Do these become available when you disband alot of infantry at different points of the map? Look at the ratings and for 700f :dizzy2:

I think theres more to it than that. I've never seen them before. They appear to be a bugged too. When you click on them they say "Heavy Cavalry" and when taunting they have a funny british accent and say things like "For the King" and "England will be victorious!". Quite funny considering I'm the scottish :laugh4:

No, the free company merc units and other mercs become available at certain dates in the campaign, and other merc units become unavailable. Their voice is bugged though.

They are available between 1338 and 1470.

See the descr_mercenaries.txt file in the campaign folder...

I found the German knights to be the worst deal of those late period mercs. Cost a lot to buy and upkeep and have stats that are worse than some of the early knights (only 8 attack...). Also have poor morale.

Basically a DEK/VHI clone.

Free Company MAA are not as good as your own heavy infantry, but better than any other merc infantry unit available at that time. Free Company Longbowmen are simply great. It's the only way for most nations to get archers with stakes. I always grab all the Free Company Longbows I can find (if I'm not playing England or the Turks).

Well, it all depends who you are. Free company are great for those who cannot build good two-handers, just as merc spearmen are great for the english and crossbowmen for the danes...

However, all merc units are great when they are bought to bolster an army on the march...

I like to use mercs as the first wave when assaulting walls...
If they can take the city/castle all alone, it's even better.:2thumbsup:

Dear Gang:

Good afternoon from Canada!! I hope this finds you and yours well.

One more thought before putting this topic to bed? I saw something new last news, too. It was a scroll for the Cog, the little workhorse warship. It had a lovely illustration of the ship, too.

Just thought I'd share.

Live long and prosper, take care and thank you kindly!!!

Sincerely yours always,

Indy.
