Best line from a song
Whether it's just your favourite line or if it applies to you or if it makes you smile or if it makes you cry....What do you think is the best line you've heard?
Mine would have to be from 'Time' by Pink Floyd....
...and then one day you find ten years have got behind you no one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun....
Sums up my life...
....Orda

Re: Best line from a song
I can relate to that one.
For me, Heart rules the Head when it comes to music and lyrics. Most will likely think mine silly, but it is:
"I will always love you."
Couldn't get it out of my head after my mom died. Seems to apply to so many other people now too. It's my fave.

Re: Best line from a song
GG Allin's Commit Suicide-
"If you're listening to this song, and everything's going wrong, take your chance on the other side..."
Nine Inch Nails "Closer"
"I want to **** you like an animal"
Nine Inch Nails "Into the Void"
"Talking to myself on the way to the station, pictures in my head of the final destination."
KoRn "Right Now"
So why'd I feel the need?
I think it's time to bleed
I'm gonna cut myself
and watch the blood hit the ground.
Marylin Manson, "Cake and Sodomy"
"White Trash get down on your knees/Time for Cake and Sodomy"
(Hed)PE "Suck it Up"
"DESTROY"... (has to be said in a guttural grunting voice)
Cannibal Corpse "Stripped Raped and Strangled"
"I come alive in the darkness...."
Orgy "Blue Monday"
"How does it feel? How Should I feel? Tell me how does it feel, to treat me like you do?"
Deftones and Soulfly "First Commandment"
"MURDERER! COVERED IN SANGRE!"
Soulfly "Mars"
"I am Mars, the god of war."
Soulfly "Jump the **** up"
JUMP THE **** UP!

Re: Best line from a song
nice contrast. ~:)
I'm a big NiN fan too. One of my favorites of Trent's is:
... he flexed his muscles to keep his flock of sheep in line
He made a virus to kill off all the swine
his perfect kingdom of killing suffering and pain
demands devotion atrocities done in his name
god is dead
And no one cares
if there is a hell
I'll see you there ... .
- "heresy," from the Downward Spiral, Trent Reznor/Nine Inch Nails

Re: Best line from a song
"Somewhere a queen is wheeping
Somewhere a king has no wife"
Jimi Hendrix Wind cries Mary
"Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth,
None of them along the line know what any of it is worth."
All along the watchtower
"I would rather walk alone
than chase you around
I would rather fall myself
than let you drag me down"
Ben Harper, another lonely day (brilliant song btw)

Heresy is good
Pilgrimage is the BEST.
-
Re: Best line from a song
How do you like this one?
"Brothers everywhere,
raise your hands into the air.
We´re warriors, warriors of the world."
Manowar
They also have a good song "Heart of Steel", but cant remember the lyrics right now....
Also Dylan´s "things have changed" is good.
And I liked Manson´s "I dont like the drugs but the drugs like me" ~D

Re: Best line from a song
Alice Cooper's classic 'School's Out!' contains one verse that perfectly captures the essence of rock
Well we've got no class
and we've got no principal
and we've got no innocence
hell, we can't even think of a word that rhymes
perfect

Re: Best line from a song
First line of "Plaistow Patricia" by Ian Dury and the Blockheads. Unfortunately Org policy will only allow me to quote it as
"********s, ********s, ****ing ****s and *****s"
We all feel like that some days.
Oh and the line about Tina in her Cortina and how a Hyena couldn't have been more obscener.
A lyrical genius RIP.

Re: Best line from a song
If you want a lover
I'll do anything you ask me to
And if you want another kind of love
I'll wear a mask for you
If you want a partner
Take my hand
Or if you want to strike me down in anger
Here I stand
I'm your man

Remember when you were young...you shone like the suuuuun...-Shine on you Crazy Diamond, Pink Floyd.
I've got a little black book with my poems in.
Got a bag with a toothbrush and a comb in.
When I'm a good dog, they sometimes throw me a bone in.
I got elastic bands keepin my shoes on.
Got those swollen hand blues.
Got thirteen channels of shit on the T.V. to choose from.
I've got electric light.
And I've got second sight.
And amazing powers of observation.
And that is how I know
When I try to get through
On the telephone to you
There'll be nobody home.
-Nobody home, Pink Floyd...this entire song makes me cry.
Shake for me girl!
I wanna be your backdoor man!
-Whole Lotta Love, Led Zeppelin.

Sing for the year,
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear.

Lithium then goes onto........
I'm so ugly, thats okay 'cause so are you
There's the odd humourous line in Nirvana songs, showing Kurts sense of humour, not all grungish with serious messages.

"Singing and we-swinging and we-ringing for invention and the pure confusion there. Ravin' and a-ranting and a-chanting revolution but a-pure confusion there. Re: Best line from a song
From "Semi-Charmed Life" by Third Eye Blind:
You're the priestess
must confess
Those little red panties
they pass the test
slide up around the belly
face down on the mattress
I don't know why, but that verse always makes me feel all tingly...
Hehe...

Re: Best line from a song
The 3 last verses of Dylan's masters of war:
How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do
Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul
And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead
and the whole of Like a Rolling Stone (Dylan too)
Once upon a time you dressed so fine
You threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn't you?
People'd call, say, "Beware doll, you're bound to fall"
You thought they were all kiddin' you
You used to laugh about
Everybody that was hangin' out
Now you don't talk so loud
Now you don't seem so proud
About having to be scrounging for your next meal.
How does it feel
How does it feel
To be without a home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?
You've gone to the finest school all right, Miss Lonely
But you know you only used to get juiced in it
And nobody has ever taught you how to live on the street
And now you find out you're gonna have to get used to it
You said you'd never compromise
With the mystery tramp, but now you realize
He's not selling any alibis
As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes
And ask him do you want to make a deal?
How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?
You never turned around to see the frowns on the jugglers and the clowns
When they all come down and did tricks for you
You never understood that it ain't no good
You shouldn't let other people get your kicks for you
You used to ride on the chrome horse with your diplomat
Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat
Ain't it hard when you discover that
He really wasn't where it's at
After he took from you everything he could steal.
How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?
Princess on the steeple and all the pretty people
They're drinkin', thinkin' that they got it made
Exchanging all kinds of precious gifts and things
But you'd better lift your diamond ring, you'd better pawn it babe
You used to be so amused
At Napoleon in rags and the language that he used
Go to him now, he calls you, you can't refuse
When you got nothing, you got nothing to lose
You're invisible now, you got no secrets to conceal.
How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?
I like it when he's angry :-)

"The world is not enough

And if you´re strong enough,
together we can take the world abroad."
Garbage -The world is not enough
"A worried man with a worried mind,
noone in front of me and nothing behind.
There´s a woman on my lap and she´s drinking champaigne.
Got white skin and assasin´s eyes.
I´m looking up into the sapphire tinted skies.
I´m well dressed waiting on the last train.
Standing on the gallows with my head in a noose.
Any minute now I´m expecing all hells to break loose.
People are crazy and times are strange
I´m locked in tight, I´m out of range
I used to care but, thing have changed."

Re: Best line from a song
Just a few:
"There’s a picture opposite me
Of my primitive ancestry
Which stood on rocky shores and kept the beaches shipwreck free
Though I respect that a lot
I’d be fired if that were my job
After killing jason off and countless screaming argonauts" - TMBG - Birdhouse in your soul
"No one in the world ever gets what they want and that is beautiful
Everybody dies frustrated and sad and that is beautiful
They want what they’re not and I wish they would stop saying,
Deputy dog dog a ding dang depadepa" - TMBG - Don't let start
"A hundred stairs to her new room
Over glass and blackened spoons
Children grow old so soon
Past the kids who gather there
Pain masked by narcotic stares
But no one really cares
Her dreams were cut up and bled dry
A million voices in her cry" - The Levellers - Julie
" Yellow matter custard dripping from a dead dogs eye.
Crab locker fishwife pornographic priestess boy you been a
naughty girl, you let you knickers down
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen
I am the walrus GOO GOO GOO JOOB" - The Beatles - I am the walrus
"Me and my girl we got this relationship
I love her so bad but she treats me like shhh
All locked down like a penitentiary
She spreads her lovin all over and when she gets home there's none left
for me
Evil come to tell you that she's evil most definitely
Evil, ornry scandalous and evil most definitely
The tension is growing hotter I'd like to hold her head underwater..." - Sublime - Doin' Time
"Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods
Will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying:
Valhalla, I am coming!
On we sweep with threshing oar,
Our only goal will be the western shore.
Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
How soft your fields so green,
Can whisper tales of gore,
Of how we calmed the tides of war.
We are your overlords.
On we sweep with threshing oar,
Our only goal will be the western shore.
So now you’d better stop and rebuild all your ruins,
For peace and trust can win the day
Despite of all your losing." - Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song
"Though I know that evenin's empire has returned into sand,
Vanished from my hand,
Left me blindly here to stand but still not sleeping.
My weariness amazes me, I'm branded on my feet,
I have no one to meet
And the ancient empty street's too dead for dreaming." - Bob Dylan - Mr. Tamborine Man
"all the guys
that really have the money
are too old
to have a good time with it
too old to turn the women on
too old to have a fast car and drive it" - Porno for Pyros - Cursed Man
"I've been to hell. I spell it...I spell it DMV
Anyone that's been there knows precisely what I mean
Stood there and I've waited and choked back the urge to scream
And if I had my druthers I'd screw a chimpanzee
call it pointless
When I need relief I spell it THC
Perhpas you may know vaguely what I mean
I sit back and smoke away huge chunks of memory
As I slowly inflict upon myself a full lobotomy
call it pointless" - Primus - DMV
