Went swimming in Lake Michigan yesterday
The water must have been between 40 and 45 degrees (that is what it felt like at least), and I spent an hour in it. All the people on the shore (not that there were a lot of them) were looking at me like I was crazy, but I didn't care because I was having a blast. It was my first time ever seeing one of the Great Lakes and I really wanted to swim in it on my first time. Spent three hours before that rock climbing (with a bum ankle at that - who is the beast?), and I wanted to cool off anyway.

Re: Went swimming in Lake Michigan yesterday
lol, is it because you don't live around water, or that you just never tried?
Re: Went swimming in Lake Michigan yesterday
Ah, according to noaa.gov, the water temp was 39 degrees in the area I went swimming. Sweet.

That's disgusting you had to ask the government to find out what the temp of the water was. If the lake had been privatized there would have been a digital thermometer right there on the coast line that you could read after putting in a quarter.
Re: Went swimming in Lake Michigan yesterday
Was that 39 degrees before or after you peed in it?

I'm afraid of any large body of water, and almost died once from drowning trying to overcome my that fear...
Re: Went swimming in Lake Michigan yesterday
I'm assuming you measure in Fahrenheit in which case kudos to you.
When I go swimming I usually just float around without bothering to actually swim. Lot more relaxing. But at that temperature I guess floating won't be all that fun.
Re: Went swimming in Lake Michigan yesterday
39 degrees? That's a bit warm...
Re: Went swimming in Lake Michigan yesterday
I'd say, I shower at that temperature, or it's really cold when meassured in fahrenheit, are there geisers there or something

lol, in human (f), not European (c). ~;) lol
Nah, I don't know what that is in Celcius, but it is quite cold. You stop feeling you feet really quickly and you have to move a lot to make it bearable.

Yeah, I had to move around a lot to make it bearable, but amazingly near the end I found these warm pockets of water that I could just float in. I have no idea how that works when you are in a body of water so large that moves around so much, but there were certain areas where the water had to be 10-20 degrees cooler than the rest and you could actually just float there.

Well that sucks. You should try again, but make it safe this time. Only go in water you can stand in, and learn to swim in that. That way there is no risk. Swimming is quite fun. (even for people like me who are very poor at it.)

Politics in the Frontroom? Really?
Re: Went swimming in Lake Michigan yesterday
According to the government website, the footpath I used to walk to work has an average density of 4000 kg/m3. I walked 500m on that today, with an ingrowing toe nail.
Superhuman!
