Sometimes I Feel Like I Was Born In The Wrong Time Period
I really feel like anywhere between 1865-1920 would have been a good time for me to live
I am an avid fan of the pocketwatch
I am an avid fan of wearing suits
I am an avid fan of the understatement and stuffy upperclass humor
I like to read
I would love to be a country gentleman. When people ask me what I do, I can reply "manage my affairs" and everyone will nod like not only do they know what that is but they know it is of the utmost importance
I am an avid fan of alcoholism masked as social drinking
I see public outburts of emotion as a sign of weakness
I'm eccentric
Granted I do have faults (mostly sexaul depravity but I feel as if that would actually help my cause here) but I would've made a good gentleman
Alas
Re: Sometimes I Feel Like I Was Born In The Wrong Time Period
Most gentlemen born in today's time feel that they were born in the wrong age.
I actually carry a pocketwatch. I rarely take it out because people stare.
And in another 20 -30 years I'll be inheriting around 400 acres of land in the countryside....granted that it will be quite near Kashmir, so I'll probably never be living there.
Re: Sometimes I Feel Like I Was Born In The Wrong Time Period
Are you kidding me? I'm watching Martin Scorsese's documentary on Bob Dylan, "No Direction Home". My favourite band is The Band. Sometimes I think I would've fit in better in the sixties to seventies. But then, I always realise that at least we have the possibility to look back on a certain time and think "Oh, I love that time."
I think a society is truly developed when you can look back at a time in history and really, really wish you lived earlier.

I feel your pain. Sometimes I wish I was born in 272 BC.

Re: Sometimes I Feel Like I Was Born In The Wrong Time Period
I'm pretty glad I'm alive when I am. Wanting to be a southern gentleman in the late 19th century is like wanting to be a millionaire today, chances are you would not be so lucky...
Re: Sometimes I Feel Like I Was Born In The Wrong Time Period
Are ya'll sure you're looking forward to stinking people, no flowing water, no electricity and no decent toilets?
Of course the old times look good in the movies and history books, but...
Re: Sometimes I Feel Like I Was Born In The Wrong Time Period
You're not alone. My brother has often said that I was raised on the wrong side of the Pacific, and born in the wrong century.
Talk about deja vu ... this came up in a PM discussion last night.
Re: Sometimes I Feel Like I Was Born In The Wrong Time Period
Oh why didn't God make you a woman!? :bigcry:
Gah, that OP is a work of such unmitigated brilliance I'm go to drop on my knee and pop the question anyway:
Please will you marry me?
Re: Sometimes I Feel Like I Was Born In The Wrong Time Period

But if you are raised in a time where there never were any toilets, there never was flowing water and electricity, and everyone always stank, then you wouldn't notice it at all. To put it in perspective, someday in the future someone might wonder what we all did without internet connections embedded in our brains.
So living in 272 BC wouldn't be bad at all.

Today is the best day that ever was for mankind, except for tomorrow.
