Subtitled all the way.....I don´t read them anyway for english language stuff, and on the translation you loose too much (jokes, acting quality, etc).
Translated movies are for 3 year old´s who don´t know how to read yet...other than that keep it away from me.
I remember being on holiday in france and sticking the simpsons on.... *shock* *horror*
They sounded completely different and wrong, i would find it alot of effort to watch something dubbed whereas im happy and a quick enough reader to enjoy subtitles, i actually used to watch english hows with subtitles occasionally.... haven't got a clue why....
When they are subtitled you can learn. And recognize when there is a mistake.
Or for people with trouble focusing their eyes. It happens. Or for people who are on the dim end of legally blind. Or for people with dyslexia.Quote:

Anyway, there's no reason to insult everyone who likes or needs dubbing. Ever since the advent of the holy DVD, you've generally been allowed to pick your poison, so it's not like their preference is messing with you.
Subtitled. It just feels better, closer to the original vision of the film. Plus, un-synced lips look weird.

Depends, with euro movies subtitles because I can understand what's in the melody, japanese movies I tend to watch in english when availlable.
Subtitles... Been used to them since I started reading.
Films in English looks weird without subs. Since the dawn of DVD, I prefer English subs in English speaking films but Norwegian subs in other films.
There is one film which IMO was better dubbed. The little Mermaid from Disney had better singers than the original and the crab was played by an actor from my city.
I think Disney needs to approve the voice overs, when their films are dubbed.
Badly done translation or you have some kind of oral fixation that makes you look at the mouths of people all the time in which case one may indeed notice a bit of that but I never notice it usually.Quote:

Very often i actually found that a good thing, you may say in some movies the director does not want me to understand a word but in that case why let the people talk at all? Maybe it's just my ears but for me some sounds will completely cancel out a lot of voice, happens at work as well, if a customer tells me something while I'm scanning a package that makes a crunching sound, i have to ask them again. I noticed similar problems in many movies, in a dubbed version the voices are clearer, may not be very realistic but then I'd prefer to actually hear what my customers at work say as well, and movies aren't work for me. :dizzy2:Quote:

Well, I only like subtitles for small parts like when a foreign language is spoken for a few sentences and you get subtitles. For the whole movie, no thanks. I'm a slow and careful reader and usually I end up being too slow and miss half of the dialogue, that results in me focusing more on the subtitles which in turn means I miss most of the actual movie as well. :dizzy2:Quote:

Black Hawk Down: saw that dubbed first and no complaints, watched it in english on the DVD and had quite a few problems understanding what people say in some scenes not because of my lacking english skills but because the explosions etc were too loud. Like i said, others may not have that problem or it may be intentional but in the german version it made absolute sense to me to hear what people said, so. :shrug: I bought the Blu ray only in english anyway.

No Country for Old Men: Well, the texan accent was mostly incomprehensible for me, saw it in german the second time and the story and especially the title made a lot more sense to me. Could say that works with subtitles but like I said I usually miss most of them so texan accent = subtitles for me.
Jarhead: saw it in german and the translation was a bit badly done, they translated "when the **** hits the fan" litterally for example which makes little sense in german.
South Park: well, saw all the episeodes in english and then came across a dubbed version in german on MTV and this one was absolutely horrible, but well, MTV, what can you expect? :shrug:
To conclude: Overall I like to have a choice but I never ever activate subtitles. I like to watch movies in english or german, other languages I can only hope are dubbed but subtitles usually ruin a movie for me, especially when they get into the actual picture but also because I will miss most of the movie and feel a bit stressed trying to read faster.
May voice-overs burn in hell for all eternity.
The only movie I've enjoyed it, is the english version of Free Jimmy. But that's because it's a norwegian movie, and I wanted to hear how they did it in english, particularly how "Hold Brillan"/"Hold Ma Specs" appeared in english... That, and I'm a fanboy.
In every other case, do it with subtitles. An additional bonus of that, is that I can pay more attention to what's happening around me, like a conversation(ie, I can turn the volume down), and still follow the movie with ease.
EDIT: Oh, that's not really true. I once was in Germany on a holiday and watched a german-speaking version of Rambo first blood, that was a freakin' blast! And I don't understand a word of kraut...
Subtitled films for the win. Quite a few films out there that Hollywood borrows; and to be honest they are so much better in their original form. For example:
Internal Affairs, Internal Affairs II - Brilliant films. The Departed is an average knock off.
Nine Queens - Deadpan comedy, excellent characters and a plot that works like clockwork. Hollywood version? Criminal, yawn.
City on Fire (1987) - Gritty, and quality film. Hollywood saw fit to borrow; several scenes and major plot elements are used in Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs.
I don’t like hearing the written mistakes, so I just go for the entertainment, like a dog and pony show.
Subtitled. That way, my roommate can watch them too (she's deaf).

For me it's a pro when there are different languages in a movie (French speaking French, Americans speaking English, Germans speaking German) and it all being properly subtitled.
Depends Oaty. If the story plays in say America I'ld expect Jackie Chan to speak English, until he meets a Chinese person who talks the same kind of Chinese like he does (regardless of whether that person also understands English).
