Many flock to our Europa Barbarorum cult!

A new system of play is begun in this back alley of the forum.
As of this morning, and I am never present in the morning, there have been a pair of very new members appeal.
Brilliant! I applaud not only their willingness to add to our Senate, but also the clear sight that our game has brought recent posters of the forum into greater activity.

These members and others are now Senators.
However, I would like to hear from all of you, if there is a particular province of which you would prefer to be placed as an ambassador.
There is importance in this - if you were to be placed in Sicily, you will have the most influence, save the Shophet and GameMaster, as to what is constructed and what occurs in your Sicilian province.
Therefore, before we make things permament and too many members choose the same settlement, appeal here for which province you would want to join.
If possible, ask for that which you would be able to debate most accurately within.

Once we start the game, as soon as our treasury will allow, we will add you to that town in-game as a diplomat, and this way you will be a physical character in our world, with a true character name.

Scourge of the Eastern countries, you have been here and interested in Succession games before even I became involved, therefore I think it necessary that we study your position in being able to attend meetings.
Please try and use X-Fire, and if you are certain you cannot, we may be able to change our platform of discussion.
For my part, I thought MSN a better and more reliable podium.

In light of this, I ask ALL members to reply to me if you use MSN Messenger, or X-Fire the most, if you are more comfortable with one or the other, and to give me here in the correct way, both your MSN Email and your X-Fire accounts.

This way we can give the priority consideration, and adapt if necessary.

I will be online again two and a half hours from the posting of this, when I plan to meet Bootsiuv and discuss, hopefully, the finalisation of the in-game constitution.
Do not let the word by which I describe our rules, let it be thought that our legislations are either too complex or too restricting.
For the rules we have made are going to be enforced only by the GameMaster and perhaps the Shophet.
They are guidelines to these people on how the other players should be forming themselves in play, and all you will have to do to be in accordance with our rules, are simply follow instructions you will learn as we play.

You will, once we have the constitution, hardly need to read it, it will be posted as a referral for players who are unsure or who have queries, however, the main learning process for you as a new player will be to watch how our routine is played out, and mimic it in character.

I promise, and exert myself, to ensure it will be very simple in practice.

Alright,X-Fire is working again.A fresh installation was all it needed.Anyways, the name is EasternScourge.Yay,live discussions are a go for me.

Alrighty...Xfire installed and appears to be working. Username: theorykid

:2thumbsup:

edit: I'll take some backwater province to start: I suspect Turdetania, in the city of
Gader will have a most pleasing climate, but I'll represent the people of anywhere.

Regarding MSN vs. Xfire, i have no preference, as I generally avoid it anyway. I have more
people on my 'ignore' list than my 'friends' list on MSN...

It would appear X-Fire will be the best platform for our discussions.

After downloading and using X-Fire for the first time, I am very pleased with its features and ease of use.

MSN also lack the ability to open a chatroom, and it is here where are senate meetings should take place, so all can see what each other have to say.

I have also taken it upon myself to assign players to senators, with Sassem's help. I feel we have covered all areas of the empire equally, and every part should have a fair say. The city of Kart-Hadast itself has 3 senators, as opposed to the other provinces 1. This is to represent the importance of the wealthy merchants and aristocracy in the city itself....and it would appear that the entire empire will have to oppose to stop the Capital from doing it's will, as it should be.

The Senator tags are finished, although they may be updated.

Note that you will only have to add the tag to your sig once, and it will update automatically from then on. This goes for governors as well. This will also update automatically every 10 game years (5 terms) to show the progression of governors and generals.

It would appear that the SSbQ Mini-Mod won't be done until tomorrow....downloading the above mod will still give you city mod and some others, but it doesn't address some of the issues discussed between myself and some of the other members, such as unbalanced prices for Baktrian Cataphracts.

These are minor issues, at best, however, so the above mod is still useful for those who would just like more resilient but less deadly eles (more HP, lower attack and lethality, etc.), a few minor stat changes such as raised armor values for some heavily armored units, and MAA's city mod. It also contains Darth's Formations converted to EB by mlp071. Anyone who desires these things are welcome to download it.

SSbQ succession game members should wait for the updated version....

I have a rather simple question. If the features of these mods are cool (wich I believe they are until proven otherwise), why haven't they been included in the standard issue of EB 1.0 ?

Also, senator of Alalia seems nice at first sight. But how do u get the senator avatar to appear alongside every post ?

I have a rather simple question. If the features of these mods are cool (wich I believe they are until proven otherwise), why haven't they been included in the standard issue of EB 1.0 ?

1. MarcusAureliusAntoninus City Mod wasn't included because they don't want to put history on rails, so to speak. A simpler explanation is that they simply don't want it, but many (if not most) veteran players feel it is favorable. It also reduces growth bonuses in most buildings in EB. Many veteran players feel the growth in EB is a little on the high side, especially in the fertile areas of the world. This has been toned down somewhat, so there is less worry about rebellion in the mid-game.

2. The elephants were given 2 HP in 'vanilla EB 1.0'. This translates into them dieing rather quickly to skirmishers, their natural enemies. After testing some elephants in game, I did find them to be rather weak.

Therefore, we have decided to increase their hitpoints to 5. This was shown to allow the beasts to withstand some 4 volleys from skirmishers (on average) before routing. I think this is favorable.

Note that their attack rating and lethality stats have been reduced, so they kill fewer troops. This both compensates their raise in hitpoints, and makes them act in a more historical manner, breaking up formations and scaring men into disarray, so infantry and cavalry can flood in and take advantage of the disorganized state of the enemy.

3. The increase in cost for Baktrian Cataphracts. This may have been an oversight, as their only 2600 IIRC as of right now, and this is far too cheap. madmatg says he's spoken to members of the team and it should be 4900.

You have to remember that they've altered/added over 23000 files. There is bound to be a few oversights. This is unavoidable with such a large alteration. Thus, very often the fans take it upon themselves to seek out discrepencies and fix these themselves.

4. As a final note to justify our alterations, the team members are currently researching many of the things we have changed, and I feel fairly confident they'll draw the same conclusions that we have.

Also, senator of Alalia seems nice at first sight. But how do u get the senator avatar to appear alongside every post ?

Place this in your signature with the [IMG] tags around it.

edit on that post, the EB guys said that it looked like a mistake but did not say anything about what the price should be, i got the price for the unit cards that say the price should be about 4x the upkeep(so about 4600 for hetairoi cataphracts)

I'm back, and will be back till Tuesday evening, then the net contactable time for me will be thursday evening...

Urgh, you spelled my name wrongly in the senatorial avatar. :( I'm not pezhetarioi... :( :(

But hooray! Is there some place where I can read a finalised constitution? I'm afraid I didn't have that much patience to plow through those reams of discussion. XD So when does the game start, and what do senators do again, in a nutshell?

I registered only in the hope I could join this great republic, I do not ask much more than the oportunity to kill and profit in the name of the Republic!

By the way, are there any military rank available or are we only alloewd to gov ranks? I would also enjoy seeing the constitution!

Hello everyone,
no, I'm not dead, yet.

I was busy defragmenting, installing a clean RTW and eventually, EB.
(things which require all my CPU ressources, and especially no internet in the meantime)

I'm ready to go, although that filesfront link doesn't lead me to Spoofa's mod.

Now, about Xfire, I've got a mic but no knowledge on how to use it
If somebody's got time, could you please help me ?

Bootsiuv
10-19-2007, 17:01
Hmmm....the link will be fixed. I apologize for any inconvenience.

@Pezhetairoi

That's my mistake. I'll let Sassem know....hopefully it's an easy fix.

As for the constitution, we're in the process of completing one. Unfortunately, Glenn was delayed yesterday evening, and we were unable to meet on X-Fire for discussions regarding the power of senators.

@Poulp'

Glad to see you're still alive. :beam:

We'll be starting soon, hopefully.

@Leao Magno

Welcome Aboard. We'll assign you a senator position straight away.

@Glenn

I apologize for being unavailable when you came online, but I usually fall asleep by 3 or so, and I waited for you until then.

To Poulp

With xfire when you start chatting with someone there will be a little green phone in the bottom left of the chat box. With ur mic plugged in just hit that button and you will essentially "call" that person. If they accept you two will be chatting. It can also be set up for conference chat, but i think we will be doing text for our meetings. Hope that helps!

Downloading x-fire then! and wating for the link to the mod

Ag3nt_Magnum
10-19-2007, 18:28
Ok, this seems really strange but the whole signature thing, for some reason or another, doesn't seem to work. I clik the "insert image" button. Ctrl-V the link u gave me with the senator avatar, click save settings, and then whatever I do, it just doesn't seem to want to stick. It just returnes to the previous setting.
Also, another somewhat odd question. If everyone who's a senator is gonna be a diplomat in-game, wouldn't it be better if we use (once we start the game and everything) the portait of our respective character and not the generic bearded phoenician.

Bootsiuv
10-19-2007, 19:10
Good points, Ag3nt Magnum.

I'll leave that up to Sassem, as he's in charge of the avatars, and he's also very busy creating some other things for our council thread, which should prove very helpful to other players.

As far as your sig goes....simply copying the image and inserting image won't work.

What you must do is right click your avatar, click on 'properies' (found all the way down at the bottom of the list), and copy the 'address (URL)' line. It will begin with 'http://blahblahblah (The actual address can be found in my previous post addressed to you).

Then, go into edit sig, paste the address into the edit sig box, then you must place [IMG] tags around the address. Note that the the second one has a /IMG inside the brackets. You may also want to look at the vB Code List (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/misc.php?do=bbcode), as this will also explain it (and many other useful features).

Once this is done, it should display properly. If your still having problems, please PM me (or X-Fire as bootsiuv).

10-19-2007, 19:29
I am also having problems but i talked to sassem about it. My error was can not use an external site for an image in sig. So what sassem told me today was that u have to be a higher member on the forums to be able to add a sig at all. With that being said we should just do some more posting, don't spam or will get in trouble, and everything will be good i hope.

Bootsiuv

okay...

The campaign is not loading, once I've selected the starting faction and pressed continue, the loading bar is not loading and eventually, it fades to a black screen, the music still playing in the background.

Right now, I'm tired, I still have a scenario to prepare for tomorrow's RPG (which probably will only be half complete, but my players tend to screw things up at the middle)

Back to square one, I'll restart everything again tomorrow evening or the day after.

So if I'm not responding that shall mean I'm busy installing

Look at this!
The citizens of EB will be overcome by a conspiracy of Soft Sodium biQarbonate tags, and wonder with great apprehension, what does brood under the surface of the public!

I myself have not been able to play 1.0 yet, I am still downloading.
However, it will be installed by tomorrow morning, and then I can trouble myself with this mini-mod.
Therefore I can help with no technical questions, only those directed towards gameplay and rules.
I suggest then, that in order to make Spoofa marginally less bewildered by questions, and to help him be sure of which to answer, if you have a technical problem to do with the mini-mod, or other smaller issues as have been mentioned, send him a private message.
Please remember however, that he is not an EB developer, and so you should not irritate him with queries too complicated, the mini-mod is still being tested.

As for mistakes upon nametags, this is a small error, and not worthy of a general shout or groan!
Be more patient, as Sassem has taken on many numerous projects, some of which are unknown to me, in order to make our role-play more immersive.
Perhaps, Sassem, you could write here what some of these are, and then the players may be more respective of your efforts.

Leao Magno, you are ambitious, and for this do not let other senators become your enemies in future, but for this reason you may be a priority in becoming a governor, which will give you a chance to become a general.
The way you will become so, is by being active, thorough and useful in your proposals to the council as a senator of your province.
This will be noted by all, and then you will slowly become a good example of a governor, in this case, as soon as a new family member is born in game, the life of that future governor will be yours.

I think that either Bootsiuv, Spoofa or Sassem, as I have no game yet, should start a Carthaginian campaign, and take note of all young children in the beginning.
This way we can assign future governors to some senators before the game begins.

Bootsiuv, or exalted GameMaster, I will be more available today due to several injuries obtained by my legs.
And so I will, after taking care that my horses have lavishly enjoyed their breakfast, return here regularly to meet you on X-Fire.

Council members, I will take no rest today until the rules are completed!

Most fair and most honourable councillors, X-Fire has betrayed us!

For X-Fire, as you all know,
Was Spoofa's angel!
Judge, O you gods,
How Spoofa doth loved it.
This was the most.. unkindest cut of all!

For.. ingratitude!
Stronger than traitors arms,
Quite vanquished him!
And burst, his mighty heart!

And as our mantles muffled up our faces,
Even, at the base of madmatg's statua,
Which all the while ran pure blood,
Our great chatroom fell!

O, what a fall there was my countrymen,
And then I, and you, and ALL of us, fell down!
Whilst bloody treason flourished over us!

So, in light of this most terrible catastrophe, our GameMaster, a most noble and well advised man, has chosen MiRC to host our Council.
But, be not rushed to download this device until we have tested it!
And it will be tested, as I will be, most assuredly, discussing and finishing our laws within the next few hours.
When we have completed these things, we will report here both our constitution, and our opinion of the MiRC channel.

There are some other things I will discuss in the public eye here, but later.
And, as a token announcement, you will be most pleased with the idea Sassem, of his own accord and initiative, has planned for our game!
He has exerted his creativity, and founded it well in several projects for the benefit of our games!
So be not in haste to denounce his accidental errors, please!

Wait! I have found, to my resentment, that mIRC seems to be a "Try before you Buy" offer!
This cannot be allowed in our Senate, as we have a great expenditure on things both military and civil, and cannot be giving mnai for the maintenance of our podium also!
I must be gone for now, but I will await further details from our CultMaster before downloading.

mIRC is out...I'm not going to require a program that will require someone to pay $20.

That being said, if X-Fire proves too unstable (as it has recently....the chat rooms freeze), we may just be forced to do away with live council meetings.

It is unfortunate, but may be unavoidable, as a council meeting with everyone having 20 ims up is just ridiculously hard to manage and foolishly complex.

I'm glad the issue with the mod has been resolved.

Sassem's spoiler can be found HERE (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showpost.php?p=1705175&postcount=278)

It's essentially a dynamic building browser for all cities in the empire....once its complete. Sassem wanted me to stress that this was an early draft, and the template may change, but things like this will be made available so players who aren't Shophet will have a better understanding of what's going on.

Bootsiuv

EDIT: We're looking into other methods of providing our players with a stable, free live chat room. It may be a temporary X-Fire issue, but it is something that can't happen if 10+ players meet online to discuss things...

No Senator Leao, it is not.
This, I have told you all, that it was not a definite change.
However, for the amount of players we will be hosting within our meetings,
X-Fire will simply be impossible to apply to our wishes!
It will not support five people talking in a room, let alone our entire Senate!
mIRC is not going to be made official either, as it is not free.

Therefore, Bootsiuv and I are in a demonic chaos, attempting to decide a platform on which we can debate, the entire constitution of gameplay rules and guidelines, and organising all of our new players and assignments!

Be patient, and be sure, that nothing is certain until we have here said so.
And therefore, nothing is certain as we have not yet ever said so!

The only things I can reassure you of are these; that we are soon to be beginning our succession game; that the constitution will be finished today; that we will very shortly apprise you of the chatroom program we will use; and that we are doing all these things most expediently, that you may all soon enjoy the idea created by Bootsiuv.

Yes, MSN Messenger is our new candidate.
However, Bootsiuv is yet to download this device and test it for himself.
Therefore, those of you who do not have MSN Messenger, do not yet download it and create an account.
This may change, Bootsiuv may discover something within the program that he does not agree with the same as I.
Wait until it has been tested.

you have to see it like this every settlement we are going to own (a a lot hopefully) will be represented in there so image your self a browser with 50+ settlements

If anyone of you have some tips about it just let me know

I'm using

Adobe indesign cs3--->templates for the sig's
Adobe photoshop cs3--->for copy/paste stuff a 1000 times
microsoft office excel 2003--->template for the building browser
and of course photobucket for storage

So please if you have tips or trouble about the building tree please let me know

i need feedback because it's going to be a lot of work to set things up and to maintain
so if you think it isn't going to work (helpful) ok just let me know
so i can start actually playing EB10 instead of cutting it a part

For now i'm going shopping after that i 'm going to play EB i almost forgot how it looks in gaming mode :freak:

Noble Sassem, the browser seems exceptional for me and it loaded pretty quick. Never been in a Sucession game before so I do not know if it will be the most useful or not and I liked the initial size of pictures, but it may get a bit too dense with a whole lot more of buildngs perhaps, something 3/4 the present size?

Great work Spoofa.

I must apologize to Glenn, for not returning online last nite, as I was held up.

I would like to finalize the rules today.

I have gleamed several good ideas from Glenn and Boru, and I would like to thank them for their help in this matter.

Well, when's this whole thing going to be starting? I'm chafing at the bit and raring to go and add my discordant voice to senatorial debates. XD And this will then become the OOC thread while an official thread is begun, right?

Bootsiuv
10-21-2007, 06:11
That is correct, Pezhetairoi. This will remain our OOC thread during the game, as creating an actual OOC thread would be redundant IMO, and this way we'll keep all OOC discussion in one place for easy reference.

We'll also be beginning as soon as possible, as there is still a few minor things that I must do. The constitution is all but completed, and several members have been very helpful regarding this area of our game, most notably Glenn and Boru. I thank them for their input, but have completed our in-game constitution, and now plan on moving forward.

That being said, check back as often as possible. I may put the council thread up as early as tomorrow evening, but I require Sassem online before I do. I will post our official nominations for Shophet in the announcement post (post #2) of the council thread, with voting to be held over the next 24 hours. The usual time for the first Shophet's term may be reduced so we can make our scheduled live meeting next Saturday.

I ask that all members now PM their X-Fire addresses (or a mssg saying you won't be participating in live debates), and the time you'll most likely be available every Saturday, so that I may compile them and give them to Sassem who will have them input into a spreadsheet for quick and easy reference. This will also give me an official tally of our player list, so no-shows and inactive players will be done away with/demoted.

Think of this as the official roll call. If you do not PM me, then I will place you on an inactive list. You will not be taken off of this inactive list until you PM me here. This is a way to keep tabs on who is in, and who may need to be done away with (no-shows), or demoted (inactive governors). Thank you for your cooperation.

I also personally apologize for any problems our members have had with the SSbQ Succession Game Mini-Mod, as it were. Spoofa has changed several aspects of our game and working out all of the bugs does take some time. I do STRONGLY encourage that you make certain to create a back-up of the original files that are overwritten (although I may provide a link to a fresh unaltered set of files as a back up before we begin the game).

I forgot to mention GMT. I assumed that most people knew. I apologize.

I will now post our constitution as I have finished it, and I ask that Glenn and Boru review and post any queries or concerns they may have, as there ideas were instrumental in allowing me to create this. I took ideas from both, as both had some fairly different thoughts on play (one prefers faster play, while the other prefers slower play....I am somewhat 'in the middle' as it were).

I think I've found a good middle ground between both extremes.

These rules will be found in the OP of our council thread....

Official SSbQ Succession Game Constitution

On the Powers of Shophet

1) Any council member can run for the office of Shophet (senators and governors).

2) To run for Shophet, all nominees must express their wish to run before 11:59 P.M. EST (7:59 P.M. GMT) on the Wednesday preceding the election.

3) The Shophet will be elected by a council of his peers on the Friday of every week. Voting will take place over a period of 24 hours in the Council Thread. We will not use live chats for voting.

4) The Shophet will begin his term at any time following the live council meeting held on every Saturday (time pending), but must complete his term by the following Thursday.

After the Shophet posts his savegame, the next group of candidates for Shophet will be announced, and the process of voting will begin again.

5) The Shophet does not vote on matters in the council. He acts as judge of the proceedings, breaking tie-votes and guiding the general direction of the proposals based on strategic decisions.

On the powers of Council Members (Governors and Senators)

1) Senators recieve one vote per proposal in council, while Governors recieve two.

2) Governors have 24 hours to complete battles in the field and return the save game, or the Shophet will confiscate the battle.

3) Battles fought by Governors are fought out by their respective members, barring extenuating circumstances to be decided by the Gamemaster.

4) Senators will move up in rank based on many things, but not limited to; activity, maturity, and general service given to the empire.

5) Council Members can amend these Constitutional Rules, or add addendums, during council by a formal proposal at any time during the course of the week. These will be voted on at the live debate (although a mechanism will be made available for those who cannot attend). The following format will be used for Constitutional Proposals in the council.

Constitutional Proposal 1.1 where 1 is the term of the Shophet, and .1 is the number of the proposal. So Constitutional Proposal 14.6 would be the sixth offical Constitutional Proposal made during the fourteenth term of our game. These issues will be voted on before the next Shophet begins his term.

6) Other proposals, known as Strategic Proposals, which include such things as building construction and troop recruitment/allocation, can be made at any time during the course of the week. These will be voted on at the live debate (although a mechanism will be made available for those who cannot attend). The following format will be used for Strategic Proposals in the council.

Strategic Proposal 1.1 where 1 is the term of the Shophet, and .1 is the proposal number. So proposal 14.6 would be the sixth official proposal made during the fourteenth term of our game. These issues will be voted on before the next Shophet begins his term i.e. the 15th term of our game.

/End Constitution

Once again, a big thanks to Glenn and Boru in their help and insight with these initial rules. I did have to find a nice balance between what each desired, but I feel the final product is far superior to anything I would have came up with myself.

PS If anyone else has any concerns, please let me know.

That being said, it will take a logical argument for me to make any drastic changes.

@Malik of Sindh

I have to update my player list, so I'm not 100% certain where you are.

@Sassem

Was he one of the ones we assigned the other day via X-Fire....I can't recall.

On another note, Poulp' is experiencing technical problems and has reluctantly withdrawn, so we'll have to reassign Bomikar.

I have to install X-Fire on my desktop, as I've prepared that for online, so I can look over save files while we're in discussions. So just PM me here for now, and we'll finalize the avatars.

BTW, perhaps a more simplified form of your diagram might be helpful? It's your call, but it's a shame to let all of your hard work go to waste.

@everyone else

I have recieved 8 PMs. I assume Glenn and Boru are playing, although Sassem will still need the time available on Saturdays.

This is something like 12 inactives if we were to start right now, and 8 players is borderline for a senate type game. I hope the majority of the others still plan on joining.

Does any know how i can simplifield this

there a lot of no shows

i will look up to all the different post and if possible if something not clear to me i will x-fire them show i can fill in the OTO realtime

i still want to have the post right behind you

as for the buildings i will figure out something but it is paused for now

about the avatars i won't sign up any body anymore till the game starts there are to many people asking for one and then don't show up for a long time and i don't want to spend time in something that will not pay off

i think the best way is to start the game when you are ready and experience the whole thing im will be online for 1.5 hours then i go to bed it's 2300hrs here

Bootsiuv
10-21-2007, 22:20
Well....some players have posted quite regularly....we'll give them a little more time (1 day or so). Then we'll likely begin, as I know many are impatient to begin. I just want to make sure everything goes smoothly. I still have my doubts as to the live council meetings, but we'll give it a go. If it becomes too complicated, convoluted, or simply not enough getting done, we'll likely keep the meeting as a sort of 'informal discussion', but may revert to what seems to have worked best in King of the Romans, which is simply a council thread with something like 48 hrs of debate time. This will slow down the game, but may be required if only 4-5 are available at the same time for live councils.

This is why we need everyone's time online.

I have not posted in some time, this is because of the great activity that has been playing through my household.
I may be moving addresses very soon, and as such, with the amount of horses and baggage my family has, it is a large task.
The action itself will not be for some weeks yet however.

On reading the constitution, I find that the only reasons I have to argue with them are for my own personal interests, and therefore are those arguments invalid.
So I am ready to begin, immediately after I receive some technical adive on the following subject;
I have downloaded 1.0, and I installed Ferromancer's BI.exe mod, for the reason that I prefer only this mod in addition to EB itself.
The problem being, that I have not got a backup.
I did this because the mod has an uninstaller, so will it still be stable if I uninstall the mod, delete this map.rwm and install the S.S.BBQ mod?

My standard time in relation to Greenwich is GMT +10.
I am most usually on between 6:00pm and 9:00 pm on all days.
This is a very tight fit, but if I know a time for meetings and other things, I can attempt those hours.

I have already PM'ed Bootsuiv about this yesterday,

I will not be able to join the SSbQ anytime soon; EB 1.0 does not work (I can't understand why, 0.81 used to work just fine) and to make things worse my mouse's left click is broken. For now, I switched the left and right click, but ordering an army around is impossible.

As a consequence, I resigned from my post of govenor
That means a governor seat is open.
I changed my signature accordingly so that two people don't share one seat.
I'd like to be part of the senators for the time being.

Sorry to give you work Sassem

When things really bad happen to my comp, I save important things to CD and dump the entire thing. I usually do that at least 1 time a year. Perhaps you might consider that (assuming you know what you're doing, have the OS disc that came with your comp and/or you bought, etc.).

I don't think I saw this answered yet, but Spoofa's mod does not break saved games: I tried it myself, and had no problems. Almost all my cities went into negative growth, however, so at least the mod is working properly.

Bootsiuv
10-23-2007, 16:22
Yes, but the most important file to back up is the EBBS script....if something happens to that you either have to have someone send you an unaltered version or reinstall.

I don't foresee any problems, as I've been using his mod for two days, and no CtD's of any kind.

I have a few things to finish up today, such as our newest players senate positions, but most things are done.

So I am ready to begin, immediately after I receive some technical adive on the following subject;

Sorry, I didn't see this...

we arent using BI though, and I think that mod installs BI, so you'll have to take off the RomeTW-BI.exe part and just make it RomeTW.exe

but I think i used the same mod to get BI working, although I didnt install the EDU part because of course, its outdated, then again even if you did install the EDU my version would overwrite it so its fine.

These are some total succession game noob questions, so be gentle...

I assume it is correct (and probably advisable) to start a new game,
check out the situation, and consider the moves I would make. This
will be my guide in making proposals, and voting on the proposals on
the floor. Am I basically correct?

And in the future, I will use the posted save game?

Also, the motions will be voted on by chat saturday, excepting the Shophet
election? If I can't make it to the scheduled chat, is it possible to post
votes, or is it exclusive to Xfire chat?

Thanks...

edit: apparently, I can't spell Shophet on the first try.

1. Yes, probably a good idea.
2. Sure, you can download and peruse, but only the new Shophet will play the next term in game, along with any govs who have to fight battles.
3. Yes, you are right. You will be able to post your votes in the council thread if you are unable to make live chats.

Remember, there are no bad questions. Anyone, please, if you have any questions at all, I am here to help and guide you through our collective journey into the world of EB and ancient Carthage. Hello noble governor and future sophet Bootsiuv (Mago)! I installed all mod to EB 1.0 fresh copy and begin an SSbQ campaing to better use my influence in te senate, then it came to me that I do not know somethings:
Unt size - large or huge (which I preffer most);
Battle time limit or without time limit (which I preffer the most)
Manage all settlements?
Was force diplomacy considered in modifications? If not I advise we reconsider, after Ptolemais AI start attaking it cames almos every single turn.

Boru
10-24-2007, 18:12
@theorykid

I just wanted to chime in at your comment on starting a SSbQ game. To me i think it would detract from the anticipation of the game to play through a separate game as the SSbq. Now if you meant just load up the current game save and see whats happening then i am in total agreement. Well just thought i would throw that out there!:laugh4:

I apologize.

Unit size is large, unfortunately, as huge would limit our player base too dramatically IMO (I can barely run Huge myself, unless I turn graphics all the way down to near M:TW levels)

I usually play with a time limit, but I could easily do away with that...

Manage all settlements....no, this de-emphasizes the importance of governors IMO, and some governors will just have to travel to solve the problem.

@KuKulza....

Check our OP for the custom mod we're using....remember to back-up and I would place the files in individually, as it seemed to screw up my EB when I unzipped it directly into the R:TW folder.

@Boru

The first Shophet will start the save game....I am waiting to hear others nominate themselves. I know Spoofa wants to run, but he's been absent from the council hall up till now....3 nominees would be ideal though, and 4 would probably be the max we can have with the current player count.

@bootsiuv

Also is raising taxes to highest just assumed or do we need to petition that too? Not sure if i should even bother in council?

I would say tax limits are ultimately up to the Shophet, but the council is welcome to guide him in his actions.

Remember, the Shophet is NOT REQUIRED to carry out any proposals deemed fit by the council, but he'll have to explain why these conditions weren't met, and if the Shophet 'failed' in the councils eyes, he may have a hard time being re-elected.

I was going to include a rule which required the Shophet to follow council orders, but this isn't necessarily the best things for gameplay reasons. The Shophet must be able to adjust to changing in-game factors, and council meeting can't be called everytime he wants to raise taxes.

Will sophet fight battle while AI urn AI attacks? how will we manage that considering we can not save game during AI turn?

Bootsiuv
10-25-2007, 04:23
The game must be saved every turn....the player who is attacked, unfortunately, must send the turn before the AI attacked them, so the script can be activated.

This person is trusted to not change anything being built or recruited, they simply click a city, start the script, end the turn, fight the battle, and at the beginning of the next turn, they save the game and send it back.

This is the only way EB succession games will work due to the script in the background.

There is a flood rain assaulting my house at the moment, and in addition to this I am packing boxes and boxes of household items, for I am home by myself while my family works - preparing a moving of house.

So in between admiration of the storm and packing away with Django Reinhardt playing in the background, it has been great entertainment giving attitude and oration to Hanno.

Yet, I disclaim some of his comments on other players, but I cannot reflect my own views in the council thread, but those of my character!

So far, I do no care if I ever play a Shophet, it will suffice to orate and convince the Senate of Lepki's potential to be our capital city!

Bootsiuv, could you give a procedure in the first post of either thread, telling how to apply a savegame to your files so that you can play as a Shophet?
Also advise every necessary mod, fix, and player options.

In addition, decide on a difficulty level if this has not already been done.

Message to Glen: This thing ain't personal, it's just an in-character discussion, don't think even for a moment that I have something against you. I thought that by picking a fight on a subject I believe I'm right on would spice things up, as well as make it easier for me to argue my case, as opposed to arguing for something I don't believe in.

Sorry, bro, I didn't realize how hard up Ippone was until I opened the game....they at least need walls first, or we may lose it (as I had happen to me quite a few times in .8x).

I did not make this idea up, if anything, I merely attempted to introduce it to EB....although that isn't entirely true either, because there were those before myself, although I'm unsure if they ever got anything off of the ground.

Oh, and the creators of the Will of the Senate and King of the Romans games....I drew a lot of inspiration (and some direct help...thanks econ21!)from these two games, as they looked like a lot of fun!!

Apparently, they were! :laugh4:

But I am very glad you're enjoying yourself. I know I have enjoyed it immensely. For some dumb reason, pretending to be a 3rd century bc senator seems cool to me....and my girl lets me know how dorky I really am for that. :laugh4:

Sure they are beautiful, but they are not center of the universe, a place were things are happening, heck people have nothing to do, just swing their sling alot to produce the best slingers in the world.

And yeah, I must admit I knew about Ippone from prior games. The loose rebel stack always ends up assaulting Ippone with 6 or 7 numidian cavalry, the poeni militia don't stand a chance because of their light armor and Gisgo gets swamped. If you build walls they will starve you to death if you aren't quick enough to send reinforcements (yeah I dare you to try to sally against 6 or 7 units of numidian cavalry)

Best way is to send a force of good armored spearmen, besiege Kirta and let 'em come to you.

PershsNhpios
10-26-2007, 01:25
I heard somewhere that you swing your sling too much you'll go blind!

Soon I will make some more proposals to the Senate, and put my efforts in the different area of the empire.
But I think that everyone should review the current proposals often, and if you have anything that would need amending or removing, advise the Game Master so that we do not have a crowd of unwanted proposals.

I will return soon, to turn the ravens of Hadrumetum to stone and voice my support of a war in.. Numidia perhaps.

My dear Glenn, brilliant roleplaying there. What would be the fate of a Council of old men without a young voice of fire, eh? I'm having a great time bandying words with you. XD Mm, I've never played Qarthadast before. I didn't know the Numidians would've attacked, I thought they would stay in their own province, which was why I advised the defensive. Looks like Gisgo will be fighting soon if we ever get past this first turn's debate, eh?

The council thread will close in 15 mins. After which, I will peruse the final proposals and elimate any which are redundant.

I will then create a battle reports/stories thread, and an election thread.

On a related note, I've often wondered in the past week if my running for Shophet was unfair to other players. Clearly the organizer of the game will have an advantage, as all players have had dealings with me. Ultimately, I decided I would run, but would impose my own limitation.

So, I say this: If you feel most comfortable with me at the helm for the first term, then fine, vote for me.

That being said, do not underestimate the merits of the other two candidates. Both Spoofa and Boru have been instrumental in helping 'behind-the-scenes' and this game wouldn't be what it is without them. They are also well versed in the world of R:TW, and I would feel fine being led by either one.

On a final note, if I do win this term, I will not run the next term. I also will not annex the game, as I've thought of doing. This is no longer 'my' game, but the communities, and I will not save it from a 'slow death'. I will leave that up to our 20+ players. I am confident that someone will step up next term.

I am also scheduled to have a child next Thursday morning, so the week following might not be the best time for me time-wise.

Don't worry though, newborns are surprisingly undemanding, and my wife is a good mother, so I shant be gone for long (if at all, as it doesn't take but 10 mins to post here once a day, and newborns sleep 20 hours a day :laugh4:).

The point is, if I can find time between a 2 year old and work to play this game, I'm quite confident that something which hardly wakes up (and even then, hardly needs me, like I said, good mother) will interrupt my conquest too long.

Eight tomorrow morning.. hmm, my mornings are usually very productive as are my days, so night time is the easiest for me.
However I do not ask to change this, and in fact tomorrow morning is rather different from all, so I should be capable of attending.
It is 10.40 AM on the Saturday here.

As for what has been written in the Council thread, I don't disapprove of it because it offensive to Hanno, but because it isn't very appropriate for our era of roleplay.
Nor are the excess of smilies and bracketed actions, these make the posts look very messy and compared to the list of enobled speeches and charactery well thought of above - it makes for a very unsightly intermission...

Not to mention I don't know where you found a sheep's bladder in North Africa.

I hesitated to write this in case it would appear I was shamelessly defending Hanno out-of-character, but I simply found that to be very degrading to all previous posts in the thread, which our players put much effort into.

I also would like to know if my side-story on how Hanno spurred the Lepki populace was out of place in the story thread, as I added something similar to the beginning of the council thread.
I saw the rule that we may enhance our character there, and thought I might do so by showing what Hanno is doing in his province.
This by no means should be used as an argument against him when we return to the Senate, as no others would know of it.
It is written for the audience.

Finally, I would like to know both how we are going to handle adopted family members when they are offered in-game, and if the Senators and Governors can still converse casually in the council thread after the hearing is finished.

I think the latter very productive, and it would allow for non-official discussion of strategies, further player development and more vicious back-stabbing!

Bootsiuv
10-27-2007, 02:22
Yes, Glenn, as soon as the proposals are voted on, the council thread will be reopened, and we'll have time for free deliberation, before the next 48 hr period where our council-members shall once again be allowed to put forth formal proposals.

And you were right on in the story thread....I plan on doing one on Mago soon, nothing much....I just like to write....but please continue, as it's what it it there for.

And I will not make deals with provinces for bribed votes my friend. If Boru is most deserving of your vote based on his merits, very good then.

I'll vote Bootsiuv. I think it only fitting the first term should go to the founder. Of course, like the consular elections, past consuls may not run again for a period of x terms, and I think that's a good rule. What is the live meeting being held on>? I have no x-fire. And it would correspond to 6am sunday morning for me, so I'll have to set my alarm clock.

I wonder about the whole midnight thing as well that Glenn has raised. It is a nice idea, and as I see it, it shouldn't be a problem as long as the whole thing is in character, yes?

And about the sheep's bladder, we're Kart-Hadast, my goodness. Import-export is our business. Hardly a problem, we're the closest the ancient world had to Amazon.com.

And Congratulations Bootsiuv! The tavern barkeeper has a kid! Boy, or girl?

Bootsiuv
10-27-2007, 03:02
Boy.

Unfortunately friend, as of right now it looks like we're shooting for X-Fire....with MSN as a back-up. I have not required people give any other platform names because I've asked enough up to this point.

That being said....if we do experience troubles with X-Fire this week, we'll simply have to do standard council thread votes, and hold off on the live votes until a more stable platform can be found. Quite frankly, I've never heard of such things even being attempted, so I'm still not even certain we can pull it off.

I have been perusing the propositions for redundancy, and will provide an ammended list within a few hours time. All players unable to attend the live meeting will be given a period of 24 hours to vote on proposals in that thread. I prefer it to remain in character, but see nothing wrong in some playful badgering, assuming that remains in character as well.

It won't matter much, as I'll clearly mark the beginning of the next session with large, bold type, and I'll make the list of proposals available in post 2 and the first post of that session, for easy reference.

Well, that's about all for now.

A list of the finalized props can be downloaded HERE (http://files.filefront.com/Proposals+for+the+First+S0txt/;8897587;/fileinfo.html).

Proposals for the 1st term of Shophet Abib 272 - Abib 270

Constitutional Proposal 1.1 - [I, Gisgo, Governor of Ippone, do hereby propose] an amendment be added to the constitution requiring a second for any nominee for Shophet before he can be added to the list of those seeking the position.

Constitutional Proposal 1.2 [originally Strategic Proposal 1.11] – Elect a general (hence known as the Magistrate) who shares the Shophet's term.

Constitutional Proposal 1.3 [originally Strategic Proposal 1.11] - Allow the Shophet to nominate a Magistrate in times of urgent need.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Strategic Proposal 1.2 - I [Hanno, Governor of Lepki] would advise to see two levies made in each city of Iberia, in Corsica, in Sardinia, and in Lilybaeum.

Strategic Proposal 1.3 - The city of Lepki will be given the highest priority for construction of choice in the year 272 B.C.E.

Strategic proposal 1.4 – Peace with Epirus provided a payment for troubles caused [restitution] of at least 5.000 (10.000 is better) and Cartogaphy information.

Strategic Proposal 1.6 – building ports followed by the Construction priority to the economical growth of Karalis, Alalia and Lilibeo, by building trade centers, farms, and esecially mines in Karalis as soon as possible.

Strategic Proposal 1.7 – build a better port at Lilibeo to increase our trade value.

Strategic Proposal 1.8 - A small company of levies should be constructed by the cities of Kart-Hadast, Attiqa and Adrumeto, that can be kept between these three provinces.

Strategic Proposal 1.9 - For my province I [Gisgo, Governor of Ippone] would like permission and troops from the senate to move south of my city and take the region south of Ippone.

Strategic Proposal 1.10 - Along the lines of proposal 1.8 i say that roads be built in as many provinces as possible as this will allow the forces in proposal 1.8 to better defend out homeland from any threats that do come!

Strategic Proposal 1.11 - The fleet near Alalia should be the only one not disbanded with the first turn.

Strategic Proposal 1.13 - Constructing civilian ports where the local terrain allows it should have priority over all but the most urgent of needs.

Strategic proposal 1.14 - Encourage growth in Alalia and build up military facilities to support future operations.

Strategic proposal 1.15 - Concentrate all currently availible offensive forces on taking north-west Africa asap.

Strategic proposal 1.16 - Therefore I propose the building of walls in Bocchoris, Alalia, Karali and Ippone.

Strategic proposal 1.17 - Therefore I propose we raise taxes all over our glorious empire.

Strategic proposal 1.18 - I [Hamalcar, Governor of Lilibeo] must requesition the forces from Atiqa, along with one company of Numidian Cavalry from Kart-Hadast itself, to be sent on a voyage to sicily to bolster my forces there, before they sail though, I ask that we train one company of Dorki Leebi-Feenikim Mookdamim (Liby-Phoecians) in Aqita or Kart-Hadast to be sent along with them, to ensure victory.

Strategic proposal 1.19 - I [Hamalcar, Governor of Lilibeo] also ask that our elephants be kept in our service until at least after I have Syracusai.

Strategic Proposal 1.22 - Admiral Thero will be allowed to retain command over a fleet of 26 of our finest warships. All other fleets will be disbanded.

Proposal 1.25 - Take Kirtan,Siga,Lixus and Sala in Mauritania.

Strategic Proposal 1.26 was just too large, so ignore it, as I've decided it's more of a general guideline, and the same thing can be accomplished by voting for the proper proposals.

You'll still find it on the .txt file, but, like I said, ignore it, as I've decided it's simply too large to be considered one proposal, and the same will be accomplished by voting yay for certain proposals and nay for others.

I'm beginning to think that the live meeting, while useful perhaps for stategic discussion, may be somewhat pointless for voting, as it would be just as easy to write a numbered yes/no response in the council thread.

That being said, have this list handy for the meeting, as we'll just move forward as planned. If, as I fear, it's simply too complicated orgaizing 10+ people to get straight answers, we may still offer the live meetings for talk on strategies, etc., and all voting will be held on these boards.

Thanks for your time.

Don't worry, Pez...I'm glad you didn't get woken up....it was somewhat chaotic. It's fine though.

I may revise a few things regarding proposals, control of land, who controls recruitment etc.

I'm trying to find a balance between playability for the Shophet and interactivity for those who are just playing along.

I'm thinking of making a 2 proposal - per - province limit or something similiar to this, so as to prevent similiar things from happening in the future (I fear our young Boru may have not only felt a little overwhelmed, but also a little unclear as what to do).

It is not an easy thing, really. I'm glad we've encountered these things before are game began.

That being said, the First Term may be put back a few days, with a revised constitution being introduced which may put a limit on how many props are allowed, although I may attempt to give more control to individual governors, so that it feels more like a republic.

To be honest, I am STRONGLY in favor of allowing governors control over their cities forces, which so many seemed to be against when the fiery Hanno said he would not contribute forces to any war effort in Syracousai. I think it is easily represented in-game (if the gov says no troops for this or that, then no troops for this or that).

That being said, I'll likely not include such things because, as others have said, a huge fight could end our game (although it would add a new element to the cooperation of provinces IMO).

Hmmm, lots to say. I think the system we currently have will work well enough, given a few small constitutional amendments.

I think I've alread figured out how to resolve the issues raised today.

Governors need to be free to decide about their armies but the cities must be capable of paying for that armies if governors are to decide the fate of them. one member of the comunity, Konny, created a way to represent that by calculating how much of cities income could come to the republic and how much would stay for local powers, if you are interested , this would allow two kinds of armies, a local garisson and a republic one under the control of the magistrate of war appointed by senate in times of need

Thanks for your confidence though, friend.

Sorry I missed the meeting. Saturday is the day that me and my parents go out anyway so I kinda thought I would miss it anyway. So How was it?

A little chaotic to be honest, as I had foreseen...

I'm in the process of working on a revised constitution. I'll likely limit the number of props allowed per province, make the senator/governor relationship more important, try to increase governor power while maintaining playability, and a few other minor things.

Ok, first of all I'm sorry I couldn't attend the live meeting. Secondly, I'm sorry everyone voted "no" on 1.14. How could you ??!!! Thirdly, I'm sad that the noble Hasdrubal has not made my votes know to the councill, as I comunicated them to him the same day. Or are only those who attend allowed to vote ?

I also want to congratulate the new sophet, and may his wise rule bring benefits to us all.

Yes I know sorry but it was a little mess so i decided not to double post (vote) cause it was already a little bit confusing for our poor Boru  because he was (m)e(a)eting at the same time

I think the best way for not voting live is just to post Y/N with the proposal numbers in front of it

As for a new proposal system my opinion is

1 strategic proposal for buildings for your OWN city

And the BIG army movements the tactical proposals should be put up only by the governors with a max of 3 at the time and they has to be totally different like going north or east and will stay for at least 3 terms/6years before we can change it except for emergency's so that we don't have to discuss this every term

In other words the governor(s) and Senators of the same province has to talk to each other before they decide to post a proposal in the council for there city

It looks also less silly when you see disagreements between senators and governors from the same city in the council people have just to take more care for there own area in stead of that from others

Alright, fellas, just to inform you I am going back to the army camp for the week so as far as the Council is concerned I have gone back to Ippone to supervise my estates. I will not be back until Friday evening. However, I might get some time off on Tuesday and Thursday evening to come back home where I have access to the Org (my phone internet browser cannot process php), so I may be able to make a speech or two now and then. But that's not a guarantee, depends on whether my commanders want to give the company the night off, so let's just assume I won't be back till Friday evening for now. It'll be my last five-day absence from the Council, so no worries!

Yeas it was assured before since it will be dificult to have such meetings whit everyone! So, shall we vote or not? Shall the first rounds wait for the new constitution and new proposals?

I think Boru said he wanted to start anew. I have to talk to him today. Regardless, it probably won't take him that long to play 8 turns....assuming there are no battles, he could realistically finish his term in like 45 mins.

I'll speak with him later, and we'll decide what we want to do.

Sorry for the confusion. As I've said before, this process is essentially as new to me as it is to you, so I'm ironing out problems as they're encountered.

I must apologize for the delay. Boru and I were discussing rules yesterday, and I was supposed to eat dinner and retun online.

However, my wife was having pains, so I took her up to the hospital to be safe. False Alarm, apparently.

So, once again, I do apologize for the delay. This week might be a little hectic for me, but this weekend things should be getting back to normal. I ask that you bear with me, and we'll likely do an accelerated term next, so we can stay close to schedule.

Don't worry guys....I think Boru and I have developed a system which will prove much funner for our govs.

Stay tuned....

I've been looking into our own private forums, with the help of our Shophet, Boru.

I'm setting it up right now, and I will provide a link to the site when it's up and running.

This will give us many more options, as we now control an entire forum. Elections can now be done by poll, and we don't have to worry about hogging up EB's forum space. It only takes a second to register, so I do hope all players will join us there.

To those who just like to read along, it won't be private to view, but posting will be prohibited to players in the game, except for the general comment thread, which will be open to anyone.

I'm also going to create a zip file which contains all of the 'official fixes' we may need, including the disaster fix, and the unofficial client sally fix.

Busy, busy. :beam:

Stay tuned....

Great job Bootsiuv. I think ya'll are doing extremely well. I just hope I can keep up to standards, but I'll have so much more time after this week, it'll just be awesome, and I'll be able to do more stuff.

Great...this week is a little for metoo. I do hope you'll be active....remember, activity will grant governorships.

So if you want a province to call your own, activity is good.

Guys,

Just wanted to chyme in and say that I was one of the people reading along. Obviously a lot of people are because this thread has a ridiculous amount of hits for a topic that has been up for two weeks.

I hope you keep the game on this forum! After all, you are using EB to play the game and they set up an AAR forum to encourage this sort of thing. I was looking forward to screenshots and story updates. Brilliant characters guys...Looking forward to seeing these rivalries develop.

Nice work getting it off the ground! But won't you attract more new players and a bigger audience by keeping the game here?

Well, I thank you for reading along with us. Why not join, and take ten minutes of your time every few days to play along?

Anywhoo, I would keep the game here, but there are a few caveat's which make a private forum favorable.

1. I don't have mod powers here, and I find them useful.

2. In reality, I would like 7-10 threads for this game, with polls every week. That would simply hog up too much of this forum, and I don't want to take away from the wonderful stories of others.

That being said, I do plan on doing a 'history of' thread here, where I'll link to various events, so lurkers can read along.

Also, there will be a link in the OP of this thread, and anyone is welcome to come and view, but only players will be able to post in most threads.

I will have a general comment thread open to everyone, so I do hope you'll continue to read along. Having these kinds of options may make for a more enjoyable game, and I do hope to have 30+ players eventually....right now we're sitting at about 10 very active, and another 7-8 pretty active, with 2-3 who hardly post at all.

This is really not a big deal, guys. It's a game. Why not join in? It's not like it will take that much of your time. Surely, you can sacrifice a few minutes every other day.

Well, I am fully for the separate forums. Definitely a lot better than a chaotic voting procedure. Even the Roman mob had voting queues. :D Just give me the URL, and I'll register as soon as I can! Like, Thursday or Friday evening.
