When Romans get their Polybian reform , they will show up in your barracks.Don't remember which MIC lvl though 3 or 4, since i can recruit them in Athens(lvl II gov).
Thats for Maks.

No, they're tied to the vanilla marian's aren't they? And anyway, I was asking about they're historical introduction date, note the ingame date.

Really? I got them around 240. Sadly, their stats don't represent the better armour they have compared to their predecessors. And Argyraspidai either. But their are tough though.

Thats a bug that changes in the next version, iirc, or change it yourself.

What file do I have to open, what lines to change?

Yeah, for some reason they didn't show up before that.So i assumed that they are tied to Polybian reform somehow(didn't bother to browse thru script files).

I had one more Maks campaign before that till around 230BC (ended up with permanent CTD), and they didn't showed up in there either.

Is there a lot of termoil in Italia in your campaigns, cause if there is that could be what's preventing a city from reaching huge and triggring the Marian reforms.

The red 10, represents the current armour value, change it to whatever you want, I would recommend 13 or 14.

The Epikletoi Hoplitai and Basilikon Agema get an armour value of 12 out of the basically same helmet-mail-and-greaves getup, if you want a yardstick.

The basalikon have 14, don't they, (or was that a diferent build)?

My EDU says 12 - and I'm positive I'm looking at the vanilla 081aV2 backup.

The Chae... Chao... Chaeo... Epirus elite dudes have 14 though. Can't quite tell what exact kind of body armour they're wearing from the UI pic.

Pharnakes

I've always wondered about that as well, it looks to me as if they wear a linothorax covered in large, rectangular iron plates, so they're almost like cataphracts.

Watchman

Sounds like some heavy-duty scale derivative, that. The Illyrioi Thorakitai are mentioned to be wearing lamellar so I wondered if the Chaeonians did too, but I guess not.

Pharnakes
06-06-2007, 01:55
Yeah, what impreses me is the shear size of the plates, i would say 6" by 4" at least, whilst most scale was more like 1" or 2" squared, was it not?

Something that is sort of like this here armor...

...seems like lamellar over a standard linothorax. :book:

Yeah, it should be 12. When we fix the stats that will be what it is.

So the armour the chawhatists wore was made of large plates, that are in turn made of lots of smaller plates?

How were the large plates manufacture, ie. how were the small plates attached to each other?

If it's lamellar, by lacing. Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamellar_armour) covers the basics passably. Quick googling also turned up this interesting site (http://www.geocities.com/normlaw/page6.html), which by and large seems to have a decent idea of what it's talking about. Its focus is really on a rather different timespan and region, but as the basic design of lamellar didn't really change over millenia (not counting modifications like the Byzantine klibanion (http://www.levantia.com.au/military/KKK.html)) that's not really an issue.

Yeah, I had the same idea for both Hysteroi and Argyraspidai.~:) Also, I changed the default formation depth to 8, so I don't have to do it manually before each battle (I think they perform better in a deeper formation).
