Re: Jeff Goldblum as Hannibal Barca
It's precisely Adam Baldwin's 'I'm so great' attitude that would make him a good roman. And actually, from the series "Rome", it's Kevin McKidd (Vorenus) that most resembles the statues of Caesar that we have, not Ciaran Hinds (though as an Irishman of course I'm chuffed to see him get work). So I'd like to see Kevin McKidd as Caesar in a big budget film. Only problem is, he can't of course be in the same film as Arnold Vosloo, as Hannibal was tear-assing around Italy about 100 years before Caesar was born.

Re: Jeff Goldblum as Hannibal Barca
Cilve Owen would be a good Hannibal, i think that Ciarán Hinds did a great job in "ROME" playing Caesar and btw. Ray Stevenson, who played Titus Pullo in "ROME" would the right guy for the role of Vercingetorix or another "Barbarian"

Re: Jeff Goldblum as Hannibal Barca
Hey its funny that Alexander Siddig has just come up because I came across this TV film about Hannibal starring him. Was intending on posting it. Here you go:

Obviously low budget but I've been enjoying it a lot. I'm on video 5 now. I think the actors they've chosen look right to me.

Re: Jeff Goldblum as Hannibal Barca
What do you guys think of 300? I've seen it once and thought it was a good film for the awesome factor. I didn't mind its historical innaccurracy because I don't think that they were trying to pretend that that is exactly what it was like. For me it was a proper 'sit back and enjoy the ride' flick.

Re: Jeff Goldblum as Hannibal Barca
300 has been discussed ad nauseaum. Try doing a search for previous threads on it.

He was a supporting character with only a few lines (compared to say Giovanni Ribisi, Ed Burns, or the guy who played Upham) who got shot shortly into the movie- IMO this is the best and only role, if any, that Vin Diesel should ever have in any decent movie. I figure his "Hannibal" abomination will likely be a rap musical.

Wow, pretty harsh...I admittedly haven't seen the entire movie, but from what I saw I thought Diesel was pretty good in Chronicles of Riddick... anybody else out there with me?!

Put Jim Carey as Gisgo. That will make look Jeff Goldblum very solid as Hannibal :laugh4:
Somehow I imagine Bruce Willis as Hannibal, exept for his limited acting skill, of course.
-
Re: Jeff Goldblum as Hannibal Barca
Then maybe vern Troyer???? Actually Bruce Willis does look a lot like the depictions.

I am with you--same as with Pitch Black, for that matter. I hold out some hope.
-
Re: Jeff Goldblum as Hannibal Barca
Oh yeh Pitch Black is pretty good. But its not really a film I see it as more of a movie if you see what I mean? Vin Diesel's films are very 'sit back and enjoy the ride' like 300. I reckon if the new Hannibal film is good it'll be in the way 300 is good and not, say, Band Of Brothers.
My problem with having Bruce Willis as Hannibal is that he doesn't look at all like a Phonecian to me. Which was my main critera for thinking Goldblum might be able to blag the part.

Re: Jeff Goldblum as Hannibal Barca
Oudysseos- I just re-read what you wrote. I thought you put ALEC Baldwin not Adam Baldwin. Yeh I never thought of him but he could probably be a Roman.

He'd proabably make a good Scipio Africanus.

Re: Jeff Goldblum as Hannibal Barca

It was rather shit. Not wasting another word here.

Re: Jeff Goldblum as Hannibal Barca
Am I the only one who remembers Oded Fehr? C'mon guys he practically screams Hannibal.:idea2:
-
Re: Jeff Goldblum as Hannibal Barca
-
Re: Jeff Goldblum as Hannibal Barca
Yeah, Oded fits quite well actually from an fenotypical point of view, but he doesn`t have a badass face, like Shigawire`s portrait...
He looks like the metrosexual that hasn`t ever gotten into a fight on his entire life.
-
Re: Jeff Goldblum as Hannibal Barca
Farrell also looked like a tiny sad boy in Alexander. >_>
EDIT: I'd love to see Gerard Butler as Hannibal. He has the experience, and looks like the bust Shigawire made. Plus saying "THIS IS CARTHAGE!1" and kicking a Roman envoy into the Carthaginian port would make me go see the movie, a certainty. :D

Re: Jeff Goldblum as Hannibal Barca
OK so I've found the perfect Hannibal, even better than Arnold Vosloo: Ian McShane, recently seen as Swearengen on 'Deadwood'. He'd be the bomb.
