Working the graphics - the creation of M2TW Lite
Hello :)
As all of you are certainly aware, the config settings you set in game for your graphical specs only set certain variables. They also ignore other things, such as the ones I noted in this topic of mine in the Citadel.
As such, I'm thinking of creating a Medieval Lite version in a way.
OK, this all sounded quite awkward so far, so I'll just sum it up in a way:
The purpose of this topic/project is to find any settings in any moddable file that can be tweaked to imürove performance beyond the level of what the basic config allows, regardless how detrimental they are for the graphical display.
In the topic I linked to above, I for example figured how to remove ambient effects on the battlemap and remove torches completely from the game.
As long as CA doesn't provide us with a guide or extra settings which we should be changing to get improved performance, I think it is a good idea to search on our own to achieve that.
So please, if you find something during your modding times that can even by a little bit improve performance, post it so others may enjoy the game on their low end machines more! :)
Currently, I'm thinking the following can still be tweaked to go forward on the project. There may be other things which I did not think of, so add to it if you will.
- Changing wall look and building looks to the RTW way which drained much less performance.
- Removing the moving clouds on the battlemap
- Stopping the banners from moving
- Removing the screen shake for gunpowder unit fire
- Stopping objects/creatures on the campaign map from moving/animating when idle
- Stopping the water and tree movement on the campaign map
- Remove the bloom effect from the campaign map
- Remove animation for character orders (attack, perform mission, turning)

While I've been converting RTW figures to m2tw, I've found that the m2tw engine works with 256 x 256 textures just as well as with 1024 x 1024 textures and will work with the same texture for both figure and attchmentsets, there does seem to be an issue with using the same normal texture for both though. The decrease in texture size should help people with lower end graphics cards.

if you could also stop the trees swaying on the campaign map it would be great!
