Which group of characters suffer the most in horror movies?
Snakes on a Plane is getting good reviews. I'm looking forward to watching that film.
At this moment, I'm watching another horror movie on television. It's about these group of teenagers. I noticed that bad things often happen to them in many recent horror movies. Right now, I see the prettiest character getting injured from walking. I have this uneasy feeling that she would be the first to go because I have seen many other movies like that. The next characters I'm worried about are the couple who are in love. If I see them alone together, then I think that'll be it for them. I don't know what the title of this movie is because I didn't see the beginning. Anyway, it's already looking eerie.

- I forgot to add the talkative character in the poll.

The more sex you have in horror movies, the less your chance of survival.

Re: Which group of characters suffer the most in horror movies?
In my movie watching experience, it seems to be the Recreational Drug User(s). I think non-comedy movies might be the best anti-drug abuse propoganda we have. Its pretty clear (to me at least) from watching movies (other than comedies, of course) that using illegal drugs, or using legal drugs in an illegal manner, makes you 100% likely to die should you ever come into a situation involving murderers, monsters, disasters, and/or supernatural phenomenon. And chances are you'll be the first one to go. So don't do drugs!
So I voted other. I'm not sure why "the prettiest character" is an option, as it seems to me that movies are most merciful to attractive girls, though not necessarily blondes. In most movies, blonde females are accurately depicted as less intelligent than peoples of other hair colors and genders, and therefore less capable of avoiding their impending DooM, so "blondes" would seem a better choice than "prettiest character". Blacks and Asians certainly don't stand a chance, but I think moviemakers are generally afraid to allow a member of either race to suffer a more grisly death than white characters.
Groups of teenagers are usually composed of characters who fall into most, if not all, of the other categories, but they do tend to be much more prone to fall victim to murder than any other age group, so I see the distinction.

Saw Snakes last night.
I will tell you who dies. If you don't want to know, don't open this.

Re: Which group of characters suffer the most in horror movies?
I would say that it's usually the loners or the couples. Not often do whole groups of people get killed in one scene.

Re: Which group of characters suffer the most in horror movies?
Rich guys. You're always set up to dislike them, and then at a random point in the film they're killed in some insanely morbid way just to please the audience.

Re: Which group of characters suffer the most in horror movies?
Nah, the funny, frequently stoned, guy always gets it.
As an aside, which death is best? My vote goes to that bus thing in Final Destination.

Re: Which group of characters suffer the most in horror movies?
I voted groups of teenagers, as they almost never survive the film intact-they are always thinned down dramatically. In terms of individual characters, I would say the African American ones seem to have it worst.
Both the Loner and the Prettiest Character seem to have one of two fates-either they are killed off very quickly, or they are the film's main character, and survive until the end.

Re: Which group of characters suffer the most in horror movies?
Well it seems to me, most people are saying who is most likely to die first, which isn't necessarily who suffers most.
I'd say it often is the pretty girl who, while usually surviving, is put through the most torture. They see there friends die, get doused with gore, chased by axe weilding psycopaths, suffer multiple near-death encounters and so on. Sometimes they even completely snap and become killing machines themselves.
As to who dies first- ya, it's usually the "immoral" characters... whether it's sleeping around, doing drugs, or just being a jerk.

Re: Which group of characters suffer the most in horror movies?
You forgot the arrogant sceptics, those always die.
-
Re: Which group of characters suffer the most in horror movies?
I was going to say 'the stupid blonde' but you pretty much covered that with the prettiest character.

The more sex characters have in the movie, the more chance you have of dieing. It seems that Virgins always survive.

Re: Which group of characters suffer the most in horror movies?
Generally arrogant characters suffer quite badly... hubris don'tcher'know.

Re: Which group of characters suffer the most in horror movies?
Anybody who dismisses the threat as first as make-believe is always one of the first to die.

Re: Which group of characters suffer the most in horror movies?
Oh well, black dude dies first ~;p

Re: Which group of characters suffer the most in horror movies?
The bad guy. They almost always die in the end...

Re: Which group of characters suffer the most in horror movies?
The survivor.
He or she will have sweet, relaxing, undisturbed sleep for the rest of her life. I think not.

Re: Which group of characters suffer the most in horror movies?
Depends on whether it's Modern Horror or Gothic Horror. In the latter, it's easily arguable that the villain suffers most.

Re: Which group of characters suffer the most in horror movies?
I hate to say this, but from what I've seen...black people suffer the most, at least in the movies I've seen.
-
Re: Which group of characters suffer the most in horror movies?
I don't know, personally I'd like to think that whomever you focus on would seem to you to suffer the most.
Though one generalization is obviously true: the Blonde dominates the story. :dizzy2:
I hate generic Hollywood horror...

Re: Which group of characters suffer the most in horror movies?
The viewer, or the black guy. Horror movies have never actually been that good to me. Every now and then I go to one hoping to be impressed. "Oh, nay never no more."
