I haven't played BKB's Supermod, but the differences would be the campaign map layout, the factions, units and the way religion is dealt with.
In BKB's Supermod, depending on which era you start from, there will be different provinces. In Early, there are provinces such as Iceland, while if you started from other eras, they might not be in.
I recall something about Jewish units for the game, although I'm not sure if there is a Jewish faction, or if the unit just has the word 'Jewish' in it.
Some of the factions differ to XL, as in factions like the Welsh (which you don't get in XL). Different colours, flags, etc. Probably some different units.
There is sufficient difference for both to be well worth it, though. You could check the Engineer's Guild, because there are threads for both mods there.

The BKB Super Mod has a Jewish Master Merchant agent unit available to a few factions but I've never built one so I'm not sure what they do.
The Super Mod has more new units overall, but both mods use the maximum possible in any one game (or what was thought was the maximum at the time). The Super Mod has three different maps, one for each campaign game, so GA mode isn't possible. XL uses the same map so you can use GA mode if you wish.
The Super Mod also has some extra buildings, e.g. Axesmith. A lot of the new units/factions appear in both mods but with different artwork/animations.
Although they cover the same ground, they are both excellent and in my view sufficiently different to warrant playing both.
Both are totally different to each other. Why don't you try them out?
If you have the hard disk space you need only copy your MTW installation directory twice to give you three MTW installs. Rename the other two to something obvious and then install each mod to one of the two new folders. You can then create new desktop shortcuts to play XL or BKB and leave the existing one, vanilla, as is.
How big is BKB? I mean download size.

231.3 MB I believe.

Once I manage to get my hands off EB I'll spare some disk space to install XL, BKB, Pike & Musket and NTW. Well, I may have to wait for my second HD to try them all but you get the point. :clown:

I currently have 6 mods installed and I need to make room for at least two more including Ancient Total War and Dark Ages, when it's finished. I can't even find room for NTW or P&M which is a pity but something's got to give.
