Who else plays it? I have recently gotten out of a bad alliance and started a new one, aptly named the Eastern Legion Empire. I'm currently looking for members and graphic artists to help me set it up.

I heard that it got hacked by 4chan. True?

Kekvit Irae

More or less. Not 4chan specifically, but members of the /b/ alliance.

It seems that I am not able to register at this point. Once I am able to, I will join your alliance though.

Have you considered an alliance with the RTR forum? They have a team I believe.

Kekvit Irae

Eastern Legion Empire will be a peaceful alliance, refusing to take part in MDPs or MAPs. However, I will readily accept a NAP with them. :loveg:

It looks like fun, but I still don't have my new PC yet. [sigh] Three weeks seems so far away right now.... ~:mecry:

Well if you're still interested, Kek, I'd like to join when I'm up and running again.

It was a decision long in the making. The Legion grew more from "hey, we'll protect you!" to "hey, you're a traitor if you don't help us and we'll hunt you down!". Not the kind of alliance I want to be in. Then GWIII broke out, and that solidified my choice to leave when Legion first-striked FAN. If you want to know more about why this was a bad idea, read the alternative history short-story "Billy Mitchell's Overt Act." It's a great read, and sounds strangely familiar in CN. :tongueg:

NPO attacked GATO, activating the Mutual Defense Pact by The Legion, Legion attacked FAN, ODN attacked GOONS, and then all hell broke loose when /b/ posted child porn on the message boards and went nuclear. This war reaches all sorts of epicness. :smash:

True, except that I visit the Org on my work computer. While they don't particularly mind me visiting message boards, I'm pretty sure they *would* take exception to me playing web-based games. (In fact, I think they block such sites.) ~;)

That said, do you have any idea when CN will be open for registration again? I ask because I may have my new PC as early as this weekend (although probably not til next weekend). :smash:

Unfortunately, no. Many, including myself, believe new registration was taken offline due to the Third Great War. Now that GATO has surrendered and the war is over, hopefully new registration will open again.

For the uninitiated, there are two aspects of CN. The official game part of it, which is fairly standard, manage your nation, blah blah blah. And then there is the alliance politics, which are ridiculous and drama-prone. It can be fun, but if you aren't careful you'll wind up with your nation in ruins over a misplaced comment...

GATOer here, since the day i joined CN. We got mauled pretty bad but at least the war helped us trim down the fat. Many people are leaving because of the surrender terms, others because of the excess (even by CN standards) drama. Some of us also made a colony in LunarWars (unimaginatively called...GATO :P) and most of the people in LW (in general) are coming from CN. I find it is more interesting than CN.

The shirley massacre was one of darkest days in CN history. At my school alot of people played CN during lunch and I was one of them, I had a semi-decent nation within Legion but I was foolish, my friend told me to put a thread on the the forum that implied that Ivan Moldavi was gay, my friend told me that nothing would happen but he was wrong, the results were devestating.
My nation was deleted along with every other nation at school(about 20), the only surviving nation was the Kingdom of the Isles.

Kekvit Irae

Oh wow...kekvit, you have a strong nation. I take it that your alliance would be neutral then? If you want, you can send a diplomat over at the GATO forums here: http://z10.invisionfree.com/GATO and apply for a consulate.

It took me almost a year of playing and several donations to get where I am. It helps that my nation resources (gems and sugar) accurately emulates the kind of nation I want: economical powerhouse. Fast food, fine jewelry, and affluent population FTW!
And yes, my alliance is neutral, with no interest in wars or mutual defense pacts. It's basically a haven for people who want to watch their nation grow without seeing all their hard work go down the toilet, like what happened to most in GWIII.

I figured as much, but I didn't want to assume anything. ~;p So any general recommendations for creating my nation (location, ethnicity, government type, etc.)?

Kekvit Irae
04-19-2007, 02:32
Location and ethnicity does not matter what-so-ever. Pick a spot on the world you like. You can even put it on water if you want. CN used to be set that you could only attack someone if they were within 500 miles of you. Now that the restrictions have gone away, there's no point in "strategic placement". Ethnicity is the same; totally cosmetic, but can be changed whenever you want.

Government and religion, however, do have an effect on the game. If you choose the same religion that the majority of your population wants to worship, you'll get a +1 Happiness bonus (happier citizens = more income). Same thing with Government Type, but GT has additional bonuses depending on what type you set. Overall, I prefer Monarchy, despite whatever my population wants. The chart for all the effects are here: http://s15.invisionfree.com/Cyber_Nations/index.php?showtopic=17
As you can see, Monarchy gives a +1 Happiness bonus (more income), and reduces the cost of buying Infrastructure (more citizens) by -5%. If your people demand Monarchy, you'll get an addition +1 Happiness on top of that.

A very useful thread for new players is here: http://z15.invisionfree.com/Cyber_Nations/index.php?showtopic=6170

Well I just created my nation, the Kalgat Union, and have applied for membership in the ELE.

I appear to have messed up already, however, as I chose my team color to be black. I wasn't aware of -- indeed, I'm not sure that I fully grasp even now -- the significance of one's team color. :wall:

Kekvit Irae
04-19-2007, 05:25
You can change your Team Color by going into Edit My Nation. Having a trade agreement with someone of the same color as you grants both people a +1 Happiness bonus.

Martok
04-19-2007, 06:11
Thanks Kek. I'm all covered in purple-y goodness now.

Kekvit Irae
04-19-2007, 09:31
You might also want to consider sending some trade proposals. Take a look at your resources, and then take a look at the bonus resources available ( http://z15.invisionfree.com/Cyber_Nations/index.php?showtopic=31 ) and figure out what you need to get those. I, personally, prefer to go full financial, so I've delved heavily into getting fine jewelry (gems, gold, silver, coal), and affluent population (fine jewelry, fish, furs wine). Your tastes may vary, depends on how you build your nation. Many of the top players go for construction (lumber, iron, marble, aluminum) right off the bat and build their nations around it.
To easily see what other people have, go down to the bottom of your nation page and type in (for example) "purple fish gold" in the Search: Everything. Click on the green check mark on any nation you find in the search, so long as they have trade slots open. At the moment, you can only trade with four people at a time. Once you get a harbor (and you should), you can increase this by one.

Martok
04-20-2007, 08:03
I got a quick question for you CN players....

I received the following message from [name omitted]:

"Thanks for the trade.. If you promise to keep the agreement for at least 3 months I will send you 50 k"

I should probably mention that I accepted a trade offer from this gentleman yesterday (I have wine & oil, he has water & uranium). So is this new offer from him a reasonably good deal, or is it an attempt to hoodwink me? :inquisitive:

Alexander the Pretty Good
04-20-2007, 08:32
If you need the resources, that's great - basically free money to keep what you already want. However, uranium is a terrible resource for a developing nation, while water is decent.

CountArach
04-20-2007, 08:33
I would go for it, unless you need a particular resource he sin't giving you. Right now he is giving you uranium though, so that isn't too bad :P.

Kekvit Irae
04-20-2007, 08:53
Uranium is great for income if you set your My Government Position to "Our government will not sign the treaty because our nation believes in the use of nuclear technology to build power plants, however we do not promote the use of nuclear technology for weapons of mass destruction."
You won't be able to buy nukes, but you'll get the most out of your uranium. Then again, you wont be able to buy nukes for a very, very long time.

I am in Greenland Republic alliance there.

For the ones who never played: It's an online simulation game where you create a nation, develop infrastructure and technology, trade and even war with other nations. You can join alliance or be without it, but if your affilation is set to ''none'' you're an easy target for everybody.
The game is really intresting and it has almost 40,000 players.
