Do the devs of TW read this forum? Do they post here at all? Is there a forum where they do, if not?
They seem to read & post on this forum more than they do on the totalwar.com one.
I guess that with the game out now, & the patch being made there's probably not much for them to say.
If they ever do post on a thread its marked with a CA logo, if you check back a few pages you'll find some examples.
I'd only be guessing here, but I wouldn't be supprised if they lurk the forums here. But your best bet would be on their own official forums here.
Yes, the devs do read these forums, though how much and to what purpose remains their secret ;)
As Prodigal mentioned, if you see the CA logo to the right of a thread when browsing the forums, that indicates that a CA staff member has posted in that thread, so it might be worth checking out for updates and the like.

Devs do read the forums, some not many in fact. I'm ex game biz dev for 10 years and left the biz because of this very reason that a team will bust itself making a game for 1 maybe 2 years, sometimes all hours on top only for publisher to release it too early for a quick buck on quaterly budgets. Sadly anyone who says 'hey you can't release this yet it's not done yet' gets fired. There's nothing worse than picking up the pieces of a dev team who get shafted this way. Execs who 'don't play' call the shots and they just don't get it, or give a heck. It's sad though, especially with a quality 4th gen game like this. Same thing has happened with Mark of Chaos too.

I don't know, Lusted. I think it's quite likely they largely ignore the .com site like I do. I can't stand that place. Too much whining by people who can't use their brains. In fact, the vast majority of the "official" forums for games I've liked are similar. I think that's as far as that crowd gets; they find a place to vent and stay there. The more serious fans gravitate beyond those.
No one from CA is regularly active in the forums here. If they read them then what is the logic in them not posting?Quote:

Most games companies have pretty strict policies on responding to forums (BBS/Groups etc) though and you can't blame them for either doing that or for the employees to sticking to the rules.
Plenty of instances where folks have lost their job by not following such guidelines: remember that very few employees in a company will be able to act on behalf of the entire company, which is what you are doing by replying to a post as a company employee (or at best what you are *perceived* as doing).

I would liken it to a shy popstar (is there such a thing?) getting mobbed by a crowd of teenage girls. Only the mob are not very cute. Moreover, half want to rip out the popstar's hair. And the other half hate him and want to knee him in the groin.
To be honest, if I were a CA staffer, I would think twice before posting here. I would surf to get feedback, but spend the rest of my time doing work - not debating with strangers on the internet.
If we could all be a bit more cool about it when they post, we might entice more CA staffers to raise their heads over the parapet.

There's something to be said for being able to offer criticism in a polite, professional manner without being a jerk, and people realizing that mobbing a CA person when posting with anything on their mind isn't going to help the situation. Yeah it's a given there are going to be the hordes of n00bs and types that do nothing but mob and complain, but there are enough of us out there who really do appreciate the games and the developers hard work, but do have some legitimate points of discussion that we'd love to engage them on, such as game mechanics, bug discussion, general shooting the crap, etc. Plus giving them some good natured and well intended hell builds character. :smash:

Hell, I'd be surprised if some of the guys working at CA weren't regular members, maybe even posting regularly. They don't have to advertise their employment, and if they're not on work time, what harm can they do by sharing a story about a good battle they played?
In other words, my bet is that there are people from CA here, but not on the company bill and not letting us know they're from CA. They're careful not to say anything about it, but I know I'd be active in the community if possible. Why wouldn't they, so long as they don't say anything about their job? Recounting a game they played or something that happened in their offtime has no bearing on CA at all.
And also, we've got a nice buglist going, and I'm sure they love to see it from us.

Seriously if I was from CA I'l go daft from the crap on the other board. This is the only one that I know of where things stay civil and (sometimes) constructive. Plus we've got the neatest bug list.

Your description of "handling" the community is perfect. That is exactly what was done when the Load/Save Bug was being discussed (for want of a better word) sometime ago. All it did was drive the situation even further down the toilet.
Fishpants is the only CA guy I've seen around here regularly. Personally I'd like to think that the Moderators as a much smaller group and hopefully a sensible "peer group" have more contact with CA. At least I hope they do.
