Just got the game today, so far I am enjoying it although I am a little disappointed about STEAM. I am playing the ROAD TO INDEPENDENCE and I am stuck in the French and Indian War. I cannot seem to get to Quebec. Right now I have my Army at Fort Carillon and I cannot seem to get the Army across the water way to get to Quebec. I am sure that there is a game mechanic that I just am not doing correctly. Suggestion?

given that ur new to the forums and the game ill point out some obvious ones, having not played the RTI i dont know for sure tho.
boats?
land bridge?
are the 2 obvious ones i can think of other than that i dont know without loading the game and looking at it.

Thank you Knoddy, not condescending at all. There is no way (that I have been able at least) to get a boat up there and there is no land bridge. There is a double headed arrow that is gold in color that spans the water. I assumed that it represented a crossing point, but I cannot do anything with the Army to get it to cross there. Like I said, I am sure that it is some game play mechanic that all who have played for a while take for granted. But I have been trying to cross for about 20 turns- Geo Washington actually died of old age!Quote:

I have had Louisburg for sometime and even took Newfoundland so I would have something to do. But Quebec does not appear on the map, I only learned that I was supposed to take Quebec after walking in circles with me Army for a while- then I consulted an online walk through that someone posted. For anyone whose played the whole thing, is it worth redoing this campaign to continue on to ep 3? Mainly, will I learn anything important that I wouldn't pick up in my first campaign?
Sabot, WRT your graphics issues, do you have an Nvidia GPU? If so try this maybe:

Also -- you might want to decrease settings, though from what you've described, it sounds like your system is pretty high end.
Finally, I did read that there's an incompatibility with the latest Nvidia drivers, not sure if this is a problem after the latest patch. Google Nvida compatatibilty and ETW to find a link to the most recent working driver (I'm not sure if this has been fixed with the patch.
The arrow is a crossing, and normally if you click on where you want to go on the other side your army will cross. However occasionally if there is a npc or army near the crossing on the other side the game will not let you cross, but it will pick another route if one is available, and if not, it simply act like the crossing does not exist. You may have to wait a turn, but usually the other npc will move and suddenly the crossing will be available.

I vaguely remember thinking I needed to get to quebec in RTI but the game wasn't letting me, then I finished what-ever chapter that was ( 2? ) then getting to qb was available like normal, just march there. I know it's a lame answer, only posting as there hasn't been a clear one and the problem seems very familiar.

Sorry Beskar I don't understand "open up the address space". I know enough about the inner workings of the operating system and the hardware to get by and that is about it. I did do a topic seach on the subject of the flashing screen here on the fourm and the best advice that I could find that made sense to me, was at my skill level and seemed to help was to play the game a window.Quote:

You don't get much out of playing Chapter 4 of the RTI, so you might as well save yourself some time, mate.

Where is Quebec?
Quebec is the settlement marked with a red circle in the top left of the screenshot. As you can see I've just captured it, and this was effectively the last turn of this stage of the campaign.
How do I get there?
Well there are actually several ways to get to it. There are two land bridges across the St. Lawrence River marked A and B on the screenshot. So, troops can simply march across the river and then along the far bank to Quebec.
However, its not normally that simple. The French usually keep strong garrisons at Montreal and at the fort marked with blue circles on the map, and to be honest I never had the money to raise an army strong enough to fight my way through.
There is a third land bridge at C which might allow you to bypass Montreal and its garrison, but I suspect the French would react to any attempt to use it.
Whats the best way to take Quebec?
Not sure its the best way, but it worked for me.
What I actually did was send a fleet with an army around the top of the map and up the St. Lawrence River. I had already blockaded all the French Canadian Ports anyway so I already had ships in the area. Once the fleet was in position I sent cavalry and scouts round the to raid the settlements around Montreal. (As I recall these troops, had march round the head of the St.Lawrence and in through the Indian territories)
The French reacted by sending the garrison from Quebec south to deal with the threat leaving Quebec unguarded.
As soon as the French marched out of Quebec I landed my army at the small fishing port which you can just see burning in the far left of the shot. When you land troops at a port they can march immediately so as you can see they made it to Quebec the same turn and Ninja'd the victory location. In fact I also managed to march a few troops over the land bridge at A to reinforce them the same turn, because the French removed the garrison from the fort guarding the crossing.
What do you get for completing the whole Campaign?
The main thing you get is the ability to play the Grand Campaign as the United States. That was my main interest in completing it.
Actually, that's the St. Lawrence River between the USA and Canada.
The Delaware separates New Jersey from Pennsylvania.

What is happening is the second city your suppose to take needs to be taken by sea if you take it by land the scripting goes haywire
