Venus Ramey (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070421/ap_on_re_us/brave_beauty_queen)
Fortunately the police arrived before she got really mad.
She had to balance on her walker as she pulled out a snub-nosed .38-caliber handgun.:laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4: They are going to dread answering their cellmates question, "So, what are you in for?"

Good to see that she is taking responsibility for her own safety. There is to much of the "Hide in the corner and call the police!" mentality out there, it disgusts me.

are you kidding me?
this woman is 82 years old!!!!
at 82 I think you shouldn´t be able to drive a car....let´s not even talk about carrying around a gun

An 82 yearold is more dangerous with a car than a gun, full stop.

It sounds like she knows her way around a gun pretty well. If she can shoot out a vehicles tires and keep intruders at bay long enough for the police to arrive, I'd trust this 82-year-old woman with a gun over myself. Various gun advocates here have emphasized the importance of training and practice. I suspect Miss Ramey keeps her skills polished.

Since this is turning into a gun thread anyway:
It's hardly reasonable to expect the police to patrol the country areas of the US, so having a gun on a farm to protect yourself actually makes sense.
Now guns in the city, that's another issue.

Police come after a crime is committed. They draw chalk lines around bodies...some times they arrive while the crime is in progress but not usually...And perps don't like to be in areas where people tend to fight back...

Lars makes a good point about cars.
Also, I was shooting at a steel target competition today and one old fellow (at least 60 I'd wager) was using a .38 revolver and I think he did better than most of the guys there (guys who spend 700+ dollars on one handgun before they spend more to fine tune the trigger, and have specialized belts and holsters for this sort of competition).
So don't knock old people.

Lars makes a good point about cars.
I have been in favour of re-testing older drivers ever since, whilst I was on a trip with my grandfather, he missed an exit on a motorway roundabout and decided, rather than going around again, to halt the car and reverse, with cars flying past us at ninety miles an hour.
It was one of the most terrifying moments of my life. I honestly thought I was going to die.

Almost as good as the granny shooting the criminal in her closet. What a priceless 911 call!
Cars vs. Guns. Hmmm...

You shouln't lose your freedom when you become a senior citizen... for crying out this is the generation that fought ww2 for us. Show a little respect.
Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
Ben Franklin
And it still rings true today.

It doesnt take a genius to figure that out. Trade something essential for a little something temporary? Thats lunacy in almost any case you can descirbe.
How about "Give me Liberty or give me death" ?
Without liberty you have no security. Unless your in jail of course . Then you have lots of security and little liberty.
