    Default Which group of characters suffer the most in horror movies?

    Snakes on a Plane is getting good reviews. I'm looking forward to watching that film.

    At this moment, I'm watching another horror movie on television. It's about these group of teenagers. I noticed that bad things often happen to them in many recent horror movies. Right now, I see the prettiest character getting injured from walking. I have this uneasy feeling that she would be the first to go because I have seen many other movies like that. The next characters I'm worried about are the couple who are in love. If I see them alone together, then I think that'll be it for them. I don't know what the title of this movie is because I didn't see the beginning. Anyway, it's already looking eerie.

    In my movie watching experience, it seems to be the Recreational Drug User(s). I think non-comedy movies might be the best anti-drug abuse propoganda we have. Its pretty clear (to me at least) from watching movies (other than comedies, of course) that using illegal drugs, or using legal drugs in an illegal manner, makes you 100% likely to die should you ever come into a situation involving murderers, monsters, disasters, and/or supernatural phenomenon. And chances are you'll be the first one to go. So don't do drugs!

    So I voted other. I'm not sure why "the prettiest character" is an option, as it seems to me that movies are most merciful to attractive girls, though not necessarily blondes. In most movies, blonde females are accurately depicted as less intelligent than peoples of other hair colors and genders, and therefore less capable of avoiding their impending DooM, so "blondes" would seem a better choice than "prettiest character". Blacks and Asians certainly don't stand a chance, but I think moviemakers are generally afraid to allow a member of either race to suffer a more grisly death than white characters.

    Groups of teenagers are usually composed of characters who fall into most, if not all, of the other categories, but they do tend to be much more prone to fall victim to murder than any other age group, so I see the distinction.

    The first to go are the surfer bums. Then the macho guy (I won't say how, it is evil). Then the old lady. Then all sorts of random people. Then the honeymooning couple who are afraid to fly. Then the Stewardess on her last flight. Then the asshole old fat rich white guy. Surprisingly no black people die. The asian kickboxer lives. And the ditzy blonde lives (but only so the hero's sidekick can bang her)

    I would say that it's usually the loners or the couples. Not often do whole groups of people get killed in one scene.

    Rich guys. You're always set up to dislike them, and then at a random point in the film they're killed in some insanely morbid way just to please the audience.
