Accuracy Adjustments

I was talking with a couple regular players and we'd like to see a few changes made to the accuracy values, which would, in our opinion better balance the current state of EBO.

1. Reduce the accuracy values for horse archer units. As is, units like Dahae Riders and even Scythian Riders shred a lot of cheaper foot archer units which have to constantly walk back and forth after men die while HA keep firing.

2. Increase slinger accuracy. The value for levy slinger accuracy is 0.14. The value for levied archers is 0.066. That is a world of difference. Slingers should lose to archers but currently they hardly even damage them. Professional slingers (Balearics/Rhodians) are also worth less than they should be with an accuracy of 0.09 which is still much less than that of levied foot archers. I think an increase is warranted in this case to 0.09 for levy slings and 0.04 for the more professional ones.

3. Some javelin units are also rather inaccurate. While javelins perform well against units that are standing still, moving targets net very few kills for medium and lower jav units. I think their values are identical to slinger values and may need a tweaking, although not as extreme as the slinger change.

Let me know what everyone thinks about this, especially gg2.

And as a reminder for those unfamiliar with the projectiles file, the lower the accuracy value, the more accurate the unit.

I disagree with the numbers but I like the concept. But I would not go up to 0.04; I would stop at 0.07 but I want to do some tests first.

We need more accurate javs as well, dont forget.

As for values, those are just shots in the dark, testing certainly has to be done. But I would think that someone who has trained with a sling for most of his life to be hired out as a valuable mercenary would be more accurate with his choice weapon than a levy who was raised up to volley fire at a mass of men.

The other side of that is that slingers are balanced such that they necessarily need far lower accuracy values than archers, otherwise they are way too powerful.

In my opinion they are underpowerful at the moment.

If you made slingers rhodian slingers more accurate they would be OP imo, there already pretty potent.

Who on earth has been complaining about Rhodioi now? XD

What are they powerful against? Heavy cavalry? The addition of a shield value helps turn aside ranged attacks.

LOL. If our limited test means anything, the Rhodians were roughly even to standard sphendonetai at nearly twice the price.

Bah, that one was against static cavalry (so all that mattered were numbers), when moving I think their accuracy is going to make a lot of difference...

I don't think so actually since units basically shoot in the general direction of where they think a unit will be when the missile arrives. The accuracy value really shouldn't matter much in such a case since the "spread" of the ammo will still be the same for either unit type.

Just don't make them shoot at something with shield standing still.
