System bottleneck question
:inquisitive: Hi,
I am considering a gaming laptop from Dell. The specs I will go for is this:
Dell XPS M1710, Intel® Core™ Duo processor T2700 (2.33GHz/667Mhz)
Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, English(over $200 worth of xtras FREE spare battery,AC Adaptor & XPS BackPack)

100GB Hard Drive (7200RPM)

8XDVD+/-RW w/Sonic Digital Media™/CyberLink PowerDVD™, No Media
Soundblaster Advanced Audio for XPS
As I am a hardware dummy, can I ask a knowledgeable person for the bottleneck of this system? Which part can be improved/pulled back for a balanced performance? I can also get the 1gb GeForce 7950gx2 dual graphics card installed, but is it worth it? Shall I wait for some time? Shall I wait until core 2 duos become available?

Looks like a nice system, what kind of games are you looking to play on it?
Your biggest bottleneck, of course, will be the various crapware that Dell preinstalls... ~;)

Well, any game.. but I wont be getting a new one during the next 3-4 years, so I want to be able to play newer games.

Yeah, Dell laptops are very problem prone. That is why I will get a 4 year full warranty. The laptop itself gets overheated too. I am considering a laptop cooler.

That is some machine... How much power will it consume? .. You'll probably have it in a docking or with a cable when playing...

Yep, they are making custom Dells that include SLI 7950GTXs. The question is, how am I going to cool that thing?

Yeah, I am getting it as a portable desktop replacement. I am living at the dorm so electricity is free :laugh4:
