the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
I was just pondering if the current coastal design is behind the absence of AI naval invasions. There are only a few select 'beaches' (+ ports) where one can upload/unload troops + once unloaded, the troops are 'stuck' for one turn unless unloaded into a harbor. Could it be that the current system is too complex for the AI to figure out?
For example, I have a bunch of Spanish troops aimlessly piling up in Brittany right now. Spain is at war with Britain while I am French. One would think, those Spanish troops gathering in Britanny are meant to be sent to Britain. Alas, the AI cannot figure out how/where to load them onto a ship...
-
Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
I have not figured out how to unload in harbor!
If the ships are in port you can not access the army when it is loaded. If they are out of port they will not unload into the port for me.
I have not tried it with troops in the port. Perhaps if they pretended to load you could transfer the troops on the ships to that stackā¦
As for beaches, there are some areas where it is hard to find a place to load and ships may have to move a space or two.
It can be a little frustrating.

Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
To unload in thr ports:
1. dock the fleet in the port
2. there should be a button when you click on the port (same column as the reinforce button) that is a ship with 2 arrows going opposite ways.
3. a screen will pop up and highlight the forces to unload and click the button in the centre of the screen.

Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
Hotlinked pic above, get rid of it please.
Thats a good point OP, it may be just that. CA said they have somewhat corrected it in the upcoming patch...I guess they want it between where it is now, and the crazy naval antics of M2TW.

Some of us don't spend all day every day here, so a please wouldn't have gone amiss :idea2:

I aint a mod, but that doesnt mean I won't go around putting you plebs in your place. :smug:
ED eh? Big man, goes on /b/ etc. You can't be a day over 14.
Take it as friendly advice, I've had a few warning points in my time for hotlinking pictures. It isn't allowed, so you are free to rehost that picture at a place like imageshack, or photobucket, then link to it.
This isnt 4chan mate, we don't run around screaming "MODS ARE ASLEEP, POST CPCPCPCPCPCPCPCPCP!!!!!!!!! BRING BACK SNACKS" and so on.

Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
You on some kind of a power trip son?

Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
Look, I hate to point this out, about who may know the rules a bit better around here, but:
I try to avoid creating work for the moderators around here, they have enough to deal with, plus they want to be playing E:TW as well.
This has gone way off topic, so I'm pulling out of the discussion now.

Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
Oh really, I remember when you came to the site less than 3 years ago you were lot more polite then
-
Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
Honestly, you're not being particularily polite yourself.
-
Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
Wow, way off topic all of a sudden. And as an aside, I remember when most of these people joined the .Org. (since 2000) But thats neither here nor there.
:focus:
- The answer has for unloading in a port has already been posted above.
- The answer for unloading troops on a shoreline has already been posted (by me) in a few different posts. But just so you dont have to search for it.
Alt+A or select individual cards in the army screen and then drag and drop all of the unit cards on the shoreline and, viola.
I dont think that the type of shoreline has much of an effect. I mean you cant land troops on the cliffs of Dover, but a rocky shoreline shouldnt stop you from landing troops.

Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
Yes i apologise for derailing the thread but he only added the "please" in his post after all the unpleasantness
-
Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
Well I can load and unload pretty much everywhere I have tried so far. Also you can load and unload in the same turn as long as you are in the ships movement range.

I have been coming to the org since 2001. I have perused all these boards since I bought shogun when it was released.
Your the most annoying poster in my 8 years of TW.
Congratulations.

Off topic:
Jees guy's, talk about a pissing competition or what?
On topic:
You can load and unload troops anywhere on a coastline.
Get the ship close enough to land. Go to the army tab and then you click back on the land and you're done.
Off topic:
Carry on sir's!
I'll get the handbags, your "Seconds" will be along promptly to allow the selection of weapons and explain the rules of dueling.
Dawn. Tomorrow.

Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
you don't need to spend much time on these boards to know that peve is a fanny. I worked it out rather quickly :idea2:
-
Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
Pevergreen is not a jerk. You guys just cant appreciate genius. :laugh4:
Ok, now either :focus: or we should just let this thread die.

Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
pever may have come across as a little preachy... but he's right your not allowed to hotlink pictures...lets get a bit less personal shall we...
ohh and i don't think join dates should matter... but if they do then my senior opinion that they don't matter is more important ~;)
Onto the topic fisher i figured out how to load and unload troops in a port, underneath the reinforce symbol (little plus thing) and underneath the destroy symbol (fire?) there is an embark/disembark command, i think you have to click to embark on the troops and click to disembark on the boat, took me a little while to figure it out...

Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
Stay on topic.
Discuss the game not other patrons.
You all know better.
-
Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
Off topic: Nelson where are from in maryland??? i live in southern maryland, (not to seem stalkerish but never meet a patron of my home state)... even if i dislike living there.:laugh4:
On topic: the reason the AI does not land on beaches is the same reason they didn't invade islands in mtw or rtw. They are stupid. It is a serious design flaw that really should have been remedied with the decade of game production creative assembly is in control of. Oh well maybe they will fix it in newer patches. Until then you can just gift areas on the other continents to whoever you want
-
Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
they invaded islands in the last 2
-
Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
here is a pic from M2TW (i know you meant MTW and RTW just have no screenie)
that was a fun campaign btw

Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
I know what you're saying but the AI did (you have to admit) that they did not transport troops in the game. For instance in RTW i never once saw crete or Ireland conquered and the Greeks on Rhodes, and the Egyptians on Cyprus were never touched.
So to clarify the AI RARELY invades islands. By the way smellycat you do appear to have an entertaining campaign put together there.
-
Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
its horrible they are eating me alive
-
Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
Hmm was that normal for that campaign??? I would like to see you post a little more about it on the MTW2 section, i can't lie i am very intrigued right now.

Re: the reason behind no AI naval invasions?
This is a METW2 discussion, but after 1.2/1.3, essentially all Med factions want to capture Ajaccio & Cagliari. Everyone from the Pope to the Egyptians will attack those two islands, and any faction hapless enough to hold them.
Back to the region trade topic:
Much to my surprise, I saw Montreal had become an Iriquois territory in my current Sweden game (stopped my Dutch campaign due to a CTD just a few turns away from victory, bugger).
When I looked again, Michigan had become French. I looked at the diplomacy screen, the two are at peace. So this is my second AI-AI property swap so far in 5-6 campaigns. Happened around 1705 too, so these things can happen any time.
