Internet forums have created hate amongst nationalities?
If this forum and totwar.com are the only forums that you look at, then you wouldn't know the insanity that goes on in the other forums. In the other forums, there are individuals who instigate arguments between different groups of people. What worries me is that I can see the hate forming in these groups of people who never said anything bad about each other before. Instead of debating in an effective way, some people attack one's character. If people just informed each other their own opinions, then we wouldn't be having any problem. The problem is that an internet forum is where anyone who knows how to type can join in no matter how immature or politically incorrect that individual is.
I typed this to let out the stress that I got from another forum.

Re: Internet forums have created hate amongst nationalities?
I beg to differ. I think the internet reduces national hatred, disrespect and stereotyping.
For example, it is an excellent instrument for me to enlighten and educate you people of lesser nations of the ways of the civilized world. :book:

I blame it on the Ministry of Silly Walks.

Re: Internet forums have created hate amongst nationalities?
If I am any example, I have developed a hatred of "civilized" people, especially civilized Frenchmen and Englishmen, just by hanging out here. Funny, because I used to agree with people like Louis.

Re: Internet forums have created hate amongst nationalities?
I would say no. Infact I would go so far as to say that international forums make us realise that many have the same concerns, likes, and dislikes hidden behind a thin veiled wall of misunderstanding or propaganda set place by so called established sourses of knowledge repositories (media, government publications, political double speak).
I also have a long dong. We can all agree on that.

I find the Vietnamese market satifying in terms to measure my lack of a large "portfolio". Thank God for the dong. :laugh4:
Back to the thread. I truelly believe that if every head of state were to converse in the Backroom, there would be world peace and lots of naked women.

Re: Internet forums have created hate amongst nationalities?
So you think if UN resolutions were voted on in a backroom discussion thread then that would finally bring us world peace?

As long as the UN was not involved and just the threat of being sent to the Entrance Hall was there, they sure as hell would get along better. Of course I would probably cause WW3 somce brilliant thread about the downfalls of sodomy.:2thumbsup:

This is what I'm talking about. You guys relax and know how to have fun. I don't see this in some of the other forums.

Don't generalize, I'm hating all nations at the moment. Especially French and Mongols. Just read about some guy called Genghis Khan who apparently was very mean...

So don't go there. The beauty of internet forums is that there are literally millions around.

Despite my maturity, superior wisdom, refined culture, unique class and other appearances to the contrary, I was not too old to learn a few things when I became a member of the .org. I learned some debating techniques here that are very useful on bad forums. And I learned patience. People in most other forums are flabbergasted if you treat (and continue to treat) them with respect instead of personal attacks, one-liners and foul language. Some just don't know what to say, others PM you to express their gratitude and mods sticky your contributions as a model for others. It makes you more influential in a forum, people actually start listening to you.
In short, I have high hopes for the Internet if you all follow my lead. :smug:

I learnt all about posting etiquette in usenet. Mixing with some usenet veterans, who harked back to the days before the September That Never Ended, I learned about posting protocols, and why they existed. Mixing with people whose RL memories go back waayyy before the internet existed, I learned about life experience, and how the world works, and a fair degree of cynicism. I eventually migrated to web forums, which were the only venue for popular specialist discussion of TW games, but for learned discussion of general matters, usenet was the best in my experience.

Re: Internet forums have created hate amongst nationalities?
i have learned a ton on these forums, and while there have been times when i wanted to yell at some people over the israel/palestine dabate, overall ive managed to keep myself calm.
these forums have made me a better person and more open to other views.

This is the reason I write here on the .org.
Those people in favour of unlimited "free speech" on the internet can go :daisy: themselves. The reason we can have sensible debates on this forum, is that we have very good moderators here, who strike down immediately on immaturity, personal attacks, flaming, etc etc.
On forums without hard-line mods, what you see is a complete mess. As "people should have the right to say whatever they like", any kind of sensible debate is quickly silenced into a pissing match to see who can shout higher than the others.
In short, I cannot express my gratitude for the mods here and their attitude enough. If the rest of the internet followed your example, the internet might be useful for things other than downloading porn.

Re: Internet forums have created hate amongst nationalities?
The mods are doing an excellent job, more then moderators they are ringmasters, not only the guardians of good behaviour but also guiding discussions.
hats off.
that should save me some infractions

Re: Internet forums have created hate amongst nationalities?
I think people will get along better through the internet. You can learn a lot browsing forums and reading up on some stuff that takes your interests... so long as the internet increases our knowledge then :daisy: things like racism will be on the decline.
As for the heated debates along national lines (without going into ethnic nationalism), I think we will be a bit stubborn with that for a while to come, although giving the opposition a chance to say where they are coming from will surely at least help generate some understanding.

But the stereotype on the internet is that you are a white, male, American, middle-class, better-than-everyone else, who has gender identity issues and sometimes pose as "girl"'s (guy in real life) and hates everyone different from that stereotype, especially homosexuals (even when they are posing as said female saying this). Oh and you love porn and subscribe to Maxim.
Also, anyone who believes anything like equality are 13 year old communists wanna-be dictators who want to destroy freedom of others being able to bomb 3rd world countries for oil supplies.

Free speech on the internet should never be regulated by the government. Free speech on these forums? They're private, so I agree with your opinion on that.

Re: Internet forums have created hate amongst nationalities?
I think I've learned to hate on a wider, global scale, irrespective of race, gender, creed, or nationality.
-
Re: Internet forums have created hate amongst nationalities?
I pretty much didn't care about other nationalities before browsing the intraweb.
Now, there are some that often piss me off because many of their members have a quite stupid behavior (Poles bashing Germany and Russia, Greeks bashing Turkey, Brits bashing France, Canadian bashing the US, the list goes on).
Nationalism based on century-old conflicts that nobody gives a damn about nowadays is moronic and turns me mad. Unhappilly, the internet is full of it.
I also think the org is a much more peaceful place, most of the nationalist nutjobs disappeared or improved their behavior. That's definitely a plus.

"Free speech" on the internet means that there is no free speech at all. Those shouting highest will drown out all the others.
But who's talking about the government?

Re: Internet forums have created hate amongst nationalities?
Thanks to the internet... I can see everything from all nation, and....

Re: Internet forums have created hate amongst nationalities?
If you are upset by someone's comments there's an Ignore list in your CP where you can silance that person (or Cherem it) without having to bother with writepol or joycamptours.

Re: Internet forums have created hate amongst nationalities?
The Idea of an arguement/hate sub-forum spared our site from the universal decay experienced on most sites.

Re: Internet forums have created hate amongst nationalities?
I used to be quite a bigot when I first discovered the internet. But now I hate all foreigners equally :balloon2:
