View Full Version : Using the launcher from 1.2 for mods?

Has anyone been able to successfully run a campaign mod using the launcher with changes to textures. If so, how?

I have been driving myself silly over here (and not the good kind of silly :dizzy2: ) trying to figure out what is going on... I can launch my mods, but I am only able to play custom battles (in which all of my new textures work fine). When I lauch a campaign, however, the game can't seem to find any of the modded textures and crashes while loading. :wall:

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Did it work OK in your mod folder prior to using the launcher? I haven't used the launcher yet (as it required editing the registry and I decided I couldn't see any point in that).

However I never had any issues with just using textures in the mod folder (assuming you are talking about ground type textures use din the campaign map).

I didn't use a mod folder before the launcher.

I am talking about Strat_map model textures for units like Diplomats, Assassins, etc. Banner symbols...and unit textures on the battlemap.

OK sorry. I thought you were talking about textures on the stratmap.

I've only used the mod folder set up and as far as the models_strat changes go they don't get picked up under 1.2 from within a mod folder (at least the banners don't and I guess the same for the others).

However for the textures in the units_models folder this now picks up from the mod folder so I would of guessed they should pick up OK with the launcher.

I know this isn't explicitly about the launcher but as I understood it the launcher just set up a means so people could change their registry as an improvement over using .cfg files and shortcuts/bat files.

Thanks...

For some reason, I thought they sorted this stuff out for 1.2. So, theoretically, I just place all of the changes in the main folder and redirect the filepaths as necessary?

...and setting up the registry for the launcher is very easy...

There shouldn't be too much redirecting as far as models_strat goes as it should always look there with the (io first option)

The change for 1.2 was tied to the units_folders. Guess they forgot about the strat map items or thought they were less critical.

Yes alpaca told me what to do on the registry but I couldn't see the point on it if it gave you the same results. I've always been wary about changing registries and if it gives the same result it seems a dangerous way to ask people to change that as a 'safer/easier' option to a .cfg file and shortcut/bat file to call it (particularly as alpaca has now shown how to call up campaigns from within the menu's now).

Where?

As for your problem:
You may have to redirect the links to the textures. For example models_strat/textures/ambasador_denmark.tga would become ../mod/data/models_strat/textures/ambasador_denmark.tga

Thanks, but I have tried that and it doesn't work.
