I've been assimilated...
...and become one of the minority that have abandoned IE for good! I was quite impressed with Opera (someone hacked our school network and installed Opera and Firefox on the school PC's) and have decided to download Opera onto my home computer. I'm already noticing 90% less buggyness, and 74% less craptasticness!
I especially like the tabbed browsing thing. It's very handy. No more going to the start menu for me! I just click on the new page button in the corner and 'wham' a new page. And it has a google search bar!
Also, their promises about no more pop-ups seem to be true. I've already visited two websites today that are usually jammed full of pop-ups, and i got nothing!
I wuv my Opera 8.5!
So, who else has joined the 'lol evil microsoft hax' bandwagon and downloaded an alternative browser?
P.S The .Org needs a little picture for its tab.

I'm running Mozilla proper....

Re: I've been assimilated...
You will learn to love Opera. No more sneaky .exe downloads. You WILL love this browser. That I promise. Welcome to the enlightened. :idea2:

What size would work best? And is there a link where such instructions are provided?
Maybe this guy, squished some more.

Re: I've been assimilated...
Whatever thats developed in Norway gotta be good.. but I`d never abandoned IE. :shame:
-
Re: I've been assimilated...
I've recently been converted to Firefox. Beats IE hands down.
-
Re: I've been assimilated...
Had FF for over a year now. No way I would go back to IE.

Re: I've been assimilated...
Giving Opera a try right now. Looks good. What got me hooked is the 'Sessions' option that allows me to repeat my daily round of the news stands much more easily. For that reason alone I think I will keep it at least on standby, maybe make the definitive switch from IE-swine to Ueberbrowser.
Should have known this earlier. How long has this baby been around? :wall:

Re: I've been assimilated...
I'm currently having fun with the voice feature. It's so fun shouting commands at Opera.
Opera, reload! Opera, Log In!

Re: I've been assimilated...
Maxthon Maxthon Maxthon !
All you praise about Firefox, Opera and IE are into Maxthon ! C'mon, every download worth 2 bucks for me !
:wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

The only browser that you'd need nothing else with.

Re: I've been assimilated...
Congratulations sir, you crashed Opera! Heheh, i shouted too many confusing commands at it, then clicked something and 'whack'. On the bright side of things, it saves all the tabs for you from when you were last on, so i just opened Opera and i was back where i started. No faffing about with the history page for me.
Score
Opera 3 - IE 0.
P.S Incredibly pleased with tabs. Will never have to type addresses for sites i visit everday ever again. Can just click on the tab for whichever site i want! And, their all in order, so i don't have to think about it.

Maxthon has that too.. :wall:
One more user of Maxthon in this thread and I'll be happy to die.

30 seconds later, and the results are in. It loaded for me. It's a problem on your end.

Re: I've been assimilated...
Firefox is better. But unlinke IE, it doesn't autoupdate. And lately, I've been having strange download problems:inquisitive: So if I need to download a large file, I have to use IE.

Re: I've been assimilated...
It might just be Image Shack. They've been getting swamped lately, the more popular they get (and with many forums utilizing their 'thumbnail' script). I've seen a significant slowdown in their upload/download times in the past 2 weeks.

Integrated my foot. I can not even install my favourite start page, Google, in the preferences box. Whatever I do, my start page reverts to the Maxthon homepage with the Yahoo search engine. So that's the deal, huh? If they can't get this right, they can't get anything right.
That's it, I'm afraid, LeftEyeNine. Maxthon is axedthon...

Re: I've been assimilated...
How does the Opera sessions thing work? It sounds quite intriguing.
-
Re: I've been assimilated...
I too am using Maxthon. It's not so bad. I made Google my home page without trouble, and disabled Roboform during installation. I will also try Opera at some point. Thanks for the tips!

A session = all the active sites in your Opera browser at a given moment. By saving the lot with one click and giving them a file name, you can retrieve them with another click on same file at any time in the future. You can make batches of connected websites for work, entertainment, radio, what have you. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Or with IE you could have just went windows key + N and bham a new page.
At work I am limited to using IE... profiles and all.

Re: I've been assimilated...
I have Mozilla on my computer, but I don't have internet and because my dad deletes programs at random I've resigned myself to using IE on this machine. Though I have to say I don't like or use tabs...
-
Re: I've been assimilated...
I'm very psyched -- the IT department at my new techie job has a "no Internet Explorer" policy, due to security concerns. Firefox comes pre-loaded, and you can ask for any other browser you like, so long as it's not IE.
Let's hear it for with-it IT departments!

You can de-select any plugins druing the installation.
I heard that Imageshack servers are pre-loaded with Maxthon browsers. That 's why it's ultra-mega-kilo-spam-mail-like-delivered-in-moments lightning fast in Maxthon..:dizzy2:
Options > Maxthon Options > Start Page > Open Home Page... option is what you want for your good, Adrian II.
One very challenging advantage of Maxthon is that there are 3 -yes 3 !- keyboard shortcuts for entering an address. For example, Ctrl + Enter is www ... com for me (that is an IE feature as well), and Shift + Enter autocompletes a word with www ... net address, while Ctrl + Shift + Enter equals to www ... com.tr auto-complete. These 3 keyboard shortcuts are fully customizable. One of my favorties in Maxthon !
The session stuff is called "Save as a Group.." in Maxthon.. All open tabs currently in wour Maxthon window are saved into a file that Maxthon can save the addresses of the webpages in for a later use. I already have 2 of them : GFX and Surf. WOW ! That's amazing ! Download Right Now !
Your browser's AD blocking feature is on, you are not annoyed with AD's or pop-ups anymore.. But.. What ?! The damn webmaster has coded it so that you can not proceed to a link without seeing their AD, so do you need to go to preferences and tick out the AD preventing options ? No, Maxthon has a miraculous bottom bar for you where there are 5 buttons located ! The 2nd one is just a switch for 6-level AD&Pop-Up defense system ! You click it and you are free to surf anywhere on the web. You re-click it and you are the safest and the fastest on the web ! WOW ! That's unbelievable, call Maxthon webmaster right now ! And tell him that you love him in a friendly way !
This miraculous bottom bar has buttons for offline surfing and opening every link automatically in new tabs when clicked as well. The trash bin icon next to these five buttons include the way to customization of the AD&Pop-Up defense system. You don't want any ADs in a webpage but you need to activate the ActiveX controls embedded there ? No problem ! Just right click the trash bin and tick out "Enable ActiveX Blocker" and leave all other defenses on ! Figure it on your own ! Maxthon loves ya ! And we know that so do you !

Re: I've been assimilated...
There's an Opera 9.0 Trial version (never tried 8.5). Although I still use Firefox 1.5.

Re: I've been assimilated...
.
Mozilla ownz all, including the bastardlet Firefox, with boatloads of extensions and plugins! :knight: Mozilla and everything that can be installed upon are free; Opera is paid/adware/Incompatible language. IE is act of Sauron!
