I had another memory. (it's an age thing! :laugh4:)
I used to love reading the William Brown books when I was a nipper. Very, very funny. Much more so than the TV series in the 70s.
I also used to read all the popular kids comics of the period (the 60s) like the Dandy, Beano but espiecially the Eagle and Look and Learn.
I loved Dan Dare and The Trigan Empire. (BTW when Blair has first elected, the Times did a spoof of Dan Dare, called Dan Blair, pilot for the foreseable future...:laugh4:)
Because the telly was virtually non-existant in the 60s we used to go to the 'flicks' a lot.
A real treat was being taken by my dad to see films like Zulu, the Battle of the Bulge, Patton, lust for glory, the Battle of Britain and other pacifist fare. :beam:
The other thing was the sweets. most of them discontinued. Can you imagine getting four chews for a penny these days? In fact can you buy anything for a penny these days?
Ooops, they did away with pennies in 1970, now we have pence. The olden days when you could buy summat for three shillings and six ha'penny. :smash:
In fact can you buy anything for a penny these days?
Back in childhood you could get penny chews, though im going back at least 13 years here, so i would expect it would be at least 2-4 pence for the same chew today...
An anecdote; Mrs Apache MKII is a redhead, as was Mrs. Apache MKI, I like redheads , anyroad when we were having our first row, I called her Violet Elizabeth Bott, (of Botts sauce fame) and the row ended there and then amid gales of laughter.
She even tried to sthcrewm and sthcrewm until she was sthwick, a good sport my missus. :2thumbsup:
Oh.. childhood.. it looks like it was sooo long ago :beam:
Anyway.. don't remember any movies but my favourite TV shows were The A-Team, Knight Rider and Airwolf. God I loved them!
I managed to watch The Adventures of Mark Twain for Halloween. The memories flooded back to me like a Louisiana levee. :loveg:
