The Resistance! ...2! [Concluded]
The Empire must fall. Our mission must succeed. By destroying their key bases, we will shatter Imperial strength and liberate our people. Yet spies have infiltrated our ranks, ready for sabotage. We must unmask them. In five nights we reshape destiny or die trying.
We are the Resistance!
The Resistance is a party game of social deduction. It is designed for five to ten players, and has no player elimination. The Resistance is inspired by Mafia/Werewolf, yet it is unique in its core mechanics which increase the resources for informed decisions, intensify player interaction, and eliminate player elimination.
Players are either Resistance Operatives or Imperial Spies. For three to five rounds, they must depend on each other to carry out missions against the Empire. At the same time, they must try to deduce the other players’ identities and gain their trust. Each round begins with discussion. When ready, the Leader entrusts sets of Plans to a certain number of players (possibly including himself/herself). Everyone votes on whether or not to approve the assignment. Once an assignment passes, the chosen players secretly decide to Support or Sabotage the mission. Based on the results, the mission succeeds (Resistance win) or fails (Empire win). When a team wins three missions, they have won the game.
The first game of Resistance seemed to go down pretty well with you Orgahs, and I'm keen to run another; to see if it meets with the same sort of success.
While it's possible to play with just 5 people, I'm of the opinion that above 7 is preferable, so this game will have between 8 and 10 players.
There are a few variant options as discussed at the end of the first run through, but the general consensus was to keep the game vanilla for now, until folks are more familiar with the format.
Before signing up, please take a look at the rules.

First game was awesome, highly recommend trying this. I'd like to give other players a chance to try this one out, so please put me on the reserve list.

Glad to meet you. If you're unsure about games of this type, please be sure to read through the rules and the first version of this game that I've just run on the .org. There are links to both in the top post of this thread. Do not be alarmed though - the way this game plays out is actually just a very simple game of bluffing and deduction. I shall be holding everyones hand each step of the way

Re: The Resistance! ...2! [SIGN UPs]
OK - sign-ups seem to have dried up. Assuming everyone is still up for it, we DO have eight player - the minimum required to play. I'll give it another 24 hours for up to two stragglers and then get this underway.
-
Re: The Resistance! ...2! [SIGN UPs]
Apologies Lazy, I'll be moving over the next few days, so would you be able to move me to being a reserve? I'd still be happy to play if you don't get an even number of players, but I will probably miss the first phase or so.
-
Re: The Resistance! ...2! [SIGN UPs]
Ah = no problem. I'll move you to the reserves list. If we get more sign ups, I'll go ahead with the game - if not you should be sitting pretty with boxes unpacked by the time we get going :)
-
Re: The Resistance! ...2! [SIGN UPs]
Still need one or two more to get this started - any takers?
-
Re: The Resistance! ...2! [SIGN UPs]
Just letting you know I'm all good to play again (sorry about the flip-flopping!)

No problem - thanks for letting me know. OK - Sign-Ups have dried up so assuming B_Ray is in, we can get started. As it has been a little while since initial sign ups I'll point you all, via PM, at the start up thread once it's posted.

In, but only so I can ruin your current setup and make you redo work.
No need to thank me, everyone. Being a douche is its own reward.

Re: The Resistance! ...2! [SIGN UPs]
Entering the atmosphere of the small ice planet, the shuttle flattened its steep trajectory until it was skimming low over the snowy wasteland.
A long rocky ridge broke the snow like the half-buried remains of some long-dead beast and as the shuttle approached it, Lazy nodded to to the Pilot to begin his descent.
An hour after disembarkation in a new, but oh so familiar looking hangar, Lazy found herself in a new, but oh so familiar looking Mission Supervisors office, awaiting the arrival of her latest bunch of operatives. As they always did, McCrow’s thoughts turned to her first experience of Resistance Inquisition, back on the Orgahh system.
At first, It had been hard to accept: Not only was Imperial infiltration into Resistance ranks virtually endemic, but the means by which the Resistance vetted its splintered cells, was consistently and systematically harsh - often resulting in the deaths of some genuine operatives who wished for nothing more than an opportunity to strike at the Empire and achieve some kind of freedom.
Yet the flavour fades from even the bitterest of pills and what had once shocked and disgusted Lazy, after five years as Inquisitor first level, now barely piqued her interest. She hoped, as she always did, that the Resistance members on this small insignificant ice planet called ...Lazy consulted the file, briefly amused that she had no idea of the name of the planet she was on ...ah yes ...’Gehrmrerm’, would actually make her care about her job again, would make her care in the same way she had cared five years before... back on Orgahh.
The first three operatives to arrive were Nawgehrmers: All native to the Northern hemisphere of the planet. Each of them stood three feet high and were uniformly covered in blue fur. Bright piggy eyes glimmered from the fur and as McCrow observed them speaking to one another in the elevator, their blue furry heads bobbled up and down to reveal wide green mouths filled with razor sharp teeth. There was very little means of telling them apart other than by their clothes and equipment.
The first, codenamed BSMITH, wore traditional Nawgehrmer hunting gear made of pale stitched hides and lined with yet more blue fur. He carried a seemingly unlimited series of blades and was partial - according to his file - of using the cloaking device, strapped to his back, in order to to get close to his targets before literally cutting strips off them.
The second, codenamed AUTOLYCUS was a Nawgehrmer Shaman - similarly dressed as BSMITH except for the multitude of bones and skulls attached to his garb - the diminutive blue witch doctor was armed with a comparatively long trident as well as a cloaking device of his own.
The third, codenamed JAREMA looked markedly different from his compatriots. Dressed in body armour and sporting a blaster on his hip, the furry blue Nawgehrmer looked as if he came from an entirely different era. Lazy scanned the file and saw that JAREMA was descended from the Nawgehrmer nobility - his gear certainly reflected his wealthy background.
The fourth operative to arrive was clearly not a native of Gehrmrerm. Standing at over 2 metres, the reptilian Kraaak was an ex-bounty hunter. DARTH FEATHER, as he was codenamed, wore a thermal control system built into his battle armour and carried a well-used blaster rifle with telescopic sights. The visible parts of his scaly hide sprouted patches of brightly coloured feathers and his cold yellow eyes gave away no emotion.
The fifth operative also had a chequered military past, having fought with several rebel factions. Lazy noted that MAKRELL was also an experienced mercenary and smuggler, human in appearance, the weathered veteran was said to possess advanced psionic abilities which he used to ‘enchant’ those he sought to capture, or those who sought to capture him. Lazy grimaced. She would have to keep a close eye on this one.
The next solitary arrival was an imposing sight. A biotic warrior, forged for the entertainment of the Crime Lords of Ukk: HOPALONGBUNNY had been purchased and re-purposed by a known rebel faction and had soon shown as much aptitude in the field as he had in the fighting pits of Ukk; for the dismemberment and general destruction of his foes.
The final three members of the tainted Resistance cadre were natives of the Southern hemisphere of Gehrmrerm. Known as ‘Sawgehrmers’ they were identical to their Nawgehrmer cousins with the exception of the long horn which sprouted straight upwards from the crown of each of their furry blue heads.
The Sawgehrmers were all warrior caste, armed with an array of vicious blades to compliment their sharpened horns, and clothed in carapaced body armour. Codenamed B_RAY, ISHMAEL and DOUBLE A, Lazy realised she would probably have to mark each of them with some kind of paint in order to tell them apart.
McCrow sighed. I was almost time to introduce herself.

I shall now send out the Role PMs. Please confirm your interest in playing by replying to the PM. If you no longer wish to play - please let me know asap.
Once I have a complete set of confirmation PMs I shall inform you all, and post the game start.
Please remind yourself of the rules (In the Original Post of this thread)
WHETHER YOU ARE RESISTANCE MEMBERS OR IMPERIAL SPIES: THERE SHOULD BE NO OUT OF THREAD COMMUNICATION BETWEEN ANY PLAYERS. I WILL END THE GAME IF ANY SUCH COMMUNICATION OCCURS

Interesting, I didn't notice when reading through the previous thread that the imperial spies can't communicate out of thread. That should prove helpful to know.

Ok, having never used any of the mail features here I may have just borked the game :p
My reply to Lazy's email tells me the reply was sent to several users (that would be bad); hopefully my interpretation of that (system message) is flawed :)

I don't think there was a problem. I received your empty PM (personal message) which I took to mean you were playing :2thumbsup:. If you sent an empty PM to anyone else, thats fine by me.
The thing is to remember not to discuss this game outside this thread. You may well be playing with some of them in other games, or arranging to meet for coffee and cake - that's all fine, JUST AS LONG AS YOU DON"T DISCUSS THIS GAME OUTSIDE THIS THREAD! - If you imagine that this game is usually played by people around a table, then the person who is peeking when they should have their eys shut is called a 'cheater'. That is what you are doing if you discuss this game outside the thread - the game just isn't balanced to handle that and you only bork it if you do so. I may well be labouring this point beyond politeness so I shall now shut up about it. Don't worry if you don't fully comprehend the rules, I shall explain things as we begin, if you DO have any questions feel free to post them in the thread, or PM me if you feel they might be a little too situation specific for public eyes.

Re: The Resistance! ...2! [SIGN UPs]
ready for an action!
EDIT:
I must admit that one of things I love in this setup is lack of out-of-thread communication for anyone, scum included
-
Re: The Resistance! ...2! [SIGN UPs]
OK thank you all for the quick response. I've had a full set of confirmations and will post the game start thread shortly. Again: Any questions please feel free to PM me, or simply post them in the thread.

Re: The Resistance! ...2! [SIGN UPs]
The nine members of the Resistance team were sitting around the table of the Operations bunker, ready for their briefing. The Nawghrmers and Sawgehrmers had placed themselves at opposing ends of the table, with the off-worlders forming a barrier between them: Apparently relations between natives of the two hemispheres were strained at best.
‘Right! - Here we go again’ Lazy thought as she hit the alarm button.
‘YOU ARE UNDER SECURITY LOCKDOWN’ blared repeatedly from the speakers, as blast doors fired into place, covering the door to the elevator and the only other visible exit from the room.
All members of the team leapt to their feet and scanned their surroundings, weapons at the ready.
Presently the alarms were silenced, although the various red flashing lights continued their visual assault.
‘Alpha Team - Welcome to the Resistance HQ!’ purred Lazy into the mic. ‘I am your Mission Supervisor, Inquisitor McCrow - tasked with - amongst other things - of organising you lot into a coherent fighting unit.
First of all - and by way of an explanation to the current security alert; I must share some rather shocking news with you.
It has come to the attention of High Command - rather catastrophically late in the day I’m afraid - that while six of you are exactly who you claim to be, it seems that three of you are not members of our Resistance at all.’
Lazy paused - as she always did - and monitored her charges closely as the implications sunk in.
‘No ladies and gentlemen - this is not an alarm test: I have it on the highest authority, that three of you are...ahem … Imperial spies’.
A little bit of uproar was usual at this point, and Lazy paused while the Sawgehrmers and Nawgehrmers jabbered angrily amongst themselves, and HOPALONGBUNNY positoned himself in combat mode.
‘However...’ McCrow continued ‘ What has not been established is which of you are loyal to our cause and which of you are the traitors, so I’d appreciate it if no-one started anything stupid. As soon a move is made by ANY of you, I state plainly that ALL of you will be immediately destroyed.’
‘It has been made clear to me by High Command that all of our necks are on the line if anything kicks off down here, and I know for a fact that they will not hesitate to nuke us at the drop of a hat.... so, It is in all of our best interests at this moment, that none of us kill anyone else...
AM I clear? ’
A few muttered agreements were heard, but the peace established felt by no means easy.
Satisfied that the two parties of Gehrmrermians weren’t about to leap at each others furry throats, McCrow continued with the charade:
‘The nine of you have been selected to complete these final Missions, which will allow us to eliminate the Imperial incursion here on Gehrmrerm. The Empire has nothing more than an outpost and two divisions of scouts here at present and if we can take them down, the Resistance can establish a system wide base of Operations here. I am informing you now that NOTHING HAS CHANGED!’ Our Missions MUST go ahead.’
‘So - a word from our rather demanding superiors, and myself must now follow: To the three of you Imperial scum who have been tasked with sabotaging our efforts - I can only say ‘May you burn in hell you ****-****ing *******s.
When we catch you - and we WILL catch you: I’ll make you pay in pain and blood for anything you EVEN THINK you can do to endanger the success of these Missions.
None of you is above suspicion, but it is going to be up to those of us with genuine loyalty to the cause; to get these Missions underway regardless of the three Empire scum amongst us.
For those of you around the table who are truly loyal - I am sorry that it has come to this. There is no time to tarry. We must begin immediately with the assassination of the Imperial Scout Commander. Take a break. Stow your kit - you will not be leaving this room except for when you are selected to undertake one of our vital strikes against the Empire, and for our freedom.
BSMITH - High command has selected you as the first ‘Leader’. It is your job to make a proposal for our first Mission Team. You will need to select three Agents to undertake the assassination attempt. Pick who you want, Pick who your buddy wants - however you do it, make sure you listen to the advice being given - maybe one of the scum will give themselves away in this very room. Pick yourself if you want, but whatever you do: Pick well - the future of everyone on this slushy little planet hangs in the balance.
*****************************
You may now begin open discussion in this thread, about who your feel should be included in the first mission. Role Play is encouraged but in no way compulsory.
ORDER OF PLAY - PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY!
The first ‘Leader’ will be BSmith. BSmith will propose three members (possibly including himself) to attempt the First Mission. Once the proposal is posted in the thread you are ALL required to send me a PM either APPROVING or OPPOSING the Mission Team proposal.
Once I have a complete set of votes, I shall post the results in the thread - including how each player voted. A clear majority of APPROVAL votes means the proposal succeeds. Ties are counted as OPPOSED.
If BSmith’s proposal succeeds, Mission 1 will begin.
If BSmith’s proposal is opposed then ‘Leadership’ passes to the next player in Turn Order:
1) BSmith
2) autolycus
3) Jarema
4) Darth Feather
5) Makrell
6) HopAlongBunny
7) B_Ray
8) Ishmael
9) Double A
If five Mission Team proposals in a row are OPPOSED the Imperial Spies win automatically!
Once The First Mission has begun, the selected Team Members must send me orders via PM. Loyal Resistance members MUST send ‘MISSION SUCCEEDS’ orders. Imperial Spies may send either ‘MISSION SUCCEEDS’ or ‘MISSION FAILS’ orders.
Once I have a complete set of orders I shall post a write-up of the outcome - checking to see if either of the win conditions have been met - and if not - we shall proceed to the next Mission with a new ‘Leader’
A reminder of the Mission List:
THE MISSIONS:
1st Mission Team: 3 Members
2nd Mission Team: 4 Members
3rd Mission Team: 4 Members
4th Mission Team: 5 Members*
5th Mission Team: 5 Members
*This Mission requires a minimum of 2 MISSION FAILS orders for it to fail.
Anything not clear? Post questions in thread or PM me. And REMEMBER - NO OUT-OF-THREAD COMMUNICATION about this game with any of the other players!
-
Re: The Resistance! ...2! [SIGN UPs]
the only advise I may have is to include Autolycus and me (and possibly Darth Feather instead of you, BSmith) in the mission, because then there would be some knowledge on us, and we are going to propose teams next
