Could someone upload a clean 1.1 export_desc_character_traits for me?
I went into this file with notepad and now I should reinstall because of that...

P.S.: How come I get a CTD when I change something in the EDCT, while I can change whatever I like in the EDU without ever getting a CTD???

The answer is, wait for it YOU HAVE MADE MISTAKE IN THE FILE AND RTW CANT COPE WITH THIS MISTAKE.
So what that both files are in the same folder. There is no rule whatsoever that files in the same folder must have anything common with each other.
So what that they are both in text format using ANSI encoding, sure this gives you information how to edit them physically but still says nothing about valid structure of the content of the file. Whatever the file is text, image, movie, excel workbook, audio file its all just sequence of 1 and 0, nothing more.
So why is EDU easier to edit?
Because its just a static questionary. You have only X to Y fields to field in and thats it.
In EDCT you are constructing complex network of connections and this file has much more powerful syntax that gives you much more freedom.
I think there is an expression in English "With freedom comes responsibility"
We did nothing to make editing files more difficult then in EB 1.0 or EB 0.8 or RTW 1.0, WE CANT DO THIS.
My advice is read tutorials in RTW modding section about how to edit certain files.
Use decent text editor and not notepad (notepad++ is my choice).
Backup files you are about to change.
Use baby steps when modding. Change only few things and test them. If they dont work you can more easily find place WHERE YOU HAVE MADE ERROR.
Fix it and continue.
If you find that certain files are to hard to edit complain to CA.

My question was simple.
For example you add "a" somewhere in the EDU --> CTD
You remove that "a" --> works fine
Now what I did in in the EDCT was adding an "m" to Memphis (why? Look at the the thread about it in tech sub forum... it said mephis in the trigger)
I know EDCT is sensitive so right after I added that "m", I was afraid I would screw something up, so I removed the "m". I saved (and that was probebly my mistake) and left the EDCT in its original form (except for the saving).
My question was why notepad screws things up if you open EDCT with it and not change anything, while you can open and even mod EDU with it.
As you can see, there is nothing about this question that is even remotely similar to whining (this answer to your post, however, I must admit, does contian some whining).
Anyway no offence taken or anything and sorry if I'm asking a stupid question.
Actually, I do explain why, but perhaps not for some. Notepad doesn't handle Unicode correctly. EDU is not in Unicode. EDCT cannot be in Unicode. export_VnVs.txt must be in Unicode or lose information. Notepad will convert stuff without asking, and uses some weird logic apparently including whatever other files you've opened earlier. Just don't use it and you'll be fine.Quote:

I used Notepad++ to chance EDCT File to fix "Mephis" bug and it worked..You can use That program for EDCT...:book: but first backup :2thumbsup:
