I can see Vin Diesel pull it off. Anxious to see what he comes up with.
But McKidd looks too celtic to play Caesar. He only gets away with it in Rome because his roots are in northern Italy. Thats my opinion.

I'm not sure. He looks a little past it to play Hannibal.
I dunno... maybe with a bit of rough facial hair, a scar added, and if he buffed up a bit for the role. I could see it. He certainly has the intelligent air, and he is a good actor.
Im still holding out hope that Vin Diesel will do a good job. He could pass for a Phoenician, and you must admit he has one of the coolest voices you've ever heard. As for the acting - he may not be outstanding but he isnt bad. Also, the film is supposed to be scripted in Punic/latin etc - I find this can mask bad or mediocre acting very effectively. A line that might sound cheesy in English will look fine in subtitles.

Nonetheless he has talent and gravitas to spare. Maybe Old Hannibal, in Bithnyia?
I didn't think of Kevin McKidd as Celtic looking- and he does bear a striking remblance to Caesar's portrait busts.

Just kinda hold your thumb over Joaquin's hair and you'll see what I mean.
YAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!! There is hope for a good film when there was none. If it is in the original languages then that is gonna go a long way toward making me happy :beam:
And yeh about Goldblum. He's never played that type of character before so it is hard to imagine him being a soldier but you never know if the acting and costume departments were good it might work. I suppose thats my problem with Vin Diesel. I see him in shit films so I assume it'll be shit. If it is in punic and latin though wow that really is good.
Who says Caesar was dark haired? I always thought he was fair-haired (not Norwegian blond mind you).
Ditto. :beatnik2:
There was already a perfect Ceasar! Rex Harrison!
I pictured Caesar with very thin blackish brown hair. about 5'8 maybe. I pictured hannibal as a tall scruffy blackhaired man with stubble.
As far as I know (probably not very far) there's a reference in Plutarch to his 'soft, white skin' and in Cicero to his thin hair, but that's about it for physical description. Probably his statues were painted- does anyone know if there has been any bits of paint found on one of his early statues that might indicate hair or eye colour?
This is so OT.
