now history is being written by many, many Cottas.

Not a complaint, it's a good way of doing things. Is there a way of making some names more likely? I'd prefer the usual run of Gaius, Cnaeus, Secundus etc and a healthy representation by major Roman families if I can get them.
