I know in descr_character you can mod what each type of character can do but could you add a new type altogether?

What do you mean, like another kind of assassin or spy? Or a completley new agent all together, like a trader or something?

AFAIK, the three basic agent types are Spys, diplomats, and assassins. I dont think it is possible to add a new agent type.

I'm sure you can't - also test carefully if you are trying to change abilities in descr_character.txt, it looks like you can change a lot of abilities in there but most don't actually have any effect! (I've tried removing ability to bribe and ability to build watchtowers in the past, and that didn't work :embarassed: )

True, annoying that - and do not swap the skeletons either :)

they are even still "dummy-tags" in M2 ... probably used to build the engine or some legacy or something like it

Another quick thought as I read this...

Can you edit out some agents and give the abilities to just one type of agent?

example... remove the spy and the assassin, and give the spying/infiltration and assassination/sabotage abilites all to the diplomat? I always thought that would be useful not having so many agents all over the place.

I don't think so - because as stated above trying to change the agents abilities in descr_character.txt doesn't seem to actually work. You can try it to test it but it didn't seem to work when I tried.
