Re: Paradox has destroyed Creative Assembly... for me.
Hey thanks for the comments everyone. I may try RTW with the mods, but when I have time again because in the meanwhile I played a few ganes of Doomsday! recently (Normal/Aggressive).
USSR: Wow ! incredible power. Lacking in "high skill" tech teams but by 1941, after Bessarabia and claiming the Baltics I had 551 IC, which translated to this by 1946 (or even earlier IIRC):
- 600 Infantry divisions + 12 HQ (50 Corps),
- 48 Mountain Divisions (16 Mountain Divisions)
- 33 Armored Divisions + 66 Motorised Divisions (33 Armored Corps)
- 12 Paratroop Divisions (4 Airborne Regiments)
- 24 Marine Divisons (8 Marine Corps)
- 72 Interceptor Squadrons (18 Interceptor Wings)
- 40 CAS Squadrons (10 CAS Wings)
- 12 Strategic Bomber Squadrons (3 Strategic Bombardment Wings)
- 12 Transport Squadrons (3 Transport Wings)
- 72 Transport Flotillas
- 900 Convoys
- 150 Convoy Escorts
Total IC in 1946 was about 720.
I think that was it. The game progressed (roughly) as follows:
- Winter War: Finland crushed then surrender according to initial demands.
- Claim bessarabia, repeatedly claim Baltics through diplomacy till finally you get them by 1941.
- Partition of Poland: Molotov-Ribbentrop.
- Invasion of Persia, puppet state installed.
- Germany fails to launch Barbarossa by August 1941.
- USSR declares war on Germany, Finland, Romania, Hungary, Italy, Turkey, Sweden, Slovakia, Bulgaria, in September 1941.
- Germany controls everything from Norway to the English Channel, to the Pyrennes.
- Air supremacy campaign launched, roughly 40 red Air Force Interceptor divisons go into action against approximately 75 combined Air divisions of the Luftwaffe.
- Apparently most of the Luftwaffe interceptors are redeployed to the East, having already won the Battle of Britain (yeah great news with my pathetic air doctrines!).
- Finland, Sweden, Norway (German occupied) Annexed, USSR marches into Denmark through the Skaggerat (or whetever it's called).
- Denmark annexed.
- December 1941 Turkey annexed and released as puppet.
- The air battle lasts till February 1942, USSR air force finally decimates the Luftwaffe reducing it to about a dozen wings.
- February 1942, 40 CAS support wings go into action against the Whermacht which is heavily dug in with about 200 divisions.
- April 1942 Scandinavia puppet released. Now the tech gets MUCH better!
- The air assault continues till May 1942. Reducing about 25% of the Wehrmacht to 70% org.
- June 1942 full scale ground assualt against Germany on 3 fronts (Turkey, Poland, Denmark).
- July 1942 Allies declare wwar on USSR (wonderful, more kills !!!)
- Cutting a long story short... April 1943 Germany surrenders being absolutely crushed, Romaina & Bulgaria have switched sides. A few months later ALL (except Netherlands, Belgium, France) of Europe is released (through events) as puppets. Another AWESOME tech country ..DDR !!! DDR also produces something like a 60+ Infantry divisions per year.
- USSR controls everything from Gibraltar to Cape town. Arab Federation, i.e all of Arabia peninsula from Turkey to Suez released as puppet (not bad techs either), and all assorted African nations released. FREEDOM FOR AFRICA !!! ... well sort of ;)
- I quit the game somewhere in 1946.
What a great game, lasted long though. I would have liked to continue but my PC was beginning to freeze up at the end of each game day... !!??!!
Watched a cool video from IL2, North Africa campaign. ABout the Italian Stukas. AWESOME VIDEO! check it out:

Re: Paradox has destroyed Creative Assembly... for me.
You crazy Russian powermonger! :stare:
I've never dared play USSR myself. Faaaar too large for my tastes. Besides, it's much more fun fighting them than being them! Same for Great Britain; too many ships. :dizzy2:
Anyway, have any of you guys been visiting HOI2 AARs over at Paradox lately? I'm enamoured by some of these people's accomplishments. You can find Hungarian-led European alliance (the Nazis banished to Moscow!!!) and Brazilians trying to save the world against an uber Deutschland, not to mention a constant stream of German and (evil, usually) USA AARs...
We should really be more active in our storytelling for the Total War games over here. Of course, I'm too lazy to do it myself :P
Re: Paradox has destroyed Creative Assembly... for me.
Well I usually like playing USA, GER, JAP, NATCHI, ITALY, UK. Guess I like playing them all !!! It's what makes it fun for me because the replayability of this game is ridiculously amazing.
I enjoy playing against the SOV, love those massiove encirclements in Southern Russia. It's also more fun to play against them for someone like me who's very much into out teching the enemy. I prefer quality and well organised nations. Having said that I LOVED the USSR, it was amazing. I did some encirlements in Poland destroying about 150+ GER divisions, completely annihilated. Then the game was over for GER. These encirclements were different that when playing GER since they were done mostly with INF.
Love those AAR's too. Did you watch the video posted above btw ? It's UBAH !!!
I like playing GER the most I think so many awesome leaders, excellent tech teams and non stop action. I go to some length in planning, the following is a paste of an excel file which is a plan for the Luftwaffe, complete with leader assignments, name of unit, function projected deployment year etc. (incomplete, hope it's understandable)

Re: Paradox has destroyed Creative Assembly... for me.
Heh, Sinan, your AAR made me want to fire up a new campaign myself ~:)
One feature of the game that's rarely spoken of which I really like is the ability to swap sides at any time during a campaign. So if you start to win with one side, or if the other side is not behaving as you think a sensible commander would, you can take control of the enemy for a few weeks and do what needs to be done. Alternatively, when you get close to a winning position with one country, you can swap to the other country to see if you can turn the tables. And so on.

It's called the Throne Room ~:), it's quite active at the moment you know...
And don't worry, you won't have to do anything other than read and maybe do an occasional search :2thumbsup:
Sorry for hijacking the thread guys !
