If the outcome doesn't go Scotland's way, it would be a bit worse off. the English did not "colonize" Scotland - the Scottish successfully kicked the English out several centuries before the act of Union - Scottish Independence from the Kingdom of England was gained during the second war of independence which ended in 1357 - the act of the union was in 1707.
