View Full Version : Query - taking back a settlement you've given away
i know that if you (re)capture a settlement that you gave away, you get a massive rep hit.
does this apply irrespective of it having changed hands since?
(e.g. give settlement to pope, nasty faction captures it from pope, if i recapture from nasty faction, is that ok?)
how about if you just buy the settlement from the third party?

I went through just this in my Danish AAR. If the settlement has changed hands you can take it back without a reputation hit by force or with cash. In fact you can buy/trade it back from the original faction, if they'll agree, with no problems.
However, nothing else changes the circumstances. Even if the nation you gave it to declares war on you, is subject to a crusade, is two hundred years older and has completely different nobles on both sides, etc. it doesn't matter, you will eat the reputation hit when you attack.
IMHO the best way around this is to use spies to force the city to rebel. If it's a castle you gave away arrange for a different faction to capture it via crusades or other manipulation and then take it from them.

cheers, that's good news.

as everything you do is geared up towards ultamatly taking out them before thet do you does it really matter how good or bad your reputation is?
old popy is a different matter but even then so what

so ... i find it more fun playing a high rep style? blitzing is incredibly tedious.
They need to remove the ability to blitz, I cannot resist the urge.

If they took out the ability to blitzkrieg, how many copies of the game do you think they would sell? Isn't it entirely reasonable for Scotland to conquer the west and middle east in 150 years or less? After all they are Scots!
When the gunpowder finally come I'm already so powerful I don't even bother to construct the gunpowder buildings; as well as that the elite units tend to get used in maximum a battle or two before the campaign is won.

You can just edit the descr_strat file yourself. Award yourself 0 cash and just one or two militia in each settlement from the start. Done

I could make there be fully garrisoned enemy settlements around my capital, but I'm to lazy to the edit the descr_strat each time I start a new campaign. ~;)
(I have a feeling a few simple edits wont be enough)
