in the campaign games (vanilla version) when i merge units, sometimes the new unit has a significantly larger number. (i play medium size so infantry is 80) but sometimes it is 107. any idea why?

well, lets say you have a unit of hastati(80) if you are facing the gauls for example they will have 121 somtimes for some reason. SO if you are facing the gauls, they might had some losses in that unit of 121.Hope this helps:2thumbsup:

If you have unit of hastati for example with 107 men on large u-size in vanilla (unmodded) - it doesnt matter whom you are fighting - it is bug.

Hi guys,

I know this isnt strictly on topic, but maybe someone can help. Im playing a campaign with huge unit sizes vh/h, but having some trouble with the (opponent) AI. Its just draining the population out of all the settlements it controls by recruiting and not waiting for them to be big enough to grow etc. Is this a common issue or does somone know a way around it to make the AI behave more sensibly? Is there a cheat to start all settlements as minor cities or something?

I just want an opponent capable of giving me a proper fight :help:

Anyway, grateful if anyone can help.

Thanks,

you can add population to cities in descr_strat.txt (+ increase settlement levels if needed) (data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign..)

or better just set on large unit size to reduce pop-drawing effect.

ps. lol if you'd registered as Cambyses II :laugh4:

Thanks Charge,

I'll give that a go. I just love the huge unit size battles, as it seems you really need to think about where you put your troops.

I guess it would have been tough to program the AI to train loads of peasants in large cities and disband them in towns... :idea2:

Anyway, cheers.

And yeah, kinda suprised this nick hadnt been taken before...

ok you going to do this.. (in case never modded before)

settlement
{
level city
region Macedonia

year_founded 0
population 6000
plan_set default_set
faction_creator macedon
building
{
type core_building governors_palace
}
building
{
.......

for example Thessalonica, you cant place 24000 men in town (it will be cutted automatically to ~5000 or so, cant remember), unless make it higher city level which is

building
{
type core_building governors_palace
}

and

level city

simply change bolded part to appropriate
variations on core_building/level which are:
none - village
governors_house - town
governors_villa - large_town
governors_palace - city
proconsuls_palace - large_city
imperial_palace - huge_city

make backup before changing in any case

we have certain member here which likes to change his username to Cambyses II sometimes ~D

While we're at it, does unit size affect the duration/speed of battles? For example, if I pit two units of hastati together, does the fight last longer if I set the unit size to 160 men than if I set it to 40 men? Or do individual men in large unit sizes just die faster?

There is one slight change in battles relating to charges - especially ones involving cavalry. On smaller unit sizes, the units which are being charged into are not as adept at absorbing them. This is due to their lines being overall thinner. Due to this, the charges generally take out a slightly higher percentage of the unit.

Ahh. I thought generals were overpowered but that was just me playing on small/normal unit sizes.

??
On huge they should be even more powerful, as more % from enemy unit dying from charge (first line) (though where did you hear about charge in vanilla? that 'peasant with dagger' value??)
