I just had a thought.
I was (re)reading some of the threads that I'd contributed to and a thought struck me.
Those on the right say, "If you don't agree with me you are a traitor/terrorist/sympathizer/liberal et al...I'm sure you get me drift.
Then I looked at some posts from the 'left' as it were...
If you don't agree with me you are a "fascist, racist, reactionary, bigot", et al.
Who's right? :inquisitive:

Whichever side I'm on. Obviously.

Re: I just had a thought.
Oh, and don't forget centrists: "I agree, but...", "Why can't we all get along?", "You're all such extremists!"

Uh... if you don't mind me asking, since when were we talking about politicians ?

And then there is the people like me who can and will argue for both sides of an argument. So I can insult the lefty commie scum, the bigoty racist righties, and The wussy indecisive centrists.

As we're talking politics, it seemed a bit apt.
-
Re: I just had a thought.
As a moderator... we are always accused of being biased in favour of the right by the left and the left by the right.
So as long as we get complaints from all we know we are doing the right thing. :2thumbsup:
Same school as thought as not being a racist because one hates everyone. :idea2:

It seemed excessively pessimistic - and not a little over-simplifying and hence populistic - to me...
But then again, we don't have a two-party system here.

Re: I just had a thought.
If I'm not in on it, it's categorically wrong.

Re: I just had a thought.
Well, obviously there are nutty people at both ends of the spectrum. Most people are really only a little to the left or right but very few people are truely in the centre, unless they hold no opinions.
You'll find a lot of people have views from both "camps". For example, I believe in public healthcare and a strong military able to project power overseas.
I think what often happens is that when people argue they become entrenched in their position and both parties move further and further from the middle ground. Human nature in any arguement.
That's why you should try to get to know someone before you discuss the big three.

I you mean it the way I think you do you're probably right. Politicians, to gain votes, almost all depend on labeling themselves, their policies and the opponents in a particular way (ie. liberal, libertarian, pro-life). What that ends up meaning is that said politicians often aren't busy actually doing something but busy working out exactly which label appeals to the most voters, or tweaking the definition of labels to better suit them. A lot of the time this is meaningless in content, but effective in manipulating the electorate.

I'm not accusing you of being rightists... So it appears you're not doing things right after all!

Nut jobs like me, who due to extreme views that encompass both the far right and far left wind up in the middle.
Hail the moderates !

Re: I just had a thought.
I guess the discussion has expanded to include or center on the Political world. As to why such polarization happens here in the backroom: I think it's because we're gamers, who have a natural (?) tendancy to strive to solve puzzles/problems and WIN.

I guess so, :laugh4: . Or maybe, more kindly: "strategists' contests".

Re: I just had a thought.
Given that we'd be talking about, ah, armchair stretegists, I don't think there's a difference... :sweatdrop:

Well somebody's got to be right. As an old cowhand told me once:
Anyone who is straddlin' a fence is bound to get a sore crotch.
Be courageous, take a stand for goodnes' sake!

Re: I just had a thought.
American wisdoms are glorious.
However, the only one who can be right is a man with a mustache like old Joe Stalin. Amaïh Plekszy-Gladz!
