What is the early connection between the Romans and the Sarmizegetusa-luptătorii?
If you could explain better at what are you refering?
.
Hilarious! :clown:
.
Almost invented it myself, yet...
Is there some kind of connection between the primal-Roman military wolf-cult and the later Romanian luptătorii?
Mouzafphaerre, Google Sarmizegetusa wolf/wolf-warrior?
well, considering some of dont know what the luptătorii are.....
.
Terrifying. :skull:Quote:

Sarmisegetuza is the capital of the Getai and they carried a wolf-like battle standard.
But I really don't know of any large scale wolf worshiping in Dacia. So I don't see a connection. Maybe it was the fact that the draco standard was latter adopted by the Roman cavalry (quoting wiki here, so the info may be incorrect). Maybe a an EB Getai member can shed more light on your question...
Is luptătorii a Romanian word for soldier? Just asking.
It means "the fighters" but I don't think it's an ancient word... luptător = fighter.Quote:

I do not know the exact genesis for the word yet I doubt it has any real connection to "wolf" in any fashion... The online dictionaries say it comes from the latin "lucta/luctare"...
What i know is: the Dacians get theyr name from a word " daca " , meaning a short curbed sword , specific weapon to geto-dacians only that this word isn't found in texts or inscriptions . In latin texts the weapon specific to geto-dacians is called " sica ". After this being told , I.H.Crisan(historian) says there is a better aproach between the name of dacians and the indo-european word "dhaukos", which means wolf.
Another thing : after Strabon dacians were named "daoi" and a tradition consemnated by Hesychios informes us that daos was the frigian name for wolf.:book:
That is sounding somewhat interesting.
Has there been any studies into why amongst all the indo group's everyone seemed to have wolf cult's and some sort of berserker like fanatic ?
Good question. I see you picked up on why I started this thread?
