Currently playing a Russian save & I have noticed that Russian Inf are unable to form squares? is this correct or is it a bug?
In the le Fusil units guide It lists Musketeers and Grenadiers as being able to form squares.
Only the light infantry and militia are not.
So unless there is more to it, it may be a bug.
Pretty sure they are musketeers? I will double check though?
nope, they can form square. atleast in my game.
hmm?? Tried last night Russian Musketeers cant for some reason in my game?
If the regiment is under a certain size they will not have enough men to form the square. Check to see how many men you have and post it here. If there is insufficient numbers the square icon will be grayed out.
Also make sure it wasn't a change in some mod you're using. Removing the square option would fit with the "Russian soldiers are functionally retarded all throughout history" stereotype that's used to model the Russian faction in most mods.

Okay, I think I have found the issue, for some reason my default unit is 40 for inf?
Go to graphics options and turn "Unit Size" up higher.
Low - 40
Medium - 80
Large - 120
Huge 160
that should not be the problem and if it is, it is still a bug.
Actually below a certain size, the formation doesn't function even if you start at a bigger size.
What Munky said. With such low unit sizes it only takes a handful of missing soldiers to kill the square function. But yes it's a bug if they can't do it with 40 men.
i know... but the size should diminish with the starting size. so if 40 is the standard than 10 should be the least number to form a square...Quote:
