Re: HAIL New Members! (Introductions)
Hello. Eh... Yes. I'm new here. Bought the game yesterday and gave it a whirl. Rather fun. Will definitely spend what little spare time I have on it. Downloaded that beginnersguidethingie frogbeastegg wrote. 70 pages, dash me. Seems very useful, good show, much obliged and all that.
Oh, hi Havard, nice to see a fellow Languishista. ~:)
Mmmyes, that was all I had to say for now.

I'm frogbeastegg and ... er, well I am not new :tongueg:
I only just got around to checking this thread and I noticed that my name crops up a few times. Thank you to everyone who commented on my work; it's always good to hear the guides are doing their jobs.
San_Martin_de_Argentina, just keep working at your own pace. You chose to tackle a very large, difficult job and I rather admire that ~:)

Re: HAIL New Members! (Introductions)
Hi,
I've been lurking here for a few years and decided to sign up properly. I've been very grateful for all the tips and tactics I've gleaned from the postings on this site.
I started out on STW, then moved on to MTW and now RTW. I loved all of them but RTW is frankly a work of art, and I play it obsessively.

Hello,
I have decided to post. Lurked awhile. Played STW/MI, MTW/VI, and now you can find me online playing Rome. Thanks for all the information the contributors to this site have shared so generously.
regards
Arthur
Mod Note: Greetings TenjoArthurWellsley, welcome to the Org ~ Glad you've joined the growing ranks of "recovered lurkers anonymous", and spoken up ~:) -Kukri

Hello all,
I was browsing to find a solution to why R:TW crashes after 3 seconds in the imperial campaign, while the introduction campaign works fine. So far, I haven't found a solution, but I have found this forum.
Mod Note: Glad you've found us Shabbaman; welcome ~. The guys in the Apothecary can help you find that solution, I'm sure. - Kukri

I just joined this forum. This one is absolutely better than official forum.
Thanks for a lot of information.

Re: HAIL New Members! (Introductions)
Hi all, I just had the demi for MTW and really enjoyed it but never got around to buying because I was too busy with college and politics (very active in Dem party...western civilization has had worse losses than the last election). Anyways, when I was poking aroudn teh TW main site I noticed they have a Hellenic TW version coming out!! Being a history and classics double major at UCSB I couldn't help but be excited. Where can I learn more about this game? When is it coming out, etc? Thanks!
Mod Note: Greetings fellow Californian UCSBclassics ~. Midnight Piper answered your N:TW query below. Guys with double-majors have time for games, LoL? Your academic background wll stand you in good stead with our membership. - Kukri

Re: HAIL New Members! (Introductions)
There is a Hellenic Mod, I think available in the downloads section - not an official product. For an official product you can get Rome:Total War (already in stores) which includes a range of ancient-world civs for your enjoyment (change history, lead Greece in its conquest of Rome). Haven't tried it myself - still enjoying M:TW too much.

Re: HAIL New Members! (Introductions)
*waves*
Been lurking for a while as well after picking M:TW off the shelf 'just to try it out' some time ago. Quickly found it to be the most engaging strategy game I've yet had the pleasure of playing.
Finally got to pick up R:TW the other day (been having a financial crisis for some time so i didnt get it at launch).
Mod Note: Howdy Mazoch, welcome to the Org ~. So all you need is a copy of Shogun:TotalWar to round out your collection. -Kukri

Re: HAIL New Members! (Introductions)
Hi all,
I just decided to buy the game, did it online so I won't get it til Monday. I'll try out the demo until then. I am a little concerned about the MP issues, as I am hoping to get a friend of mine interested so we can play it online. We get together occasionally for some Napoleonic miniature wargames. Some American civil war as well, but mostly Napoleonic. I am interested in this game....atleast until they come out with Napoleon: Total War. ~:)
Mod Note: Welcom "Black Bob" Crauford (can't wait to hear the background on that username:) ) ~ We'll try to keep you entertained/occupied until R:TW arrives at your door. -Kukri

Re: HAIL New Members! (Introductions)
HI GUYS! ummm I have a question I signed up but I can only post in the NEW MEMEBERS section is there a reason I can't post anywhere else? do I have to be unlocked or something?

Re: HAIL New Members! (Introductions)
These forums use membership levels (junior member, member, senior member, assistant moderator, moderator) with fewer restrictions as you progress. I can't remember the list of forums available to JMs, but generally it's the 'general discussion' forum for each game.
Post count doesn't matter for membership level progression, what matters is how you behave and the quality/content of your posts. As you prove the worth of your posts - and give the mods evidence that you're not a salesbot or troll - they'll manually 'upgrade' your membership level, giving you fewer posting restrictions, editing capabilities, and more message storage space.

Re: HAIL New Members! (Introductions)
Thanks for the warm welcome. This is a great site, lots of nice information.
As you probably guessed my username is from my favorite General of the British army in the Napoleonic wars. I've enjoyed countless hours of reading about the battles in the Penninsular campaign and Robert Craufurd aka "the Iron Warrior" and "Black Bob" was quite a colorful character. I also enjoy reading about his 95th rifles and Johnny Kincaid. He was so unpredictable, and Wellington used to send him "suggestions" instead of orders lol. He would drive Wellington nuts because he would tell him that he would do one thing, then change his mind and do something totally different. Then there is the famous 41 mile (I believe that is correct) march he made with his light division in 24 hours to try to reach the battlefield at Talavera. They almost made it, but I mean ...wow. Anyway, Ill stop rambling about Napoleonics for now ~;)
I've been playing the demo and find it to be much of what you are all saying. The AI is extremely easy and flawed. If all the Generals are like this, which it sounds like they are, then another flaw. Sounds like every General that is AI controlled is as crazy as Marshal Ney or something. :charge: One thing I kind of liked that I've seen others do not, is the mass... or formations breaking up. Units seemed to become disordered, which made sense to me. And when the battle started to get fierce, it was chaotic and a "mass" instead of all units keeping formations. I kinda liked that. Well, just my first impressions from the demo, itching to get the real thing in a couple days!!

Re: HAIL New Members! (Introductions)
Welcome all. I think its a bug in the game that makes the allied generals crazy.

Welcome back Aurelius. There are several versions of that username in our membership database. Do you remember your previous username and/or email? If you will PM me with those details, we may be able to resurrect your old account.

Re: HAIL New Members! (Introductions)
Thanks very much, KukriKhan. I appreciate your offer, but I'm just as happy to get rid of the infernal 1 after my name, and post counts don't matter a whit to me.
If I could possibly beg my way into the tavern, it would be lovely. I'm rather parched after my time in the wilderness.
Again, thanks for your attention. Total War fans the world over are coated in a light batter of fanatacism... they must eat up a lot of your time. My billable hours somewhere else are getting into the millions.
Mod Note: OK then. Tavern access and an edit button all come with advancement to Member, which should occur soon. - Kukri

Re: HAIL New Members! (Introductions)
Terribly sorry to double post, but I'm suffering from a distinct lack of ability to edit posts. Is my signature an allowable size? I've seen a few 1968 Galaxie 500 size ego massages around, but I'd hate to step on someone's toes.
We must set a good example and all.
Mod Note: We like them 500 x 150 max; you are 400x150, so: fine. Oh...and that Galaxie 500? First car I ever wrecked. - Kukri

Re: HAIL New Members! (Introductions)
This Aurelius is obviously an imposter, since I know how much the real Aurelius loves the '1' after his name. In fact, he never shuts up about it. :tongue2:
Seriously, i can vouch this aurelius is aurelius1 from .com. Insufferably nice and witty ~

Re: HAIL New Members! (Introductions)
Hi! Nice site! ~
I've been playing computer games since the days of greasy little dwarves vanishing in puffs of smoke. In the past couple of years it's been a mixture of strategy, rpg, and fps games. ATM I'm playing HL2, RTW, and WoW (at least I will, as soon as it arrives).
RTW is my first experience with the Total War series, and I find it very addictive. I've finished my first Imperial campaign as the Scipiones, and am trying out the Seleucids now.
Mod Note: Hi T.N.T.Toulouse, welcome to the Org ~ Some of the best years of my life were spent in Ann Arbor; are you teaching or 'towning' there? Either way, glad to have a broad-based gamer aboard. - Kukri

Re: HAIL New Members! (Introductions)
Hi, i found this site about 2 month ago when looking for info about RTW.
I'm an old MTW player, it's a pity i didn't know of this place earlier. Lots of useful info about MTW...well better late than never.
My name is Thomas, i'm from Sweden and last time i counted i was 29 years old. That was way back in 1992! ~:)
EDIT: It just caught my eye that it says: "Member" below my name. Nice! So i'll take the opportunity to celebrate that by using the edit function. ~D

Re: HAIL New Members! (Introductions)
By the way......
How many posts do i need before i become a full member.
Hi Barbarian King, welcome to the Org ~ Another hundred or so ought to do it :) or: a couple of game mods, or a dozen tech-help posts....we advance to Member based on civility, continued interest, and overall contribution to the community. Just keep posting - you've been noticed. Cheers! - Kukri
