View Full Version : Observation - Ancillary: DREAD Knight !
Hi All !
I got this ancillary in my Danish campaign a while back. It was a great campaign. I held the 3 main Scandinavian provinces for the duration of the game fighting much larger and reasonably challenging enemies. I got this ancillary quite early in game though. Got the Dread Knight for the first time in this campaign.
Has anyone seen this ancillary regularly ?

SALUTE !
Ive gotten it a couple of times but i cant say if its just a random chance for any dread general or if it has some other kind of trigger :/ (or can you look that up in some file perhaps?)

IIRC it's triggered by generals who already have the Berserker trait, which is gained in battle fairly rarely (or at birth, especially for the Danes who have a bonus trigger for it)
You get it when attacking with at max even odds and killing at least two thirds of the enemy army, and the battle has to be won under participation of your general.
Of course you mustn't have any chivalry traits, either
Here's the code for you kobal:
;------------------------------------------
Trigger knight_dread_vnv_trigger
WhenToTest PostBattle
Condition WasAttacker
and IsGeneral
and WonBattle
and GeneralFoughtInCombat
and BattleOdds < 1.2
and PercentageEnemyKilled > 66
and not Trait BattleChivalry > 0
and not Trait StrategyChivalry > 0
AcquireAncillary knight_dread chance 25
By the way, when I first got him I thought "WTF? Is this HoMM 3 or what?"
Thanks for the code. LOL ! Yeah it is funny.

Hmm. I was wrong. How disconcerting.
Or at least it would be, if it didn't happen about 12 times a day :p.
And don't you knock HoMM 3, you filthy little munchkin ! It remains the greatest HoMM that ever was, and ever will be. So sayeth the wiseman Me.
(Now, me, I instantly thought "How cool ! I got the Black Knight ! None shall pass !", but that may be because I first got him after a bridge battle :} )
HAHAHHAA !!!! Kobal you got a great sense of humor ! I've also noticed some Muslim ancillary portraits while browsing the image files, but these don't seem to be active. For example there are knights for Muslim characters, different from the Christian knights. There are also some Sufi looking portraits and a couple of women.

I haven't gotten this very often but I do remember getting it at least once. It is a cool retinue add-on in my opinion, just makes the general sound tough.

I would much rather be able to have a Dread Pirate, preferably with the ability to kill the Sicilians without actually ever doing battle with them.

[cue The Princess Bride references] :laugh4:
But back to topic: Any idea exactly how the Berserker trait affects the chances of getting the Dread Knight? I don't quite understand how/why they would be linked. :inquisitive:

It's like I said : I was wrong. Mistaken. Caught in flagrante delicto of talking straight out of my arse, or rather out of a hazy recollection of my work on the 1.0 traits.
I will now commit seppuku with a wooden spoon to redeem the honour of my clan.

i got a general with a berserker ancilliary does that make any difference?
Only difference is that more dreaded people in one bunch, the merrier ^^
He he, i like this ancilary too. And dont blame Kobal, cause 2/3 times i getting Dread Knight together with Berserker after 1 battle. Also, when i played Egypt i got Dread Knight as muslim.
Now i playing French. 6-charm princesses FTW !!! Marry them with your gens and you get Useful Wife, Admirable Wife and Fair Wife traits, Royal Ties trait. Not bad ! LoL. Go, French !

Aye scurrrvy dog! And he'll only appear near the Caribbean Isles! And we'll call him Captain Jack Sparrow :pirate2:
@Zaher: Best I got yet was a 8 Charm Danish princess. I seriously only made an alliance with them to get that woman into my family. And I sacrificed my previous faction heir for it (poor wretch was already married - well, can't be helped I guess)

Not even a foreign fruitcake? "She"'s a fairly common ancillary.
I had it...
but did any one have the black stallion ancillary
If you build a spy or assassin in a settlement with a race track you should get the black stallion. Good news: it's transferable!

So we can give it to other agents? Interesting

oh bugger and i didnt even try to trnasfer it
Oh... and I found this:
Trigger sitting_around_castle_with_stables_dread
WhenToTest CharacterTurnEnd
Condition IsGeneral
and EndedInSettlement
and RemainingMPPercentage = 100
and SettlementBuildingExists >= knights_stables
and Attribute Chivalry < -4
AcquireAncillary black_stallion chance 4
A Black horse for a black sole :laugh4:
The next trigger also exists for spy and is the other 100% chance - trigger besides the racetrack:
Trigger assassininit12
WhenToTest AgentCreated
Condition AgentType = assassin
and SettlementBuildingExists >= stables
AcquireAncillary black_stallion chance 100
Suddenly building agents in a castle without the proper guild is not a totally wasted skill point anymore...
All transferable ancilliaries are:
academic_advisor
alchemist
apothecary
assassins_apprentice
bard
black_stallion
bodyguard
caravan_driver
translator
treasurer
trusty_steed
tutor
+ all the relics

Except that it's a sham : you can't train assassins in castles :} (but the triggers also exists for racetrack)
Good tip ! Actually, you can train assassins in castles.
Forgot what building it was that trains them but I was doing it all the time from Oslo in a Danish campaign.

what does that mean i've only ever seen my spies getting the stallion never an assasin nor a general
can the horse be transfered from a spy to a general?
now i remember what it was i wanted to test out last night lol i knew i was forgetting something
Yeap, you can transfer the horse from your assassin or spy to your general (or anyone else).

Well I'll be buggered with a tire iron - you're right, castle academia allows training both spies and assassins. I never realized that :/
But ... hmm... OK, I got it : that doesn't count because the Assassin Guild is city only, and only 4 factions have access to castle academia anyway. So there ! :clown:

It sooooooo counts, and I blame you for it.

hear hear! Although HOMMV wasn't bad.

erm i'm having a bit of trouble transfering the horse.
matbe the way im doing it is wrong so i'll explain
both spy and general ae in same cityi open the spys information and drag the horse onto the generals portrait
this doesnt work so am doing something wrong or is ancilliary ransfers between generals and spy not allowed?
and what is HoMM??

Maybe only transfers to other agents ? I must say I never tried transferring ancils myself. It was lame-ish back in RTW anyway.
And HoMM is Heroes of Might & Magic, one of the Great Elders in my personnal pantheon. Pangameon. Whatever.
Unfortunately, you can only transfer to another agent. From spy to spy, from assassin to assassin. Not even spy <-> assassin works :(

right cheers guys
kobal i agree the rtw system was abit lame so easy to maintain good generals it was the ancil that were imporatant not the general. i'm glad its been reduced.
even with this limited system we could keep this horse alive forever i suppose lol
isnt HoMM a RTS? i think i got it with my grphics card or something, still in packing though. should i try it?

HoMM is so-called card-RPG game , and its a classic game of this genre. Most actual are HoMM 4 and 5. " Eatherlords" and " Eatherlords 2 " are even better example of this stile. Both where made in Russia, and remaining best Russian games of all times.

Nope! Heroes of Might and Magic is a really good turn based strategy game, with quite a large following. It often gets confused with the similarly named Might and Magic which I think did have some real-time elements to it but doesn't seem as popular.
Its doubly confusing because both games are now owned by UBI soft and the two titles now frequently share the same websites.

it's a turn based fantasy strategy game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heroes_of_Might_and_Magic_III)with turn based battles, and RPG elements as well because your "heroes" (read : generals) gain XP, get specific skills and capacities and magic items and so on which gives them strengths in this field or that.
The graphics are a bit dated but still pleasing to the eye, and the sheer mass of maps and scenarios coupled with the diversity of the different "factions" and the number of winning strategies you can devellop give it a really, really long life.
OK, so I'm hooked on it worse than I was on the first Civ game. So sue me :)
