There's a crash to the desktop bug the crashes me every time I press the "end turn" button. This game has frequent crashes to the desktop; I knew this was coming sooner or later. It kind of sucks because I wish I had seen this campaign through.

I was able to resolve it by rebooting the computer.

...wow. That was anticlimactic. If that fails in future, try backtracking a few years, loading from an earlier savegame, and continuing again.

Had the same problem. Rebooting didn't help, so i started form another savegame and was able to pass. Unfortunately i'm in the similar situation again. ~:mad

Those repeatable end-CTDs often result from script problems. The best way to get past them is to run this single AI turn without the script and turn it on again on your turn. I don't think that rebooting really can help it (unless there is something seriously wrong with your PC). I think that by random the event that caused the CTD (by a rebellion, a character spawning on a somehow illegal position, or whatever) did not occure after you had rebooted the PC.
