I was jsut looking htough some old CDs I had found, and one turend out to have pics of my familys dogs on it, so I thought I'd start this thread, something which has long bismirched the frontroom by its absence, imho.
anyway, my very mongrel dog Tess, (I know, hopelessly unimaganitive:sweatdrop: )

The last is a rather poor picture, but at the same time captures her character very well, I think.
Now I am at university I miss my dog so much ~:mecry:. Still I will be going home next week at least.
Also, a couple of pictures of my Granny's now sadly dead dog:

I think she had more joy in life than any other being human or animal I have ever met, which is a very great shame as she died slowly (if probably painlessly) after being run over and getting a broken back.
Ohh, and I can give you high res if anybody happens to want them for some strange reason.
So, lets see what other prized pets my fellow orgers have!
Those dogs look adorable.
:smitten:
Here's an old image of my dog, Lexi, which can suffice for now.
https://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l182/Hepcat_2006/AllPictures078.jpg
I'll get some better pictures of her in the next few days when I have more time, as well as the cat and birds too.
Oh and the second dog looks similar to my Grandmother's dog called Benji, which she got from the RSPCA and who passed away 2 years ago.

Harry the black cat, who's waiting to be fed at the moment, and Sally who's sadly deceased. They weren't normally that cute they were normally chasing each other, but it reminds me I need to find him a new 'girlfriend'.

Would be a nice change to all the cats and dogs (which I like, too).

"Snag", Mrs. Kukri's beloved cat chased off raccoons from the yard one night - and while pursuing them, ran into a pair of Rottweilers, and his demise. Mrs. K. was unconsoleable for months.
Then, out of the blue, this fellow showed up on our back-porch one afternoon - a dead ringer for Snag, except for his skinnier tail. We fed him, and he's hung around now for almost 6 months. We call him "Spike", because he was built like a boxer (all upper body muscle) when he first arrived. 5+ months on, he's fattened up a bit. Mrs. K's grief has abated since Spike arrived, so I'm grateful.

p.s. Sorry for yet another cat R'as; I look forward to seeing thebirds and reptiles of members, too.

Great dogs (and kids... :beam: ) Lemur. Pugs are adorable, \ after our Great Dane died a two years ago it was the only dog my mom would even consider getting. However, since the rest of the family will only consider another Great Dane we're still dog-less. And sadly we'll probably be for some time.

Wouldn't be so good if it decided to sit on your lap though, and probably quite expensive to take to 'vets' - I recommend you get a cat (or Jaguar :laugh4: )

Ah , i have only had two pets in my life, my first one ( a dog ) got run over by a tractor ( i saw the whole thing happen ) my second one ( a rabbit ) died the night i got it:thumbsdown: ~ .
My sister is the only one who owns a pet now ( a dog ).

Sigurd writes that he talks to his Volvo - therefore he must have named it? Or is that too personal a question?:beam:
I used to talk to my 20-year old Honda Civic: "C'mon old girl, we hafta get to work today; please start this morning... pleeeeeeeeeez."
Volvo's are exceptional cars with great curves, no harm in letting them know that.

Hey Fragony, did you steal my cat and rename it Nero?
Meet Her Royal Highness Fish The Third (Fish for short). The third cat I have called Fish, hence The Third.
https://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a242/SlugForAButt/Image028.jpg
And I have to disagree with your assessment of Volvos. As a motorbike rider I see them as bike killers pure and simple, speak to most of the biking fraternity in the UK and they'll say the same. Those wipers on the lights are really only there to get rid of the prams, dogs and motorbikes that are stuck to the front of the car. ~;)
Holy crap I saw the picture first and wanted to post the exact same thing. Do you happen to be a beautifull blond women?

Umm... no. :shame:
But I still need to know the truth. Is Fish/Nero living some kind of X-Files double life? Fish even does that exact pissed off, annoyed look and stance like Nero does (just not when I need her to for the camera obviously).
EDIT: I told my wife that Fish had started going into our neighbours house and that I had got a picture of her in the neighbours kitchen. I showed her the picture you posted and she giggled and said "She's a little bugger isn't she?", she thought it WAS our cat. That's how much that pic you posted looks like The Fish.

This rather odd, because both your cats are the spitting image of one I had when I was alot younger, I'll see if I can't find an old photo to upload...When I say spitting image I mean down to the small white slash on the nose
Umm... no. :shame:
Well at least you are honest about it, more should do that. Does Fish happen to be toally awesome? Nero is the funniest cat I ever had, completily nuts. 12 years old now, someone should tell them that.

Yeah, she's easily the most bizarre cat I have had. Everything from jumping IN the bath with me (curiosity I suppose) to letting me carry her around in a plastic bag with her head sticking out the handle with lots of other weirdness in between.
Ok, if fish is also highly expressive, and you immediatly can see her mood then I think that settles it, they are twins.

Damn... this just gets stranger and stranger. :inquisitive:
It seems we are victims of some kind of Worldwide Cat Cloning Conspiracy, there's got to be international laws against this sort of thing?
The W.C.C.C. it's got a ring to it, it's got a name to it, so it must exist. And I'M A VICTIM. ~:mecry: . Noone ever warned me about this when I got a cat.
I'd get a dog next time, but it would sound stupid if I called a dog "Fish".

Haha, a Kea, I wish. If I had one I'd train it to terrorise my brother and destroy or steal stuff from his room. :laugh4:
Sorry, I completely forgot about this. We did have doves, quails and finches. Until, after my parents took over the job of feeding the birds, they starved them and the avairy was littered with bird carcases. :bigcry:
I was not happy with them for that. So now we just have quails but are getting some more doves, and from now on I will be looking after them, not my parents. I felt really depressed after they murdered the birds, I had the doves domesticated too, I was able to handle them and they didn't mind at all. There was even one baby finch who I trained to hop on my finger. :cry2:
Anyway, I'll stop blubbing and get you some photos of the new quails anyway tomorrow (it's 11:33pm at the moment and they'll be sleeping), though they aren't spectacular and the avairy looks pretty empty with just them in there.
But for now you'll just have to settle for a picture of our damp doormat:

@Hepcat the damp doormat is gorgeous
@Banquo's Ghost - that's typical cat, wave new £££ toy at them and they'll ignore you entirely, an odd reflection, shadow (or in my Harry's case empty cardboard box) and they're off in their own little world of fun & games....
Well as promised, I took some pictures of the birds today:

https://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l182/Hepcat_2006/TWF/b81734c5.jpg
And as you can see they've been busy since they've arrived. :nice: There are some eggs although I'm worried they laid them far to close to the edge of the avairy since the dog likes to site and watch them from that side, so she may scare the quails away from the nest:
https://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l182/Hepcat_2006/TWF/bd75f650.jpg
And seeing as the dog was dancing circles around me when I had the camera in my hands she obviously wanted another picture. *sigh* She's such an attention seeker.
https://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l182/Hepcat_2006/TWF/84bedfd4.jpg
@Makanyane That's what everyone says. And I think it's that kind of attitude that's given her a big opinion of herself and why she goes hyperactive around people. So whenever visitors arrive she leaps up and bounces around in front of them as if to say "I'm here! I'm here! Don't worry, I know you really want to play with me! Look at me! I know I'm so cute aren't I! Over here! Oh you're such a tease pretending to want to talk to the other people in the house! Look at me! ..." etc. until somebody starts acknowledging her. ~D
On that last picture she looks like a very happy dog. :2thumbsup:
It's a very nice picture, partly because she looks so bright, as if she were glowing. :laugh4:

Are those two different kind of quails or just male/female? Their feather coat seems to be different. Flightless birds are always on the watch but since a dog is not a natural enemy for NZ endemic birds it could work with the nest. You could also try to move it a bit? How would they react to that? Or you could put up a piece of wood so that the dog can't stare into the nest for hours.
I'd love to have aviary like yours.
:laugh4: Have you ever heard of a pet Kea? Just curious but I doubt they can be controlled.
No I haven't. But I'm sure if I got a baby Kea it'd be possible to train it. Though I don't think people are allowed to have them as pets cause they're endangered. I've never actually seen a wild Kea, only ones in captivity cause I've never been to the South Island.

No they weren't green finches, I think they were zebra finches. Or at least this looks like them:

And our doves were all beautiful white doves, apart from a wild dove that my brother caught (not harming it in anyway of course). That one was brown, I think called a Ringneck dove.
Very much appreciated.
No problem.

They're all brown quails, though the males are black with white on their face and the females are just brown.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_Quail
I don't want to move the nest because my grandfather told me years ago never to try touch a nest with eggs in because often the mother bird will abandon it. Although the mother quail is still sitting on the nest, I checked today so I don't know. Maybe they'll hatch, or maybe they won't. I'm not sure I want to try stick a wooden board against the side of the cage either though cause I wouldn't want a gust of wind knocking it over onto the nest. If they do hatch I'll be sure to post pictures cause baby quails are always very cute, especially the way they trail around behind the mother in a long line. :nice:
As to loving to have an avairy like ours, I don't really know why. My grandfather built the avairy for us more than a decade ago, and supplied many of the birds that have lived in it, because he used to run a pet store. It really isn't anything special. I'm sure you could build one at your place. It wouldn't be hard.
So where does your knowledge of NZ birds come from? Do you have some birds to show?
That dog is absolutily adorable, but isn't NZ a bit warm for husky's?
Yeah, she does get a bit hot during summer. But she malted solidly and lost all the excess fur from winter in about 3 days. Our living room looked like the dog had exploded in it. There was fur everywhere. And she isn't a husky, she's a samoyed :2thumbsup:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samoyed_%28dog%29
My parents have always kept samoyed dogs since before I was born. Which is why when we had a Labrador about 7 years ago it was my dog and they expected me to look after it.
Never heard of those before, seems like their nick 'smiling dog' is well earned. Awesome unit.

No they weren't green finches, I think they were zebra finches. Or at least this looks like them:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zebra_Finch
Ah, yes. I had some of them when I was around 14. They even reproduced. I remember that we first had them in a huge cage together with an elderly pair of budgies. The finches were so hyperactive that we had to put them seperately.
And our doves were all beautiful white doves, apart from a wild dove that my brother caught (not harming it in anyway of course). That one was brown, I think called a Ringneck dove.
We've some ringnecks visiting our garden frequently. This is how they look here (Germany): http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild:Wood.pigeon.2.arp.750pix.jpg They're very intelligent animals. This is not your common street pigeon btw. They don't eat trash but only seeds etc.
This is another species we sometimes see: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild:Collared.dove.jpg
A few weeks ago I caught a ringneck (wood pigeon) who seemed to be injured. I'd observed him for a few hours. He didn't fly but only walked on the ground. He held one wing in an unusual way. I then decided that I need to know exactly what's up. I've never caught such a large bird before. Of course he tried to evade me. My fiancee assisted and I finally caught him using a blanket. We immediately drove to a vetenarian nearby but it turned out that the shoulder part of the wing was completely destroyed and all bloody. There was nothing to be done for him anymore. He had to be put to sleep. If he had stayed outside with the broken wing he would've fallen prey to a cat (from whom he got the injury in the first place) or been driven over by a car (big street nearby). I was very sad that I wasn't able to help. I would've taken care of him without second thought.

I'm not allowed to have any pets at the flat where I live now. But maybe in the future. I'm not yet convinced that I would want to, seeing that they can't really fly well in most aviaries. So, I don't have any birds to show atm. I could only link to the variety of wild birds we have in the garden.
I was in NZ in 2003 for 5 weeks and I will return in April 2008 for a longer stay, maybe even for very long. I've been growing up with birds, my mother always had budgies etc. Ornithology is a kind of hobby and I always strive to extend my knowledge. When I was in NZ I also went to Wellington's Kaori Bird Sanctuary. I took pictures of a North Island Robin and a Tui while there. In other parts I shot pictures of seagulls, sparrows, fantails and others. Most of them are still on analog film.

It are main coons, pocket lions. They can become huge, Picasso is almost a meter long when stretched and is now just 2 years old.
Those cats are really beautiful Fragony. ~D 7 cats is quite a lot. I've only ever had 5 cats for a little while and that was because my cat had kittens and my parents didn't want to take responsibility for them so they had to live in my room and I had to look after them.
Though Brutus looks really odd with a tail because he's the same colouring as my cat, who doesn't have a tail.
R'as al Ghul:
This is what I meant sorry, not a wood pigeon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ringneck_dove
That's quite a sad story. I'm rather ashamed to admit that there are a few bird killers in our house. Firstly my parents, and secondly the worse one is my cat. Though fortunately she is getting too old and fat to keep catching them. She used to kill the pukeko chicks and then dump the carcasses on the front door step so we'd have to dispose of them quickly before anyone saw them.
And then the poor mother pukeko at the park across the road from our house could be seen walking about calling out for the baby birds. ~:(
Also we have a few birds which have been here quite a while. There is one tui which is usually found in the kowhai tree at the front of our house. We get pleanty of sparrows and there is one fantail who actually likes to fly into our house from time to time when we leave the sliding door open, he flys into the living room, then the kitchen then the living room again. Goes *meep-meep* and then flys back out the sliding door again. Also he often flys around people when they are in the back yard meeping at them. ~D I can't get a photo though because he never stays still.
Actually once the laptop is back I'll upload a photo of the picture hanging on the wall of when my parents' first Samoyed called Cassie had puppies. I think I was 3 at the time so I don't remember them but the professional picture of them on the wall is really cool.
Well I finally got my hands on the digital camera again because my mother had taken it to the shop. So I took a photo of the photo hanging on the wall of Cassie's puppies. And I was mistaken, I think I was only 1 when they were sold or I might not even have been born because the photo was taken in 1988, I've never actually asked my parents about when they sold the puppies. Also maybe this post will reinvigorate this topic and other members will post. Because I'm sure there are pleanty of other pet owners on the forum.
Anyway, I'll stop blabbing so everyone can go goo-goo over the puppies.

Sorry for the poor quality of my photo, it was 12am so the lighting isn't that great and the photograph on the wall is a bit old as well.

If you think 7 cats are too many, then you've never heard of the famous bookshop here with near 30.

Goo-goo!
My uncle has had samoydes for as long as I can remember. I think I might even have a few pictures somewhere. I'll look later.

That doesn't surprise me. I think most people who've owned a samoyed once always own one. They are very gentle, good with kids, can pull sleds if needed to, absolutely adorable, clever, loyal and full of life. In my house there are 2 types of pictures on the wall: family photos and dog photos.
I hope you find those pictures. I never see many other samoyeds.
My parents had puppies before they had kids (gee that sounds odd :sweatdrop:) and I've grown up with samoyeds and our dog at the time I was born often watched over me when I was a toddler while I was playing outside as if I were her own. :laugh4:
She died when I was 10, hit by a car just a little way away from our house and some of our neighbours brought her to us the next day (because everyone knows our dog). So she was buried in the back yard and we planted a small tree where she was buried and I helped my dad make a white cross to put up over her resting place.
It's odd how we can become more attached to pets than some of our friends and family. For example, I could write a full length biography of each of the dogs we've had but would struggle with writing one about my younger brother. ~D

Thats a nice looking samoyed. It reminds me of Caspar who is grandfather of Lexi (our current samoyed), but he had to be put down 2 years ago when he couldn't walk anymore.
The name sounds quite interesting. Dumpy? Surely there's a story behind that name. :laugh4:

It has to be said I feel the same, but I don't see anything wrong in it, or even strange.
Afterall, how can you not feel that way, when they look to you for everything in life, are the most loyal and devoted creatures on the planet, who would never, ever, ever betray or hurt you? Any human you have a relationship with will always cause you pain of some sort, but a dog never will, because unlike humans they are not selfish, they do not need anything from you but you, if that makes any sense. A human will always be expecting you too live up to their own image of you, but a dog is perfectly content with you as you are.
Anyway, thats what I think.
God, I hate being a uni.
Everybody is so shallow and vulnerable, desperately trying to live up to the image that they imagine everybody wants them to be. Humanity is so pathetic. And they don't let you have dogs in the halls. Not that I could have one here, I would never be able to give it any sort of a life, whilst I am still in education.
But I miss my dog. :bigcry:
Anyway, as I said before, how old are those pups in the picture?
2-3 months?
Sorry for taking so long to respond I've been busy recently and forgot to reply to this topic, I've just gotten home from my French exam (my last exam forever :birthday2:)
Yeah, I think that's a rather good reason why pets become as much a part of the family as a sibling.
And, to finally answer your question, the puppies were 6 weeks old at the time of that photo.
