Greetings Europa Barbarorum fans.

https://img517.imageshack.us/img517/8219/10announcementkw5editgs0.gif

The day is here. EB v1.0 is released!!
It took time, but it is done. Here are years of sweat, tears, torn hair, love and passion in one big digital build. We think it is worth the wait. For many, EB has been a central part of their lives and much time has been poured into this labor of love, as we often call it. For many of us it feels a bit strange that we're finally here. 1.0 is made. Remember people, we aren't a game studio. We know many fans are aware of our situation, yet we should emphasize that working on the EB project is a hobby to us and something we do on our free time. Which means that we don't have a fixed number of hours each day for EB. RL issues, computer problems and girlfriends all demand time so the work on EB can ebb and flow.
The 1.0 release is packed full of content. In fact 22,000 files have been modified or added in EB 1.0!!
Although our EB work process has peaks and valleys, we have continuously worked to improve the mod, and we hope that our efforts at rooting out bugs and inconsistencies will enhance your game experience. Now we will let you get to it. Instructions on downloading and installing as well as Download links will follow and further down is a list of the major additions and changes to Europa Barbarorum.
And please visit our website which has received an update to reflect v1.0.
And do not worry. There will be future versions for EB1.

Many people outside EB deserve a big "Thank You!" for helping us out. Thanks to Dol Guldur for helping us get more files working within the EB modfolder. Thanks to drak10687 for helping us getting the Oppida walls into 1.0. A massive Thank you to Kailith who made the walls. Also thanks to I Am Herenow for his suggestions regarding the website. And lastly thanks to our betatesters for helping us iron out bugs and come with suggestions who are Fondor Yards, Thaatu, Warmaster Horus, Wolfman25, Megas Pyrrhos, Al-Masri, Birka Viking, Brightblade, Chirurgeon, Gazius, Ice, mcantu, Taliferno, TheErrant.

We would like to thank Simon O'Dwyer and Maria Cullen O'Dwyer of Prehistoric Music Ireland (prehistoricmusic.com) for graciously allowing us to use some of their work on Bronze and Iron Age Celtic music in the mod. Their work in educating the public in general and primary/secondary schools in particular on the authentic history of Celtic music is something we very much respect.

We would also like to thank Morgan Casey (morgancasey.com) and Nick Wylie (nickwylie.com) for working with the mod team to create our huge soundtrack. They have since moved on to other projects but their work is still an extremely vital part of the mod and should be recognized again.

We would like to thank all former members whose work is a part of EB, but a few guys in particular made massive contributions and need special recognition: Angadil, Ranika, Malrubius, sharrukin, and Prometheus. Wherever you guys are, thanks again!

Download & Installation

A complete list of mirrors can be found on our website's Download section (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/downloads_mod.html). We strongly recommend people to use BitTorrent or ED2K to download EB to conserve bandwidth, but also as torrent provides better transfer speeds.

Installation

First make sure you have a clean RTW 1.5 installation on your computer. This is to make absolutely certain old files or directories won't cause problems for the EB 1.0 installation.

Double-click the EBv10.exe file and follow the instructions on screen.
The installation process gives you the option to install a "modesty patch", which adds loincloths to the naked units. This is NOT recommended, and is provided purely as a service to those who must appease parents, and for anyone who is uncomfortable with pixelated genitalia.
WARNING: This will overwrite all naked warrior units in your build!!

If you encounter any problems please use the Bugs & Tech forum (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=127) and report any errors there instead of in this thread.

----------

There are several quick fixes available here:
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=93820
Install the permenant ones only, after you have installed EB v1.0.

New Features

Big Pahlava Changes:
Pahlava now begins the game indistinguishable from a nomadic faction, to more accurately depict their historical situation at the start of our game. The player may play out the game continuing as a nomad faction if they like. However, a set of "reforms" is possible in the cities of the old Persian Empire, where Persian and Hellenic influence historically altered the nature of the Parthians. Accordingly, it is possible for the Parthians to build up their towns and gain access to a "Reformed Parthian Government", which in turn allows them to construct most of the buildings they used in previous builds.

Swêbōz evolution 1.0:

-Refinement of Proto-Germanic language applied to nearly every aspect possible.

-Tons of NEW Traits, such as Season-specific traits, Swêbōz tribal Ethnicities, Harjanaz election and dismissal system, redefined Noble system (more representative of EB timeline), Hamarammaz ("Shape-strong" : thinks he can transform into an animal during battle)

-NEW Ancillaries, such as the Thuliz (seen in Unferth character in BEOWULF: ritual speaker, challenger of oaths) and Spehōkwenōn ("Prophecy-woman")

-NEW Swêbōz Military Reform which takes place during the same later period which brought about the Cimbri/Teutons, representing a change from "Tribal" structured ritual warfare to larger "Warbands" of conquest. This reform is triggered and characterized by increased access to metallurgical centers and wealth, which for the Player means recruitable Units with Heavy armor (mail) and weapons otherwise unavailable, including a new Heavy/Companion Cavalry.

-Reconceptualized Swêbōz Unit roster based no longer on a "(weapon)-men" name formula, but now more historically oriented on prestige / social position and historical tactics on the battlefield. Cultural styles and art were added to give flavor to the certainly active if less urban or well known culture of the Germanic peoples. New gear for the ancient Germanics has been added, based closely on new studies, research, and evidence. Also includes new Regional Units and greater unit variety.

Hayasdan Changes:
In addition to receiving a few new units, albeit regional, Hayasdan can also enact a few reforms if the conditions are met that will transform it from a mountain kingdom into a new 'Persian Successor Empire', or in other words, an Armenian variant of the old Achaemenid Empire led by the Orontid dynasty.

Oppida Walls:
Kailith has over months been working on making Oppida walls for the barbarian factions. And thanks to drak10687 we managed to get them working in EB. The Oppida really adds a big immersion when sieging barbarian towns and coupled with the barbarian music we have, should hopefully make your battles all the more barbaric. A big thanks again to both these two.

Roman Provincial Governor System:
Now when your Roman armies conquer a certain set of territories, the Senate will create a Provincia of those territories, making your General the Provincial Governor. For example, the Province of Sicily, or Provinciae Sicilia. The Governor receives a special ancillary denoting him as Governor and describing his new territory, and he will receive a trait assigning him special bonuses. If he leaves his province before his year-long term is up, he will lose his bonuses, having given up his title, which you can reassign to someone else if you choose. There are three types of Governors; Propraetors, Proconsuls, and Rectors. If you specifically want a Proconsul, for instance, make sure you send a character with the "Consular" trait to that province, and you will see him become Proconsul of said province.

Seleukid Satrapies:
Your generals can now obtain Satrap titles if they have the necessary influence and connections at court, or in other words, traits. Send your general to Ekbatana and he will become Satrap of Media. Likewise if your generals are in Susa, Persepolis or Hekatompylos, they will become satraps of those regions, while any general in the Seleukid holdings of Asia Minor could gain the title Epistrategos. And should you expand the Seleukid kingdom your generals can be installed as satraps in Armenia, Baktria and India, and if you seize Egypt or Makedonia, they may serve you as Archons. Just don't move your satraps too far away from their respective satrapies though, or their efficiency in ruling those provinces will drop.

New Bodyguards:
Some factions have new bodyguards to ride alongside your generals and most factions have both early & late variants. Most noticeable are the Eastern factions. Pontos for example will have clearly Iranian looking cavalry in the beginning, but later on the bodyguards will get a more Hellenistic look. Hayasdan will have early cavalrymen who look very similar to those of Pontos, however their late bodyguards will be much more heavily armored and will retain an Eastern look. Pahlava start out with extra-heavy cavalry armed in nomadic fashion, and will later on evolve to a super-heavy cavalry armed and decorated in the more cosmopolitan Eastern fashion. And the same is true for the Saka-Rauka.

Generals & Captains Reloaded:
One noticeable absence in previous EB versions was the lack of faction-specific generals & captains and the large number of factions whose armies were lead by vanilla generals & captains. Not anymore. In 1.0 each faction has received its own unique general & captain - men who will lead your armies and look good while doing it!

Challenging start:
Redmeth has been tinkering with the EB files since the time he came into the team and one result is the added challenge for the human player at startup, as surrounding garrisons have become stronger or more numerous. This does not affect the AI, but just the human player. So if you start the game as Makedonia, the provinces to the north will have larger garrisons and Epeiros & Koinon Hellenon will have a few more units too. We think you'll find the new start to be challenging, but far from impossible.

New barbarian music:
As announced earlier, we have incorporated music pieces from Prehistoric Ireland into EB, so now there will be more music for you to listen to when playing the barbarian factions. Click here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=87523) for the announcement itself.

Fixed reforms:
Reforms for factions have been fixed. This includes a Carthaginian reform adding heavier units to their roster, reforms for when Saka becomes more settled and "civilized", thereby granting them access to heavy infantry and heavier cavalry. The previously fixed-date reforms for the Celts are now fully dynamic and are triggered by the socio-economic advances of the Celtic peoples, transitioning them to a professional soldiery.

Traits & Ancillaries:
EB Lead Traiter BozosLiveHere is in charge of the traits & ancillaries department and has done a splendid job. There have been numerous "under-the-hood" changes to the traits & ancillaries, such as adjusting triggers, but there are also plenty of brand new features. The Seleukids & Ptolemaioi have received their own faction-specific traits & ancillaries, Swêbōz & Ptolemaioi have updated ethnicities as well, a few generals have new or updated biographies, the Season traits settings have been updated, worshiper/priest traits & ancillaries have been given a major rewrite and the list goes on and on.

Recruitable generals:
Another new feature in EB is recruitable generals, representing mercenary leaders and those not connected to the royal family by blood, marriage or adoption. Most factions will have these available as Hellenes, Easterners, Celts and Germanics. So if you need a general to lead an invasion, but don't want to use family members with nice administrative traits, why not simply hire one? Assuming your treasury is full of course, as these fellows don't come cheap!

Brand new Greek Battlemap Voicemods:
The Greek voicemod has been expanded to include more voices to better differentiate the Hellenic factions in our game. For a complete explanation, check out our preview some weeks ago -EB Voicemod Preview (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=90676).

Pahlava Faction Intro:
With kampfkrebs joining EB we can finally talk seriously about making faction intro videos. And we already have one video made for the Pahlava. We hope you like it, and we hope to bring more faction intro videos in the next release.

Stats fixes & adjustments:
EB tries to remain bugfree, but some always creep in, and stats are a notable culprit. In our defense, there are over 400 units in EB so we can't catch 'em all at once, but we sure are trying. v1.0 features a huge number of stat fixes and adjustments, too numerous to mention in detail. But as the bard would say, "the play's the thing", and improved gameplay is where you'll see the result.

The Yuezhi Invasion:
A playable faction in EB v.7x, the Yuezhi were removed from the game for the excellent reason that they weren't present on our map in 272 BC. However they did make an appearance about 100 years later, and did so in a massive and unmistakable fashion - an army 100,000 strong poured in from the Tarim Basin to the east. This historical event has now been recreated in EB, given certain in-game prerequisites. So although they might not come, it wouldn't be wise to assume otherwise. But then, it should be no trouble preparing yourself to face the largest army of horse-archers ever seen in EB. Should it?

Boii - Lugian script:
Eleutheroi in Central Europe now have scripted defense, more specifically the settlements Iuvavoaeta, Eburonum, Carrodunum, Gintaras-Ostan and Seliun-Pilis. The new defenses are targeted specifically toward the AI controlled factions and will hinder unhistorical expansion, especially of the Romani and Swêbōz. The player may also find it very difficult to conquer these settlements, but it is possible for human and AI alike. If you decide to attack these settlements you have to be well prepared and move swiftly. The Lugians and Boii will summon powerful relief armies to help their besieged settlements. Each of these five settlements also have scripted new governors to replace those who die, thus further extending their resilience. In addition to that, each settlement has a field army protecting it, scripted to always stay in the vicinity to chase away intruders.

Map Changes:
The map has also received a few changes here and there. The cities of Atiqa (Utica) & Babylon have been added, and there have been numerous border changes between provinces and also the addition of rivers, mountains and a myriad of other small improvements across the map. The biggest visible change is stefan25's total alteration to the campaign map graphics. In our opinion the map is much more vivid and lifelike, and we hope you'll feel the same.

Disasters Upgrade:
We have worked quite a bit on improving and fine tuning disasters for EB. Sadly, storms were beyond our power to fix, but we had great success elsewhere:
- Earthquakes: We have identified geographically correct locations for earthquake epicenters and now one will occur (in varying degrees of intensity) roughly every three years.
- Volcanoes: We placed all stratovolcanoes on the map, and "turned on" all of those that had eruptions during the historical period.
- Disease: There is a completely random chance for epidemic diseases to strike everywhere on the map, and we have increased their likelihood in places with heavy trade or a reliance on grain shipments.
- Floods: We have added code for floods (making flood-prone locations more likely to get them), but left it as a user-option since flooded provinces can be left with ineradicable movement penalties.

Allied Province Rulers (aka "Puppet Rulers", aka "Gov4 Rulers"):
For all factions in the game, a type4 government is essentially that of a conquered allied state who has ceded a large degree of autonomy to your faction. But in most respects they feel and act just like any other province in your empire. But now, when you conquer a territory and build a type4 government, an allied or "puppet" ruler will be spawned and will enter the city. He will have a local bodyguard and will have no mobility - he is to remain inside the city. As this is an allied territory, placing your own characters in the city will be taken as a sign of further aggression by the local populace and there may be riots. It is up to you whether or not you will control the city at that point or put it on automanage and let it tend to its own affairs. Keeping local troops stationed there is advisable, and having the city, your "ally", supply your army with their native troops would also be a logical result of the arrangement.

The Spartan Agoge:
Playing as the Koinon Hellenon, you now will have the opportunity to train your young generals in Sparte. Any general under the age of 20 who stays in the town for more than one turn will begin the agoge. Traits and script alerts will advise you on how to successfully guide your character through the training. If they remain in the agoge for the full four years (two years in the agoge itself and two more in service similar to ephebes), they will obtain traits based upon how they performed in the agoge, which performance is in turn based upon their own personal abilities. Other Hellenic factions who have captured or allied with Sparte may also have their sons trained in the agoge.

Accurate Unique Building Pillaging:
Tired of getting the same amount for destroying the Temple of Zeus at Olympia as you would for destroying a set of altars on the hillside at Alexandreia-Eschate? All unique buildings have been swapped and given new estimates of value. We are constrained by RTW engine limitations on how much buildings can be worth, but now if you sack the great temple at Hierosolyma, your reward will be significant! Whereas if you dig up the Calanish stones, you will find yourself with......stones.

Border Province Bonuses:
A few provinces that are located on the borders of the map suffer inappropriately because the game engine is not able to accurately reflect the amount of trade they had off the edge of the map. Provinces in India are most affected, but also those on the northeast corner of the map and on the east and west coasts of Africa. These provinces now have different unique buildings placed at the start of the game that increase their trade in varying degrees to more accurately represent the trade which historically passed through those regions.

Periodos:
The Olympian, Pythian, Isthmian, and Nemean Games are now included in EB. Each one comes with an icon featuring the site and a full description of the games, including instructions on how often the games should be set to maintain accuracy (the Olympian and Pythian games being quadrennial and the Isthmian and Nemean games being biennial). Additionally, they provide the ability to stage competitions.

Festivals and Games:
Besides the four chief panhellenic festivals, most factions will now have the ability to hold their own local festival in a given province. Some factions have the ability, if a large temple has been constructed, to hold regional games or a regional festival, the choice is theirs. A few factions have the ability, if a wondrous temple is present at the location, to construct panhellenic games or panhellenic festivals all their own, in addition to the traditional four.

Games and Races Changes:
"Stage Games" has been changed to "Sponsor Competitions" and "Stage Races" has been changed to "Sponsor Festivals".

Year in History Upgrade:
Only a few entries for the Year in History were present in previous builds, but this element of the modification has now been given a lot more detail. Examples have been provided in earlier previews, but besides an in-depth list of events for each year, annual numbering systems are also included at the start of each year for Romans and Hellenes, and even a Pharaonic system for the Ptolemaioi. Consuls at Rome and Eponymous Archons at Athens for each year are included, and the winners of the Olympic contests are also provided, where they are known.

Other New Buildings:
Sabaean Ritual Hunt, Sabaean Ritual Banquet Hall, Sabaean Great Ritual Banquet Hall, Sabaean Pilgrimage Site, Sabaean Great Pilgrimage Site, Qarthadastim Cippus-Naiskos Dedication, Qarthadastim Large Commemorative Monument, Basic Sanitation Levels for many factions, Pahlava Cisterns, Pahlava Bagdir-Cooled Cisterns, Pahlava and Pontic Zurkaneh Wrestling Buildings, Celtic Third Tier Academies, and Nomadic Bard Tents and Gatherings.

Other New Unique Buildings (in addition to the Periodos):
Great Persian Temple of Anahita at Ekbatana, Hellenic "Valley of the Temples" at Agrigento, Citadel of Tushpa in Hayasdan, Complex of Asklepios and Hygeia at Emporion, Drunemeton at Ankyra, Great Cult Statue of Anahita at Baktra, Garamantine Royal Cemetery in Phasania, The Canal of Menua in Hayasdan, The Dharmaraja Thupa at Taksashila, Hellenic Temples at Paestum in Campania, Sisian Stones in Hayasdan, Statue of Zeus at Olympia (in place of the old "Olympia" unique).

Building Trees by JMRC:
A new and most welcome addition to EB are building trees showing the buildings available and the pre-requisites needed to build them, as well as how governments can affect things. The building trees are bundled with the v1.0 release, and are also available at the EB website. A big thanks to JMRC for making these.

Arkatreides' Unit Cards:
His excellent unit cards are now bundled with EB v1.0 which you can use to view recruitment provinces and stats at a glance. And yes, the unit cards are redone and include all the new units in v1.0, and even feature new stats not previously displayed.

New units added:
The following list is of new and in some cases reskinned and/or renamed units.
It's worth noting that we have 129 new or completely reskinned units in game. By comparison, the total of all units in the first EB release (v.72 ) was 280. So the new units alone make the EB 1.0 experience significantly deeper and more complex!

EB Team, congratuations. You've poured much time into the mod, and you have finally arrived at your "full" release. EB is very immersive, and in my opinion, is one of the best mods out there.

Too bad my computer can't handle it >_<.

Watch the Shining. Race down some Jägermeister and let the nectar of the gods lead your hand. Then when you wake up from a hangover you realize you forgot to turn the paper in and seek comfort in EB 1.0 and 5 years from now you and likeminded people will meet and you will introduce yourself: "I am Wonderland and I'm an EB addict".

Being a lazy worthless couch potatoe that I am. I forgot to prepare for this GLORIOUS moment and I actually did not uninstalled my old RTW and EB 0.81 mod beforehand. So I had to do it now.And at this moment I had just finished instaling the fresh copy RTW. And now I am just going to download this sweetie.........And estimated downloading time from filefront for me is 01:30

And I probably will listen to Bovi's advice and will go to sleep ( I will still get a 5 hours of decent sleep) Because without a sleep today I would get surely my ass handed to me tomorrow (well technically already today) by all the enemies of Greco-Bactrian Kingdom in my upcoming campaign.

YEAH BUDDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The finaly awaited time is HERE!!!!!!! EB has the answer to my wishes of a History Game that was accurate!

You fellas have put in tons of work and countless hours for the enjoyment of all of us. One thing I would like to say.... besides all the fun and whatnot, this "game" and this thread has tought me a lot about the ancient world and the people who lived in that time. It will be at least 10 pages long if I were to list all the stuff I've learned. I see this "game" and this thread as the best thing that has been done to spread knowledge of history since somebody thought of writting stuff down.

Fellas.... all I can say is that this forum is about to go CREAZY with action!! And think of all the thread references, FAQ refences, Geasatae NOT overpowered etc that awaits us. But all in all, a bunch of people (including me) are going to learn a LOT about history. (and draw blank stares when they quote what the romani did to make a point in a casual discussion with friends).

Fun times ahead fellas....

Looks like we forgot to mention the inclusion of Cape Tainaron as a mercenary hub of sorts. It's in there: just send a general on a ship with a lot of cash to Cape Tainaron (aka Taenarum) and you'll probably leave with a large (and expensive) army in tow.

Skuzzy, use 7-zip to extract the mod. Then manually create the shortcut. Copy the old 0.81aV2 one, change the path and remove the -nm switch. The removal of the switch is to get the Pahlava intro, if you're not going to play them there is little reason to do it though.

Thanks a freaking lot to all the developers, scripters, beta testers, bug hunters, modellers [2- and 3d], programmers, team leaders, researchers, mappers, unit card designers, designers in general, musicians, skinners and all those I forgot. Thank you 4 your patience, spirit, diligence and tolerance towards us - the impatient :whip: , but veeeeeery thankful :applause: fans.

This mod is the best that ever happened to me on a pc monitor. Some freinds of mine keep asking me, if I was still playing that one game with the strange title. I can sure reply "Hell YEAH!". "Why that?" they ask....and I would state: "It is a lot of fun, interesting, thrilling, inspiring educating [god knows how often I took books from the library:study: , googled or wikipediaed b/c of some culture, unit, town, ship, special sights...you name it, I saw it first on EB].

As a little sidennote: When I told a history interested friend of mine about EB, he actually bought a new PC to be able to play.

So enough with the brown-nosing.

I final YIPPY... now i still gotta work for 6 hrs. and afterwards say good-bye to my Carthagian camapaign 0.81...and hello to my "Who knows"- 1.0 empire building.

Cheers~ , U RULE Subedei

Right.

A question: Can somebody hold my hand and bring me through how to unlock all the missing units for the custom battle? It is irritating to want to play a Baktria custom to find that Heatiroi Kataphraktoi aren't there, or Getai without Agema Orditon...

In the EB directory, you'll find a folder named "mp custom game edu". Inside you'll find the export_descr_unit files (commonly known as EDU) which are prepared to give custom battles the utmost accuracy in terms of unit availability.

All you have to do is backup the file "export_descr_unit.txt" inside the EB\Data folder and replace it with one of those above.

However, don't forget to replace back the standard EDU when you wish to play a campaign, or nasty things will happen.

BTW, if you get nice footage from one of those custom battles, make sure you share it with the community. :2thumbsup:

edit:
OOOOOO THAT'S WHY! It is still uncompressing to standard C:\ directory. I thought after 0.81 you guys were going to fix this. It uncompresses, as is standard, to the Application Data folder. That usually resides in C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\, but it doesn't have to be there. If you are having space difficulties, I suggest moving your profiles off C to another fixed drive. Otherwise extract the files with 7-zip as bovi suggested.

Brand new Greek Battlemap Voicemods:
The Greek voicemod has been expanded to include more voices to better differentiate the Hellenic factions in our game. For a complete explanation, check out our preview some weeks ago -EB Voicemod Preview.
In short, it's differentiation of the unit voices.

Download completed 3h 20m ago, lasted 5 hours. That was because, despite my promise, I carried on some other downloads alongside. (Some rare documentaries mind you. ~D)

Been uploading since then. So far 125 MB has been served. My upload is manually limited while using the net but I'm removing the limit when idle.

It will take some extra time to really install and play it though. Been waiting it for years, once a team member and ever a fan, and I can wait a little longer. It's festival time over here; we have guests and all. :balloon2:

Should it?

Digby Tatham Warter
10-12-2007, 16:38
I have had these problems before. Ultimately, I had to install Rome on another computer, and there patch it up to 1.3 and then 1.5, and then copy it back to my computer again.

Anyone who got a smoother solution is welcome to help. :help:
I bought another addition of RTW, the new one, 1 dvd instead of the 3 cds, it comes patched up to 1.5, cost me £5. Basically I just got fed up of all the messing about.

I couldn't help with the bit-torrent because I down loaded at work(no internet at home yet). Our work set up down loaded at 1MB a sec-nice.

Congrats to all EB's on the release, it's being a long road and your hard work paid off, your dedication more than proven, thanks very much. Also thanks for the timing, slots in just in time for my 4 days off, I'll crawl out of my study just long enough to avoid eye strain and a DVT-hopefully.

As you may know I’m somewhat new to EB. Downloaded it late last month. I must say overall, EB is a vast improvement over TW-R. You’ve fixed all of the major inherent TW-R problems. Now, am I to understand that today, October12th, marks the introduction of a new (as I've read much improved) EB version? I’ve reviewed the changes and they're extremely well thought out. Great would be an understatement as I plan to download it soon.

Yet, I’ve two small additional questions?

(1) By the 4th BC sea movement within a 90 day period easily reached anywhere in the Mediterranean. In fact, this appears to be the sailing time for Greek merchantmen departing southern France for southwest Britain (please see Pytheas’ "Peri Tou Okeanou" [Latin font]). Also it seems that certain types of sea craft preformed well, as far as range was concerned, in one realm but not in others. Has the EB design team considered increasing the per-turn range of some types of naval units?

(2) I see you addressed a Swabian Military Reform and its association with the Cimbri/Teutons. As you may know one of the most significant events between the 2nd Punic War and the Civil Wars of the 1st century was the sudden appearance of Cimberi/Teutons late in the 2nd century on the north Euro. frontier. Because of the nature of their early history (Keltic capture of Rome, Hannibal’s Kelts, and reconquest of the north Italian Kelts) this event scared the holy be-Jesus out of the Romans (ie. terror cimbricus).

Forced by the devastation of their homeland due to one or more North Sea quakes and associated tsunami (see Strabo), the Cimberi/Teutoni invasion was finally halted by Marius in southern France and later northern Italy (yes Sulla is given credit here). This Cimberi/Teutoni invasion of more than a half million people resulted in the direct ruin of the northern Iberian, Gallic, and Boii (Kelto-germanic confederation) economies and politics; opened the door for Swabian dominance in Germany (and forced the mid 1st century Usipeti/Tencterian invasion of 450,000 people) and later attempted expansion in Gaul, and the outright destruction of several very large Roman armies.

Their final defeat also catapulted the career of Marius into the upper troposphere (helped Sulla as well), and flooded the Italian markets with many hundreds of thousands of slaves, which in turn contributed to the early 1st century Italian slave revolts and all that associated with the increased status of the Roman rich (cheap labor, lower costs, richer, bigger estates, fewer small farms, more landless young Latin men; better trained and larger permanent armies) and accelerated the end of the Republic. If Marius was not as capable as he was, Rome may never have become a world-class empire?

This event may be similar to the hordes demonstrated in TW-BI. I see you have inserted a simar change called the Yuezhi Invasion. Has the EB design team considered including the sudden appearance of a Cimberi/Teutoni or so-named Eleutheroi horde in Denmark sometime in the late 2nd century?

If EB team has already considered a naval movement change and a Cimbric Event please disregard.

I'm not sure, but I think movement allowances are somewhat abstracted in EB. Like, land armies don't travel what they would likely be capable of in 3 months, and neither do naval forces.

Besides, a fleet might find slower going than an individual ship for other reasons. Just like an army on land moves slower than a single man would, due to supply issues etc.

Bovi, thanks for the good advice, I think I'll do that.

With Swêboz I didn't get a client ruler, when I build a Type4-Government...
Is this normal? (It was in the Swêboz capital btw)
EDIT: Uhm, just forgot to activate the campaign script xD

That message "Connection Timed out" means that you lost connection with the WWW; hence it's a tech issue on your end. Has nothing whatsoever to do with working/broken links. You could try DL with Firefox which has a download manager (mind you not every mirror site is overly keen on them) and is therefore capable of pausing/resuming download on crashes etc.

You could also try to repair your file by downloading the rest through torrent -though it may not work after all. Finally, you could check the guid Sassem wrote in the Bugs & Support section.

This happens to be one of the most beautiful mods I've played of any TW game. But I will say one thing, some of the factions are bloody hard to begin with and you have to be extremely aggressive from the start just to keep out of the red.

Hello all! I was wondering if the load times for this have improved over v0.81? It would take forever for that to load on my computer which is why I have been stuck with playing Rome: Total Realism all summer. My computer is a AMD dual-core rated at 3.33 GHz.
So far I find v1.0 to be slower, I had no problem with v0.81.
Even though I find loading the game and the AI turns slow, EBv1.0 is certainly worth it.

There is a patch/file to download at the EB website that has the standard sky on the campaign map, instead of the new one with clouds in it. Installing the old one may well quicken things up.

Hmmm, I can't seem to find the file for the vanilla sky/clouds. I did find the one for the vanilla sea though.

What graphics card do you have and how much RAM?
I have a similar CPU to yours with 1gb RAM and a Radeon X1300 pro and 0.81 absolutely flew for me, I never had any problems with loading times apart from when starting the game up. 1.0 is noticably slower, the AI turns can take a while, personally I don't mind but if 0.81 was slow on yours 1.0 would probably crawl.

Sorry, that's the one, it's the clouds moving over the sea that confused me over the name.

I have a ATI xpress card that's integrated (I use a notebook). It's 256 MB but since it's integrated it's not as great as a desktop card. Although I recently got World in Conflict and that works just fine.
I have 1.0 GHz of RAM and I use Windows Vista.

Yeah I know...but I haven't had any problems yet, and vanilla RTW and RTRPE work great with no load times at all. I was under the impression that clock speed would determine how long it took the game to load initially (i.e. from double-clicking on the desktop to when the game menu finally appears) but I guess not.

I'll be starting a campaign later tonight, we'll see how performance is on the battlefield.

WOW. This is worth waiting 15 minutes to start. There's no lag when entering battles or going back to the map, and the battles run just as smooth as vanilla RTW. I am incredibly impressed with the depth of this game. Thank you EB team!!!

I had to wait a week and a half to play it, because I was away from my own PC.

But it was sooo worth it. The Year in Histories are brilliant! And the start is so much more challenging. I actually lost a city (and poor Scipio Asina) to the rebels this time.

This winter will be so sweet, all new game realeses and now EB 1.0! I just had a nasty fight whit my entire family only to enter the forums to check for updates and there it was... shineing like a opend gold chest. Pure entertainment and happyness.

I just got 8.1v2 up and running few months ago, i never though mutch of this mod even after entering the website once, i guess i was fooled by the name barbarorum for awile becuse they never been my favorit factions. Although i decided to try the mod after i played total realism for some time i was totaly amazed, you guys turnd Rome Total War into something beyond my own imagenation of what i though it should have been like.

This is by far the best mod i ever layed my ayes on. Only wisht more people coud take part of this creation, moust of my friends thats also RTW fanatics was stuned when after a weeks naging on my part, got them to download the mod. However enough about that, i need to dig in to the hellenas faction and conquer europe once more.

Keep up the good work! :viking::smash::egypt:

I have only just learned about the EB mod. I've never tried a mod, but I have "worn out" RTW and BI, having played many sides and find it hard to maintain interest in the games. The mod looks great, obviously. However, as I have only a dialup connection, downloading the 600mb file isn't realistic. Would anyone sell me a disc of the mod?:help: Thanks.

A disk?

Try the torrent download, that's much faster than a regular one. :2thumbsup:

10-26-2007, 01:54
Dialup isn't very good, but you can use it with torrent. It can resume the download at any time. However, you might be better off visiting a friend with broadband who can get it down for you faster, or try a library/internet cafe connection.

Would the Saka get the building tree reforms like the Parthians if they are to conquer Bactria and India - simulating the establishment of the Indo-Saka kingdom?

And if not, why?

My laptop's video card crash coincided with the initial release of this fine MOD! I was on the phone with HP almost daily checking on when it woud come in!

I ordered Goldsworthy's Complete Roman Army so I could feel that I was doing something "constructive!

The download was fast and without a hitch.

How many turns per year is EB 1.0? My game seems to be going very fast!

Is it 3? Is there a glitch if you forget to hit the Script at any time?

Thanks

Admetos

4 turns per year. You won't really notice a difference if you miss the script for a couple of turns.

Just a quick note to thank you for a brilliant expansion to RTW. I was really pleased to see that v1.0 had been released since I got fed up with M2TW - EB has so much more to offer on all shelves IMO.

My favourite faction is probably the Romani, but I'll postpone that campaign until someone makes a mod like the old "Roma" mod, since there is very little challege as it currently is. Hayasdan, Pahlava and Pontos are simply brilliant campaigns - a really good challenge. My only problem is that it takes me forever to progress through a campaign, since I simply have to read all the descriptions.

My only comments are regarding the high costs for markets and port upgrades. I always do a quick cost-benefit analysis before building economic buildings, and in most settlements it's just not worthwhile building anything beyond the 2nd level of merchants when the payback is 100+ turns. Each level gives only +1 in trade base bonus, which is the same you get for many government structures, temples, Large Granery, River Port etc., so the benefit of the trade base bonus is actually "depreciated" when so many other buildings provide this benefit as well.

I'm surprised that some ports have 4 or more trade fleets available (up to 8 IIRC), when the maximum number of export fleets is 3. I might be wrong on this, but in all the years of playing RTW I've never seen more than 3 export fleets (same issue applies to M2TW btw). It seems a little steep to pay 30,000 mnai for something that adds no benefit :)

Thanks again for a great mod!

regards,
KPII

One thing about cities and walls:
How can I change the walls level in the city? (what file should be changed?) And maybe when making corrections for EB someone would change Lilybaeum from "Wooden palisade" to "Stone walls" like the Syracuse? => Lilybaeum was at the time one of the strongest fortresses, where not only Pyrrhus had broken his teeth upon, but also the Roman legions had to abandon their siege and the fortress felt into Roman hands only after the conclusion of the First Punic War... bnow it's all too easy to capture Lilybaeum...

Great game, its frustrating having to wait for it to load, but worth it.

Also, I was wondering how soon would there be a release for a patch or upgrade for the bugs, like a 1.1 or something? Does the team have a timetable for that?

Thanks

11-15-2007, 17:38
The EB team is planning to release EB 1.1 which should have, among other things, First Cohorts, although I doubt they'll tell you when (as they don't know, and even if they do, they never tell us!). As for bugfixes for 1.0, all the current ones can be found here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=93820). Please note that 1.0 has none of the fixes found in that thread, and so you should download and extract all permanent fixes, and any optional ones you want (again, I'd recommend getting them all).

This is a feature ;)

Factions in EB have acces to more units than the costum battle rooster can show (they are all there, if you use random army they might popup).

In order to solve it EB 1.0 is shipped with an edu only for costum battle (limiting units to faction and some regional only). You find it in your eb folder its called costum multiplayer edu. Just replace the origional edu with it, and play costum battles. of yourse, if you want to play camapign again you need to switch it back

Someone has made a program which can do this automatically, you'll find it in the unofficial mods subforum.

They didn't allow me to, I figured it out(at the time of this post) though I set my download manager to identify itself as IE7 and it seemed to work.

Also I hate Torrent cause it didn't work when I first tried using a torrent client and it pissed me off, and I have a bit of anger at times........

I would like to ask a question.
EB 1.0 was released as a full installation rather than a patch for 0.81 version.
Will the next version( EB 1.1) be released in the same way or will it be a patch to 1.0 ???

It is important for me because my web traffic is rather expensive:(

Admetos
12-19-2007, 21:09
I think there'll be a full installer for people who haven't got 1.0, and a patch for those who have. Don't take my word for it though seeing as I'm not on the team.

MarcusAureliusAntoninus
12-19-2007, 22:01
v1.0 had to be a full installer. v0.8x installed things that were no longer needed for v1.0 and actually caused it not to work. It was impossible to patch from v0.8x to v1.0.

But as for v1.1, from what I have heard, there will be both a full installer and a patch.
