Map Size Limit?

I know that there is a limit on provinces in the campaign but is there a limit to the dimensions of the map itself?

1021 x 1021 map_heights.tga
510 x 510 map_regions.tga

is the absolute max size

also the bigger you get the more problem you have with seas.... it doesn't like large continuous areas of sea.

I meant in terms of movement points - sorry but I can''t think in relative pixel values!

erm, sorry but that version of the question isn't making any sense to me!

movement points are adjustable and anyway don't often work as the crow flies, so I don't think you can get an answer in terms of 'x times moves across map'.

also adjusting the movement points doesn't mean you can have a larger map, the pixel limitation for the tga's seems to be an absolute one regardless.....



If you meant the limit to the max length of movement - I don't know it - someone else asked recently and no-one had answer so we just suggested he experiment!

Oh right. So there is no conversion rate that 1 pixel = x mps?

You could I suppose work one out - check descr_characters.txt to see what starting action points are set at. Decide who you think has just the starting points (I'd assume infantry unit without general, is probably on that, with bonus / restriction applied to cavalry / siege units)

Park that unit on bit of land you know to be just plain fertile ground_type (hills, woods and swamp all slow movement - roads speed up movement) and 'measure' the distance from unit to extent of its movement range using
show_cursorstat
in the console.

Each change in co-ordinate from show_cursorstat represents one pixel on map_regions.tga

It might turn out to be a one to one ratio - but as the movement gets varied by so much I never paid a lot of attention to how it related....

There is no direct conversion because different land types remove different amounts, but there is a direct conversion between the number of pixels and the movement grid on the map, if that's what you mean?
