18 is nothing in Japan... We don't even get to drink or smoke until we become 20. We'll get to drive though.
Nothing worth it in america, you can smoke and you can vote but i wont get to vote for president until i am 21 (oh the irony). So unless you are all up for smoking its not a huge deal.
As you grow older, the only thing that you really find out about age is that it's just another number.
Im with you there mate. I had some friends over, it was ok. Went out for the first time to a bar. It hit me as the guy checked my ID, having turned 18 only 2 minutes previously (2 past midnight on the morning of my birthday)
I could do anything. I could go out, I could smoke, drink and do the nasty from the behind pasty.
But I don't, nor do i want to. :shrug:
18 was the last birtday that you really have to look forwards to. Up until the age of 10 you are constantly trying to make yourself older by adding halves and quarters to your age. Then once you hit double digits you start looking forwards to 16 when you can drive, and then towards 18 when you can drink without parental supervision. After that it just becomes a number, I'm now 21 and the last birthday I looked forwards to was my 18th.
I went to some bar when I was 17, even went to some Bowling and I entered there (You had to be 18 because they sold alcoholic drinks)Quote:

I got into bars before I was 18, and although it's a lot of fun if you are with friends, over and over again gets boring. So yeah, clubs, driving license and buying stocks are the only things I'm gonna be looking forward to from now on. :book:

It's understandable though, look how small the country is. Half a day's walk and you can get from London to Edinburgh. In Australia you couldn't live without a car. It's also a bit of a comming of age thing, you're not really a man until you've gotten your first car.

Personally, as a child of the Protestant Tolerance System of America, my favorite birthday was my 21st, when I could buy alcohol. I was trashed for about a week. Now that I'm 23, it's more of a balancing act; I'm always worried that I'm about to cross the line with the Freshmen chicks at my college between being the older dude and the creepy older dude.
