I will stick with dividing by 25.
I am just ending this guide.
Will try to give you an hipotetical army for Pontus based on the Macedonian design, and what I read from Appian and the Live of Sulla.

Argyraspides in the Daphne procession are Thoroktai or phalanx?
Ok I love and hate Seleucid armies. They have a lot of variety, but they are too big. Here is the conversion of the Daphne procession. Supposedly the Seleucids were in decay, but the army doesnt fits well in a 20 stack full army.
The Daphne procession, 165 BC
Phalanx
15,000 Macedonians
5,000 Argyraspides
Semi-heavy infantry
5,000 'Roman style'
3,000 Thracians
5,000 Mysians(?)
5,000 Galatians
Light infantry
3,000 Cilicians
5,000 Mysian (archers?)
Heavy cavalry
1,500 cataphracts
1,000 Nisaeans
2,000 Royal Guard
with EB units
1 General
Cavalry
1 unit of Hellenikoi kataphraktoi
1 unit of Mad Asabara (for the Niseans)
Infantry
5 units of phalanx
3 units of Argyraspides thorakitai
2 units of Thorakitai/Thureophoroi
2 units of Thraikioi peltastai
2 units of Galatian mercenaries
3 unit of Pantodapoi (for the Cilicians and Mysians)
1 units of archers or slingers (for the Mysian light infantry)
Hey Ed! Get on MSN so I can send you what I wrote for the Seleukids! :furious3:
Why not upload it to some place? If you want I'll do it for you.
Its not finished yet. Just want to see if someone can tell me if that is right.
I still want to do the Gauls and the Sweboz, before threwing it up for the public, but thanks anyway.
For barbarians I would just use infantry and missle, probably discard cavalry (if I lose, I'll do it historicaly)
Barbarians had cavalry.
I know (shame on me).....
I'd just like to have big barbarian battles in campaign with only infintry
I understand. Like Gladiator ;)
Finnaly someone who understands! the game isnt about conquoring, its about the battles.
so selfish...
mix sword infintry with sprear so it'll look better as a battle and always have skirmishers
What about hispanic armies? :beam:Quote:

Indeed, not to mention that Iberian armies vary widely between regions. A celtiberian army would be pretty easy to make, a Lusitanian one, not so much.
Just to say factions I have completed.
* Romans (Camillian, Polybian, Marian, Imperian)
* Carthage (Africa, Hispania, Italy)
* Makedonia (Alexandrian, Antigonid)
* Epeiros (Pyrrhic Invasion model)
* Ptolemaios (Raphia model)
* Seleukids (Antiochus III Megas armies, Daphne Procesion)
* Parthia (Carrhae model)
* Koinon Hellenon (Spartan army)
Can be done with facts, logic and imagination
* Pontus (using the facts of all the Mithridatic Wars)
* Hayasdan (I found the facts, but I hate the numbers)
* Gauls (Telamon)
* Sweboz (Ariovistus, Arminius, Allemani)
Help me plz :sweatdrop:
* Baktria
* Lusitanian
* Casse
* Saka, Sarmatia (want to use Carrhae as base)
Can be done with facts, logic and imagination
* Sweboz (Ariovistus, Arminius, Allemani)
Marbod of the Markomanni (Maroboduus) had about 70000 infantry + 4000 cavalry in 6 A.D.
thats a ratio of 18,5:1
or about 20:1 (Caesar, Bell. Gall. 4, 1)
I know, but couldnt resist.
Here is an example of what I am going to do with Pontus, Hayasdan, and the Barbarian factions.
As they neared each other, the forces of Archelaus just from Thermopylae advanced into Phocis, consisting of Thracian, Pontic, Scythian, Cappadocian, Bithynian, Galatian, and Phrygian troops, and others from Mithridates' newly acquired territory, in all 120,000 men. Each nationality had its own general, but Archelaus had supreme command over all.
This army also had 90 chariots.
with EB units
1 General
1 unit of Scythed chariots
1 unit of Katpuka Asabara (or other native cavalry)
1 unit of Lavotuxtri (or other native cavalry)
1 unit of Chalkaspidai
7 units of Pantodapoi Phalangitai
2 units of Pantodapoi
2 units of Doryphoroi Pontikoi
2 units of Kluddolon (or other Galatian mercenaries)
1 unit of Thraikoi Peltastai
1 unit of Scythian archers
* A lot of soldiers, but most of them are lame, except for some elite units. Reminds me a lot of the Persian armies were they were a lot of tribal levies and some elite.
p.s. I edit to say some things. I think Pontus will get a lot of new units in other versions of EB to come. This is just before the reform that Mithridates had of his army. And I am not sure if there are 130 or 90 chariots, but 1 unit is fine.
For the Saka and Sarmatians just take the Parthians and put more HA in and less cataphract/other noble cavalry. Unless you conquor a lot of the souther/greek/costal towns and you become richer, so add more heavy cavalry and maybe greek infantry. For Baktria probably take the Seleucids but switch in indian and other locals for their seleucid equals. Also more cavlary, iirc they fielded large companies of them. larger then most others anyway. No idea for the other 2.Quote:

Hey, great job Eduorius. I've always wanted something like this, and well, here it is! Thanks!
There are some interesting variations that could be done with the Camillian, Polybian formations if you're interested in cutting down the number of units to make it a half stack. Makes for more interesting game as the Romans as you're usually outnumbered with this configuration, better challenge. It's basically the same as you have it, just cut in half pretty much. Based on Quintus' Ultimate Guide to playing as the Romans in RTR. I'll list it here as an alternative to those who are interested.
1 General
1 unit of velites
1 unit of Hastati
1 units of Principes
1 unit of Triarii (edited to be half the size)
4 units of mercenary infantry, one of which should be a skirmisher unit
1 unit of mercenary cavalry or another General acting as tribune
The new change of numbers in .81 can change some factions
Shouldn't be too much trouble though.
Did carthage ever keep a standing army of mercs? Or at least on retainer so that they could be called to if needed? Do you have anything to base the armies off besides what they fielded for their wars with Rome?
An example of a standing army of mercs are the ones that operated around Hispania around the Second Punic War. Also they get reinforcements from Carthage after Cannae. But yeah they were mercenaries so they went to their homes when their contract was over.Quote:

At this time Carthage was at war with Rome and not with Syracuse or other cities of Magna Graecia like Massalia. For the First Punic War (so I suppose that against Syracuse) the armies where mostly Africans, but I dont have the numbers to make an army.
