Rook to A5
Here!
Tournament Pairings.
Unable to establish single elimination bracketing without a ridiculous number of byes. Therefore, we will proceed in pseudo World Cup format. All assignments were made using random number sequences generated by random.org.
4 Groups will be established and players will play two games against each member of their group. Players will decide the format of their match (web, pbem, pbchat, ftf) between themselves. Both players will report the results of their games to the thread. Players earn 2 points for a win, and 1 point for a draw. The highest two point scorers from each group will then play a "1st to achieve 2 wins" to determine the group winner. The high score takes white in the first game, then players alternate until a conclusion is reached.
The Group A winner will face the Group C winner in a semi-final "1st to achieve 2 wins" match. Initial color determined by coin flip or other mutually acceptable manner. Again both players report results.
The Group B winner will face the Group D winner in a semi-final "1st to achieve 2 wins" match. Rest as for A v C.
The Final will be a "1st to achieve 2 wins" match between the winners of the semi-final round. Finals games will be played in the thread with players submitting moves alternately. The losers of the semi-final rounds can play a "Bronze" match or just skip it and head to the pub at their discretion.
Group Play:
You will have one week to conclude your 2 games with your 1st group opponent (one as each color). Subsequent pairings must complete in 4 days (we'll have our systems down by then and can speed up).
Within each group, the order of play will be as follows:
1st pairing: N1 v N4, N2 v N5, N3 v N6.
2nd pairing: N1 v N5, N2 v N6, N3 v N4.
3rd pairing: N1 v N6, N2 v N3, N4 v N5.
4th pairing: N1 v N2, N3 v N5, N4 v N6.
5th pairing: N1 v N3, N2 v N4, N5 v N6.
Group A:
A1 = Tevashszat
A2 = Motep
A3 = w&f
A4 = Horus
A5 = Xiahou
A6 = Ethelred
Group B:
B1 = Martok
B2 = Caius

B4 = Rhy'
B5 = Wasp
B6 = Asen
Group C:

Group D:

Play begins by 0001 GMT 22 October 2008; 1st pairings to be completed no later than 7 days after that time. Good Luck!
Ok, I got it.
im a little confused...so am i facing Quintus J.C first? or have i got the wrong idea :dizzy2:
edit: some people need special group, caius manages with out :laugh4:
Just a minor objection... we have only one week for 10 games. That's slightly insuffcient time(RLife and time difference ).
So...I'm play against Horus right? If thats so, do you have any preferences for any style, Horus?
Play has begun!
Sir Pemberton Cheesewagon, the Knight of White has moved forward! CHAAARGE!
WH hasn't been online since the 3rd, Motep the 16th and Ethelred the 17th.
Also, chess.com works fairly well.
:yes:
This seems like a good site- it supports both offline (taking turns) and online (live) play.

Ichi and I are in the middle of a real bloodbath for our first game. I think he probably has it won though.
EDIT: I resigned, Ichi wins.
Ichi goes 2-0 against me.
Obviously, group B is the group of death! And I'll have to face Caius first, too!
Dropped khaan a PM. Lets see when we can get started.
So we got 1 week for the 1st pairings to finish and then 4 days for each subsequent pairing, right?
It's been ages since I played chess, but if you need a replacement for WH, Motep or Ethelred...
Can people post their games here so we can have a gander? There should be some way of saving the games, either by Select All and Copy, or by saving to pgn (Portable Game Notation) format.
:sigh: I will be absent until Sunday and I doubt I'll cope with the subsequent pairs of 4 days. I do not want to slower this brilliant tournament anymore and if there are willing to take my place they are welcomed. If not... I can have some time to reflect on this. But I doubt I'll cope with the deadlines. :embarassed:
Edited: However, this does not mean I'll decline occasional meetings on the chess battlefield with enthusiasts. :bow:
I should be playing against Rhy', not Wasp, can someone correct this?
I finally thought I had the schedule figured out!
Original Post is now location for pairings & results.
Ichigo, congrats on your bloody victories over Arach.
