So, I see these "evolved" Pezhetairoi on the EB main page, but i'm currently running a Mak campaign and haven't seen them. I also don't see anything about Makedonian reforms in the FAQ. please advise.

There is a reform, of sorts, needed to get them. You need to trigger the vanilla Marian reforms, which happens when any one of the cities in central Italy (Arretium, Capua, Ariminium, and maybe one or two others; someone else can probably tell you exactly which ones) reaches 'huge' size.Quote:

It is. Get that vanilla Marian reform and a lot of things will happen. The Maks will get Hysteroi, the KH will get Phalangitai, the Baktrioi will get Hetairoi Kataphraktoi, the Pahlava get their Grivpanvar...anymore others, guys?
Pontos gets their new heteraoi bodyguards, and Armenia gets the Cata bodyguards
Wow, the unit looks stunning!:dizzy2: Btw the Hypaspitai unit description says that they later used mail instead of bronze plate, do they appear as a reformed unit for Makedonia after vanilla Marians?
No, they stay the same. As do the Macedonian Pheraspides, who already wear chainmail at the start of the game.Quote:

...or something like that.
For the Hysteroi Pezhetairoi?Quote:

And, remember that the Vanilla Reforms can be triggered by cheating using: add_population <city name> <number>
No, what I mean is what changes will happen for the Hypaspistai / Pheraspides in 1.1, if you on the team already know.Quote:

The problem is that of the fact that virtually all sources (beyond archeology, but therein lies the problem that archeology so far has yet to supply us with some sufficiently detailed inscription or sth.) are basically outsiders commenting on the military.
It's like you are going to write an essay on the US army: you probably know there are tanks, and planes and ordinary people with guns, and ordinary people without guns, and some odd people you don't really know much about - yet do appear to play some vital role in the whole part. And you don't happen to have some contacts in the US military who can tell you all about it, so you got to go by what little you do know about them.
You can guess just how well versed, and detailed your account is going to be regarding those special guys you don't really know the first thing about... ~:)
Same with the hypaspistai, or more accurately the various 'deratives'.
In a weird twist of fate, I found this one on the net...Quote:

As you see there is this amazingly beautiful evolved boetian helmet along with some mail found in what was Yugoslavia...
Does that ring a bell? :idea2:
Hmmm...
I saw a Hysteric Pezhatairoi wandering the streets of Singapore not too long ago. Drunkenly mumbling something about "Lorica Segmentata".
Strange indeed. Is this what you were talking about? He was dressed rather strangely.
:inquisitive:
Ok... :book:
This is how EB depicts Hysteroi (evolved) Pezhetairoi

from the description...
This is what the faction of that link readsQuote:
Gone was the single greave and fully bronze shield, not to mention the linothorax. They were replaced with mail armor and a wooden composite (plywood) shield of similar strength but far less weight.

This mail shirt looked like this...Quote:
IMPORTANT HELLENISTIC IRON HELMET OF BOEOTIAN TYPE, WITH A CHAIN MAIL SHIRT FOUND INSIDE

Of course, the known Pezhetairoi from Singapore has every right to mumble something about Lorica segmentata. I support him every step of the way!
I have to wonder though, how much longer till another LS thread?
10 days til April!!Quote:

Hey, does anybody know if the Hysteroi Pez will be more widely available than the regular Pez. the description says that the Maks started adopting non-hellenes into their numbers.
According to the RV, yes. Go RV!
OK, I see Tellos.
They are already more widely available.Quote:

Oh...
They are pretty much everywhere you'll want to go. The only other phalangite units that come close are the Pandas and the KH Phalangites.Quote:

Hmmm. I always thought Pandas had the biggest.
Well, the Maks can´t recruit the Klerks in all that many areas for some reason.
Probably because that wasn't their area in the first place? If they had gone in there and taken over the kleroi would not be as widespread as it would appear.
Now one interesting thing would be if you could link training of klerouchoi to the building of Kleroi. So if you have the right MIC without the Kleroi, you can only build Pandas/Deuteroi/Pezzies. Once you have Kleroi, voila! Instant soldiers.

All these provinces+Baktra.
You can set it for klerouchoi to be trained from the Kleroi building. I use them as settlemant garrisons only and say that they are only drawn from their homes if the settlement is under siege.Quote:
