I think I'm undefeated so far in 2012. Looking to be a good year!
EDIT: Oh wait, I lost Leaving Limbo. But still!
EDIT2: And the Batman game on TWC, but I was a serial killer against 7(?) town roleblockers and a turncoat...

lol again? XD
Yeah sure, a game with no night kills has a town power role which keeps everyone alive: so much sense XD
Anyway the concept wasn't unbalanced imo, simply most townies could believe that names in the write-up gave away mafia by magic and for some time the red names were confusing, but that was their role: when it turned to 50/50, more or less, we realized that there could be mafia among the sick, but again only few did :P
This victory is really Diana's. She pretty much carried the team on her back.
Funny how that works....whenever I am in the "brilliant camp", my team loses really badly. When I act "Here's Johnny-ish", I pull off some of the most ridiculous stuff.(I don't think anyone is going to match my double-joker victory, I still can't believe they revived and lynched me again in that game):laugh4:
Good job to the darkling team...you earned this win.
Thanks guys, I really appreciate the comments. Thanks Zack. Sorry about the mind games, but I really must admit, this was one of my favorite games I've played so far. I really did enjoy being a puppet master ( shocked at times when it turned out like I was planning it to). I enjoy a good psychological challenge, trying to figure out the minds of others. Lots of fun!! :2thumbsup:
Congrats to the mafia team. Well played.
@ ATPG - good game. I had no clue what was happening.
We probably should have avoided the visits.
Well, I take that as something I have to work on, then. My guess was that, after Visor got possessed the first time, after Lazy and others acted very, very strangely, after folks like Double A were forced to visit Landlubber, people would sense that the power the mafia held was one of possession/coercion.
When the folks with sores never died from them, in fact eventually being told outright that their condition strangely seemed not to be worsening, it was my hope that the special circumstances of the game had left enough clues behind for some folks to catch onto what was happening.
The visits generally yielded no useful information, however if everyone visited someone, it would be more difficult for the mafia team to deduce who was a townie power role using the pain "tags".Quote:
We probably should have avoided the visits.
If only townie power roles visited people, then it would be easier for the mafia to deduce that they should use lust against them, or possess them and make them look suspicious, or kill them when they gained such a power. It wasn't much for solving the game but it did have a purpose.
I think the "possessed" votes/post was generally understood. The conditions were gradually worsening for sometime (atleast mine), till it stopped where it was. So the mechanic of it was hard to deduce. Generally thought that i might die of it or get converted to some sort till the condition stopped worsening. It was too late for me at that point and kinda gave up trying to deduce :shame:
The visits confused the "afflictions" mechanic as we were getting infected in pairs.
Don't think that a non murdering mafia is weak when they have those powers that they have. Confusion and misdirection are one of the most powerful abilities in a game. ANd this certainly evened the scales for the mafia.
I enjoyed the setting. I liked the mechanics as well, and I believe the game was balanced. Edse, Monty both dug their own graves, and so did Diana but I forget to fill it. Also the lack of reveals helped the mafia too in my opinion.
Adding onto what I have said and others, the powers of confusion and misdirection and the feeling of the game and the writing may have overwhelmed some players/people, causing them to vote randomly as they couldn't interpret certain things. Certainly I ended up just ignoring the red names and on the final day I focused on text analysis, and caught Diana. But before that I just threw my hands in the air. I didn't have time to review things.
Without taking anything away from the deserved mafia victory, the visits did more harm to town than good (If their only real purpose was to disguise town power roles from the mafia) The fact that I'm still getting my head round the mechanics maybe suggests it was slightly too complex but the caveat to that is that I'm the guy you chuck at a ruleset if you want to see how 'idiot-proof' it is :shame:
BTW one question: I visited every night and by looking at the list of darklings I visited edse and diana, were my results uneventful (ie: no pain, nor possession) because I was the pastor?
That I agree, ok they are in human guise, but some lore in the lynch write-up would be necessary, afterall they did knew when town power roles died...
Actually no we didn't "know" when your power roles died. We had to try and figure that out as well along with town. We assumed that a pastor might be a power role, but what actual power we didn't know. And in our mafia group we had a "cover role" of a doctor (edse). Normally that would be a town power role, so we (or at least I) thought that the "roles" may not really mean anything. The only real power role that was exposed was the mason role with White_eyes, but we had to figure out who could be the partner/lover/SK ourselves along with the town.
Because the demons control others through dark magic, and do not have to be physically present to afflict someone, you wouldn't see anything if you visited a Darkling.
Also, their magic didn't work by attacking those folks who visited them; their magic worked by targeting someone on purpose. So visiting them wouldn't have caused you pain/afflictions.
The only real powers folks had to deduce who was guilty was the witch and the pastor roles; if you focused your prayer/magic on someone and nobody reported any additional painful sores, nobody tried to kill anyone, nobody acted like they were possessed, and nobody's actions were redirected, then you may have stopped a Darkling's actions.
I figured it would happen eventually when there were two roles that could stop the Darkling's curses, but talk about unlucky. The three anti-curse power roles combined to stop exactly ONE action all game... that was Arjos protecting DaveShack on the night he killed Diamondeye. Otherwise Diana would have been able to redirect his action a night sooner.
No sooner did Arjos become really successful, did town lynch his innocent butt. :laugh4:
Man. I’m offline for the weekend and come back to this?!
In retrospect I should have just voted for Diana and gotten the day over earlier, but I wasn’t at all confident in that vote and wanted to keep the options open with Double A.
The handicap of the town is that they have a lack of perfect information and are generally reluctant to take decisive action. Remember always that the mafia know with a great deal of precision all possible avenues of victory and will generally not hesitate to decide the game in their favor however way possible, while trying to look like a townie who is not in the know.
What I try to do when I'm townie is suspend my doubt in myself and act as if I know what needs to be done. Not that I am so silly as to think everything I do is right, although sometimes I do get overconfident, but think of it this way: if your move is a losing one, it doesn't matter whether you make it now or later. If the move you're making is a winning one, DO IT NOW so you don't forget or lose the opportunity.
In general, reluctance does not help you win. It is perhaps the most admirable thing about faith, it is very strong when it comes to being decisive. If you must act, having faith that you're right is better than debating it with yourself or others. "Just do it" wins in certain situations whereas "I'd better not end the round early" actually lost this game outright, in a winning position.
Remember the ending round of this game, where the winning vote got unvoted and then never got replaced. Do not hesitate, show no mercy. You can usually change your vote later if you really think you should. Otherwise, closing one's eyes and pulling the trigger sometimes wins in situations where you absolutely have to pull the trigger. Otherwise someone else may be quicker on the draw...
No, Pizza: for a townie, certainty in doubt. I believe we shall see the truth of this rather soon...
Turns out I was right to be skeptical about the red names being cleared. But not skeptical enough to use the revenge kill on one of them. And I almost got myself lynched by forgetting to put my name on the list, will have to remember that for the future. At least we called the "posession vote" thing right.
In retrospect, Diana wasn't trying hard enough to make cases to be a townie, but hindsight is usually like that.
So the darklings could say "use A's ability against B"? That's a pretty cool mechanic.
I'll second that. I had a mafia kill himself via a bus driver.
:laugh4::laugh4::laugh4: I was planning that on DaveShack, but you guys lynched him 1st.
And why did you guys lynch DaveShack? Double A voted him because he was the other uninfected but Visorslash and atheotes just voted without reasoning. I believed that he might have told you that he was used for the kills and wanted to get lynched.
