For me, religious questions are essentially factual ones - there either is or is not a god (or whatever). Whether there being a god is a nice idea, whether it makes you feel a certain way, whether it is a good or bad thing etc is all ultimately irrelevant. Much as I might be attracted to a faith in certain circumstances, I find I can no more believe it than I can believe sticking my hand into the fire is not going to hurt me; or believe that there is a pink dragon in my garage. I could - and would - fake belief to save my life or someone else's but I could not actually believe.
