The greatness of naked dudes
That is Chalkis on my Roman game. I was trying to capture it with two kretan archers, two illyrian light cavalry and one depleted unit of the mercenary naked dudes. In the town itself was the Macedonian faction leader and a hugely depleted unit of peltasts. After I laid siege to the town, the Macedonians brought one of their ships around and dropped off a huge army of ~3000 guys on the northern edge of the island. They couldn't get around to attack my guys, so they were stuck there until the faction leader sallied out. I rushed up and killed the peltasts with my cavalry, captured the gate, and rushed all of my guys to the center to kill the faction leader. Everyone routed except the naked dudes, but they all eventually regrouped down the street. I kept my cavalry in the town center and ran my archers and naked dudes into the street. The cavalry fended off everyone in the town center while the naked dudes and archers watched the street. The huge army hadn't gotten there yet, they were still outside the city.
Eventually all Macedonian cavalry rushed into the city way before anyone else and my cavalry and archers beat them while my naked dudes held the street. One of the archers routed, while the other one just stood not far behind the naked dudes. Once all of the infantry got to the streets, they were held up by 100 of the mercenary naked dudes. At this point, there was still a few stragglers in the town square, so the timer wasn't going down yet. My cavalry eventually took all the stragglers out, and the timer started. The naked dudes still had like 90 guys left. They held their position while 3000 Macedonian soldiers tried to get through the narrow street. They held out for 3 minutes, and I won the battle. The Macedonian army had no where to run to, so their army was destroyed after the battle, which basically got rid of the rest of the Macedonian resistance on the Greek peninsula.
Those naked dudes are amazing.

Hey, don't be so damn hostile towards gays. Nowadays, this sort of intolerance is what is truly wrong and is righteously frowned upon in society. Gays have every right to flaunt their identity, just like women do.

Isn't winning a battle only because of the timer kind of an exploit? You should have lost that battle.

Well, at least the naked ones in the game flaunt their jewellery ;-)

Hey common dude! If winning by time was an exploit, tell me why the hell there's a timer after you took the town center? It is totaly right and legit! and winning by time, on the battlefield as in the city is as fair play as anything else!
Unintended BM, that battle was EPIC!!!

Re: The greatness of naked dudes
Yeah, I should have lost that battle, but this result was way cooler. Winning by taking the center isn't really an exploit, it's just unrealistic, but not much is really realistic about the battles anyway. I think it should be the same rules for sieges with reinforcements as the rules for when you are defending: If you're able to lock them out of all the gates and you're safely inside, that should be a victory, the town square shouldn't matter.

You could've locked the gates by letting your infantry capture them all first, once inside the walls. Then you would've had plenty of time for drawing together all forces at once to kill the enemy king. Naked dudes up front and the cavalry with their AP axes from behind. I do this sometimes, leaving the relief army witlessly wandering around the town (getting shot at by the now-captured gates and towers, and the archers - unless they're needed in the town centre).

Oooh that greatness!:clown:
But really, nice one. I would've tried athanaric's idea. But fighting like this is way cooler. Also Duguntz is completely right, this is no exploit.
Lucky they didn't get pushed away by the sheer mass pressing on them.

Yeah, Naked dudes with crack points of morale FTW!!! :laugh4:
BTW, why are you installing the modesty patch :clown:
now... it was going to be unrealistic a bit, except when they cut those flappy loincloth... and show the true manliness :skull:

Re: The greatness of naked dudes
Speaking of locking an enemy inside...
It's fun to have a small force of horsemen besiege a well defended town, have the defenders sally out, rout one of their weak units, follow that unit inside with everything you can get to it, then lock all the doors and retreat any of your troops that didn't get into the town. It cracks me up every time, watching the enemy scurry off to the other doors, only to find them locked too...
As for naked dudes, they're not bad. I just wish they were easier to recruit.

Re: The greatness of naked dudes
hehe i'll soon have a chance to use them maniacs in my KH campaign.I'm currently besieging Byzantion which is defended by chalkaspidai, clerouchoi phalangitai, hoplitai and some light extras.Let's see what those naked barbarians can do! :smash:

Re: The greatness of naked dudes
I always keep them out of battle so I can run them around behind my men allowing me to selectively expose their mutant naked glory to most fragile minds in the enemy army.
Its good to have flexibility.

screw 300! now its the 100!
afterall, them sissy spartans didn't survive the enemy-but the gaesatae did-and won :clown:
desclaimer: I don not actually think spartans, were/are/will be sissies.

Re: The greatness of naked dudes
A great victory. I would have fled instead maybe. :laugh4:
I should consider to use Gaesatae myself if I will be able to play again in the remote future. Till now I had them only on the enemy side and they failed miserably each time.

I must inform you guys that the Gaesatae in EB2 probably will not live up to the expectations y'all are use to. Enjoy the greatness of naked dudes whilst you still can!

Re: The greatness of naked dudes
Stats have not been set in stone yet, but they most likely will not have such powerful stats. They'll be toned down a bit, and there will be some religiously minded druggies in their ranks, but it is not going to be the entire group. I can be swayed from this, however, with gifts of money and an armed retinue of vassals to do my bidding....
-
Re: The greatness of naked dudes
herm accordingly to some texts provided by macrille the gaesetae are most likely a fighting style and not a unit per se so they would be an amazing warrior anyway before/to be able to fight in such a fashion
so cutting back on their stats seems a bit stupid since one can almost consider them the prelude for solduros since they had to have the means and the willingness to train hard (individually yes and not as a coordinated unit) so most likely they where either already experienced warriors who wanted to gain more attention from their leaders and thus fighted in that style to try and collect more recognition (and by it more females lands slaves or some ther way of aknowlodging their superior skills) or they where nobles and had to prove their station in life
the reason why i say a prelude for solduros and don´t cut my head off here please is that one can imagine chieftains after fighting romans and seing their habilities as a entire army responded as a single unit decided to start gathering it´s best soldiers (and those where normally the one´s with the highest ranks and thus people who fighted in the gaesatae or knew the style of combat) and create a kind of elite mini legion
i mean from the keltoi point of view it makes perfect sence to try and counter such an effective "design" for an army since we all know that the romans also influenced greeks and sirians and numidians alike
so as a solution and if their stats can be cut down then their fearing hability and their offenssive stats should be slightly enhanced and maybe even give a small moral bonus to surrounding units (i will not say to give it an advantage in ambushes since gaesatae by their own style wouldn´t hide but instead would tease the enemy into single combat)

Re: The greatness of naked dudes
Gaesatae comes from the Gallic word gaison, which means both spear and or javelin, possibly a heavy type used in battle. Celtic language the ga- prefix is seen in other words for these type weapons so the meaning is clear. Still, the Gaesatae are professionals and quite powerful overall. With their fear causing ability in enemy units, they'll still be very formidable in battle. But 2 HP will be done away with chances are.

So you're telling us that from the formidable battle thirsty warrior they were, they'll evolve into sissies? In what world are we living -_-... I liked the way they were immune to death... Well, They will have their own purpuse from now on, I mean, every army needs some levies to take supplies for the army! now our gaesate will be able to go fetch wood to build rams, so that real soldiers can storm the cities
