what specific units are we talking here, are we talking phalanxes? If so, which nations Phalanx?
in my experience almost everything is usefull against Cavalry when defending a city.
If you are using levy sarissas against armored cataphracts it would be a litte useless, that's right.
They have axes! let them use... I decimate enemy generals, cats, heavy cav. with my levy phalanxes whose secondary weapon is axe also they are better than pezhetairoi in defending city walls.Quote:

just make sure you turned off the guard mode in city battles, or you risk your phalanx face wrong way
